Jed Madela: Talent, not looks
JED Madela, a singing champ who way back bagged the grand prize at the World Championship of the Performing Arts in Los Angeles (he defeated 3,000 entries from 52 countries) doesn’t believe in dieting. It simply won’t work for the 28-year-old balladeer who also won a silver medal and the Best Male Singer award at the Voice of Asia competition a few years ago.
The singer who has grown accustomed to being chubby explains: “I tried to diet and for a time I only ate camote pero masama ang naging epekto sa akin. I became cranky at laging mainitin ang ulo. Even my performance suffered because I began forgetting the lyrics of the song. Mahirap para sa akin ang mag-diet dahil mahilig akong magluto . Friends would come over to my house and I cook for them. Mahilig din akong kumain noong mga inihahanda kong lutuin. My favorite dish pa naman ay native food na hindi pwedeng kainin na walang kasamang rice. What I am trying to do now is exercise. Sa tutoo lang, I believe that the audience is more after seeing the talent of a person rather than how he looks whenever they watch a show.”
An evening of music and romance awaits the fans of Jed when he performs for the first time with Rachelle Ann Go (first prize winner in the Search For A Singing Star Contest) in Viva Concerts titled True Champions: The Best Meets the Very Best on October 24 at the Skydome SM North Edsa.
It will be a night-filled of birit when they render all their hits (she, for Don’t Cry Out Loud and winning song, You and Me, and he, for How Can I Fall) and a string of love duets backed with big production numbers.
