Arnel Pineda, Lani Misalucha US concert tours

Two of the biggest names in the international entertainment scene will come together in a series of concerts showcasing the best of both worlds. One is a rock 'n' roll superstar and the other one is a diva.

In an exclusive glimpse of her rehearsal for the upcoming tour in the United States, Lani Misalucha will be sharing the stage with guest star “Journey” Filipino front man Arnel Pineda.

"This concert will be all about the foundation, the AP (Arnel Pineda) Foundation and the Bantay Bata. It's for all the unfortunate children sa Pilipinas. I’m calling on all our kababayan to please support this show. It will benefit the children,” Pineda said.

The first stop of their concert will be in Hayward, California starting January 29.

"It's exciting because this is a different arena. Medyo rock ng konti and si Lani [will have] a different style. It will be a different show so it’s exciting and we did a production number so it's exciting," said musical director Lorie Ilustre.

Misalucha, meanwhile, is delighted to work with Pineda. She also promised that fans and concertgoers will have a different taste of her medley.

"This time ang isang maio-offer namin is magkakaroon kami ng production number ni Arnel. And sa side ko naman, I will be doing something that I did before na pero hindi ko pa nagagawa sa mga tour ko ngayon. Siyempre, I just can't give it away. So, masaya ‘to," Misalucha said.

Pineda is scheduled to sing on February 1st at the Superbowl's pre-concert event in Tampa Bay, Florida and then he will take the road again with Misalucha.

This is the only time that Pineda will be performing with a kababayan in the US. After his series of shows with Misalucha, Pineda will go back to being the lead singer of “Journey.”

Natutuwa naman kami at kasama sa May Bukas Pa si Maja Salvador kasi na-miss na namin siya nang husto.

Huli namin si-yang napanood sa Kapitan Boom pa early last year.

“May ginagawa rin akong movie ngayon with Jake and Bea. Tapos kasama rin ako sa teleseryeng gagawin nina Gabby at Tita LT,” masayang balita sa amin ni Maja.

Balitang nagbabalik sa buhay niya ngayon si Carlo Aquino, pero may tsika ring lumabas na nagpapalipad-hangin din daw si Carlo kay Roxanne Ginoo.

“Yes, Carlo started to call me again after eight months of no communication. Sa ngayon ay nangangapa pa ako ulit. Hindi ko pa alam kung siya ang Valentine’s date ko kasi hindi pa naman niya ako niyaya. At saka mukhang may taping kami ng araw na ‘yun.

“’Yung tungkol naman kay Roxanne, tinext ako mismo ni Roxanne to inform me na nagte-text daw si Carlo sa kanya ngayon. Balewala sa akin ‘yun. Roxanne is a friend. Now, kung gustong ligawan ni Carlo si Roxanne, go!” say ni Maja.

Hindi totoong babalik sa GMA-7 si Toni Gonzaga, kaya naman nagsalita na ang isa sa malaking artista ng Kapamilya Network.

Ayon mismo kay Toni walang katotohahan ang mga lumabas na balita na lilipat siya sa Kapuso Network.

“Malaki ang utang na loob ko sa ABS-CBN. Naging ganap akong artista sa Dos at may gagawin pa ako sa kanilang this year kaya hindi ako puwedeng umalis dahil masayang-masaya ako sa Kapamilya Network.”

Zaijan Jaranilla, miracle boy in 'May Bukas Pa'

A new ABS-CBN television series on hope and faith, "May Bukas Pa", will showcase the talent of new child actor Zaijan Jaranilla.

The series' story revolves around a little boy, Santino, and how he affects the lives of the people in their small town due to his strong faith.

Ethel Espiritu, production manager of "May Bukas Pa", said "Zaijan fits well in the character of a miracle boy...His big innocent eyes say it all."

The child actor recently played the role of "Tony" on ABS-CBN's "Komiks Presents: Mars Ravelo's Tiny Tony."

He has also appeared in television commercials of Mcdonald's, Lactum, and Tide.

"May Bukas Pa" is directed by Jerome Pobocan and Jojo Saguin.

Watch for Santino as he showers hope and faith in "May Bukas Pa" starting Monday, February 2, only on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida.

Angel Locsin released from hospital

Actress Angel Locsin has been discharged from a hospital in Quezon City after she was confined there last week due to dengue, her rumored boyfriend, Luis Manzano, announced Tuesday.

In a press conference for his upcoming television series “Komiks Presents: Flash Bomba,” Manzano said Locsin left the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

"Nakauwi na po siya. She's on her way to recovery. Siguro mga one week pa po bago siya maka-fully recover. Very, very good news," Manzano said.

On Thursday evening Locsin was brought to St. Luke’s Medical Center where she was diagnosed with dengue infection.

