Jayson Gainza wants to beat Willie

JAYSON Gainza seems to be on the right path more than some of his colleagues in Pinoy Big Brother.

Now, he has three shows on ABS-CBN, the third of which he gets top billing. While he simply supports his co-hosts on Trip na Trip, and co-stars in I Love Betty La Fea, he is billed ahead of John Prats and Zanjoe Marudo in the newest ABS-CBN show, a komediserye called “Parekoy” which will start airing on January 5, after Wowowee.

Under the direction of Randy Santiago and Quark Henares, Parekoy is described by its drumbeaters as “bonding time for friends and family every afternoon.”

Jayson thinks he’s just lucky to get the breaks. He knows that he is not the matinee idol type, so he treks Willie Revillame’s way. “Idol ko talaga si Willie,” says the 29-year-old comedian.

But he’s not in a hurry, and what’s important, he listens to people who know more than he does about showbiz.

The Batangas City native still goes back to his home province where he wants every old buddy to treat him the way they did even when he was still a nobody. “Hindi ko naman po iniisip na sikat na ako,” he says. “In fact, pag nasa Batangas ako, nagdi-dyip pa rin ako, o tricyle.’Yung bus naman, puwede pa naman kaya lang nagkataon na may sasakyan na tayo, kaya hindi na rin ako nakakapg-bus. Pero dito sa Maynila, nage-MRT rin ako paminsan-minsan. Hindi pa naman ako pinagkakaguluhan.”

His tongue is still heavy with Batangas accent but well-meaning new acquaintances from the press advice him to keep it as trademark.

“Nakakatawa nga dahil minsan sa (I Love) Betty La Fea, lumalabas ang punto ko,” he tells. “Sasabihin ko, Marr-yu, marr-yu, sa halip na Mario, eh executive pa naman ang papel ko dun.”

What he dreams now is to have a house in Quezon City, preferably near ABS-CBN. “Kahit na siguro condo lang basta may sarili kami,” he says, referring to his wife and four children. “Umuupa pa lang kami dito sa may Kamuning.”

But he’s working hard to achieve his dream, especially that it is for his family.
“Umuungot nga ako sa mga executive namin na baka puwede na nila akong bigyan ng bahay,” he says with a laugh. Maybe he doesn’t know that he’s just a few steps away from realizing his dream.