“As of 5 a.m. (Sunday), her platelet count has gone up to 58,000. Her doctor is optimistic that she’s on her way to recovery. Angel would like to thank you all for your prayers,” the actress’ manager, Becky Aguila, told show business talk show “The Buzz” on Sunday in a text message.

Prior to her hospitalization, Locsin was supposed to do guestings on “Entertainment Live” and “The Buzz” last week but these were all cancelled because she was not feeling well.

Manzano recounted that Locsin had a high fever and started vomiting.

In Tuesday’s press conference, the “Flash Bomba” lead star divulged that he even had to force Locsin to go to the hospital.

"Ako lang talaga ang nag-ayos ng lahat na ma-confine siya because I knew she was not feeling well. At may pagkamatigas ang ulo noon at hindi ko siya binigyan ng choice. Sinabi ko talaga na kailangan niyang ma-confine," he said.

After visiting his mother, Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos, who was on a photo shoot then, Manzano said he went straight to St. Luke’s to make all the necessary arrangements.

"Sabi ko, ‘didiretso na ako sa St. Luke’s, aayusin ko na ito, ‘yong room mo lahat-lahat. Ang kailangan mo lang gawin ay pumunta dito, kailangan mong ma-confine.’ Yes, siya ang pumunta sa St. Luke’s kasi inaayos ko ang room, ako ang nauna doon," he said.

Manzano said Locsin’s doctor was then considering two possible infections -- typhoid or dengue.

"So, I think hinintay ‘yong blood culture at binantayan ‘yong platelets kung ano ang nangyayari talaga. Noong constantly bumaba that's when they believed and confirmed na it was dengue," Manzano said.

The actress also acquired the same infection in 2005.

He said he would go straight to the hospital from work to visit Locsin. He also shared that his mother would send food for Locsin when the latter was still recuperating at the hospital.

The actor-host said he is happy that Locsin is now feeling better. He was also thankful that Locsin did not have to undergo a blood transfusion.

'No engagement'

After their reported rift and eventual reconciliation, Manzano, meanwhile, denied that he already proposed to Locsin.

His clarification stemmed from reports saying that Locsin was seen wearing an engagement ring.

"Kung anuman ‘yong singsing na suot niya, I believe na pinaghirapan niya 'yon sa mga pagpupuyat niya. Wala po akong ike-credit sa kahit ano sa mga jewelry niya," Manzano said.

He added that it is not yet time for the two of them to settle down.

"I have so many things to do. Kung feeling ko marami pa akong dapat gawin, triple 'yon para kay Angel. Mas marami pa siyang kailangang gawin," he said.

Luis Manzano never nagselos kay Piolo

Ang tungkol sa nakaraang away nila ni Angel Locsin at ang pagkakaroon nito ng dengue ang tinanong kay Luis Manzano sa presscon ng Komiks Presents Mars Ravelo’s Flash Bomba, kung saan for the first time ay gagampanan ng aktor ang papel na superhero.

Ayon kay Luis, hindi nagtagal ang tampuhan nila ni Angel.

“Sabihin nating siguro, nagkaroon kami ng disagreement ng Saturday night, kaya nu’ng Sunday, nakita nating very emotional siya sa ASAP ’09. ’Yun ang pinagmulan ng issue. Siguro, naayos na rin ’yon by Wednesday or Thursday,” sabi ni Luis.

Paano naayos?

“’Yun nga, pumunta siya sa bahay ko na umuulan,” pagbibiro ni Luis. “No, we just had to talk. Siguro ’yung initiative lang to have a good and decent conversation.”

Kung anuman ang naging dahilan ng away at kung bakit niya nasulat sa Facebook account niya ang mga linyang “I’m pissed off and very disappointed” ay ayaw nang i-divulge pa ng aktor.

“At kita n’yo, mas mabilis na naayos if we keep things to ourselves, na kami na lang ang mag-aayos.”

Tulad ng sinabi ni Angel, wala raw third party involved at lalong hindi totoong nagselos siya kay Piolo Pascual.

“Definitely, hindi po totoo. Never akong nagselos kay Pij (tawag niya kay Piolo). Nananahimik si Piolo, nadadamay pa siya.”

Sa YouTube na lang niya napanood ang pag-iyak ni Angel sa ASAP ’09 at kaya naman siya wala roon ay dahil nasa Bataan siya at nagti-taping ng Flash Bomba.

“Ika-clarify ko lang po, kasi some people say na kaya ako wala sa ASAP ’09 ay dahil may pinagdaraanan kami. Hindi po totoo. Beforehand pa, alam kong wala akong ASAP ’09 because may taping kami sa Bataan.

“Ang unang nag-text sa akin, si Mariel (Rodriguez) and tinatanong niya bakit umiiyak si Angel. Ako, wala rin akong alam, kasi nasa Bataan kami. So, nagulat din ako.

“Nun’g gabing ’yon, I checked it on YouTube and tinanong ko nga siya bakit siya umiyak and she chose not to reply. Siguro, dahil nga fresh pa ’yung napag-awayan namin.

“Siyempre, sa nakita mong napaiyak siya on national TV, na may live audience, may TFC, sino ba naman ang matutuwa? Pero siguro, at that point nga, eh, mataas pa ang emosyon naming dalawa.”

Pati raw ang nanay niyang si Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos, tinanong siya kung bakit umiyak si Angel.

“Sabi ko naman ‘who you?’ Hindi, may mom respects my privacy naman. My mom has always said na she never meddled or invaded my relationships or my privacy. She’s there to give advice, pero hanggang doon lang. So, kumbaga, kung alam niyang sasabihin ko, gagawin ko ’yon ng kusa.”

Habang may tampuhan daw sila ni Angel, panay din ang text ng mom niya.

“She was always there constantly to check on me. Never siyang nagkulang na at least thrice a day na text. Papasimple pa ’yan na text na ‘san ka?’ Work. And then, sasabihin niya, ‘Okay. Happy heart? Just asking.’ Ganu’n lang. She was there for me the same way that she was there for Angel.”

Nang ma-hospitalize si Angel, dalawang beses din daw nagpadala ng food ang mommy niya para sa girlfriend niya.

Hiningan namin ng reaksyon si Luis tungkol sa napabalitang karibal niya ang anak ng businessman na diumano’y nagbigay pa ng bahay sa Corinthian Gardens kay Angel.

“Diyos ko naman, nandiyan na ’yung abortion issue, nandiyan na ’yung nagpagawa ng bahay, everything has been thrown at her and she still remains on top. And that goes to show na alam ng tao kung ano ang totoo at hindi.

“Kahit ano pang batikos na binabato sa kanya, kahit ano pang gawa-gawa, at the end of the day, she’s still Angel Locsin, ang dami pa ring nagmamahal at sumusuporta sa kanya. It just goes to show na alam ng tao kung ano talaga si Angel Locsin.

“Nakakatawa lang ’yung rumors. Tumawag siya sa akin para ipaalam ang issue the same way na sa our first breakup issue, siya rin ’yung tumawag sa akin para sabihing ‘uy, nag-break pala tayo.’ ’Yung ganu’n. So, nagugulat kami sa mga balita na completely no basis kung bakit nagkakaroon.”

Klinaro rin ni Luis ang balitang nag-propose na siya kay Angel at kaya sila nag-away ay dahil tinanggihan ito ng young actress.

“Isa pa ’yon. Hindi po ako nag-propose. Kung anuman ’yung kinukunang singsing na suot niya, I believe, pinaghirapan niya ’yon, sa mga pagpupuyat niya. Wala po akong ike-credit sa kahit ano’ng jewelry niya,” say pa ni Flash Bomba.

Anyway, magsisimula na sa Feb. 7 ang Komiks Presents Mars Ravelo’s Flash Bomba at mapapanood ito every Saturday.

Hindi naman mawawala ang pang-umagang programang Boy & Kris, ililipat lamang ito sa bagong oras ng Primetime Bida ng ABS-CBN at bilang kapalit, isang bagong programa ang mapapanood ng mga televiewers, ang Ruffa & Ai, isang bagong tambalan na inaasahan ng Dos na magpapasaya sa umaga ng mga manonood ng telebisyon.

Ang tambalang Boy Abunda at Kris Aquino naman ay mapapanood pa rin sa umaga sa isang entertainment news program na may pamagat na SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon. Magiging ka-back-to-back ito ng Ruffa & Ai simula sa Pebrero 16, Lunes hanggang Biyernes.

Dalawa lamang ito sa mga pagbabagong gagawin ng ABS-CBN simula ngayong buwan ng Pebrero bilang pasasalamat sa mga TV viewers sa kanilang walang sawang suporta sa network.

Magbabalik din si Maricel Soriano sa Pebrero 23 sa Florinda, isang nakakatakot na namang palabas na pangatlong handog ng Susan Roces Collection.

Pero isang bata na naman ang magpapakirot sa puso ng mga manonood ng TV. Siya si Santino, isang miracle boy, ang main character ng May Bukas Pa, sa Pebrero 2 na.

Mapapanood din ngayong Pebrero ang pinakabagong super hero sa telebisyon, si Flash Bomba, isa pang character ni Mars Ravelo na tulad nina Captain Barbell Lastikman, Tiny Tony at Dragonna ay magtatangkang gawing ligtas ang daigdig sa mga masasamang elemento na gamit ang kanyang mga malalaking kamay at paa.

Tinawag siyang Superhero For All Seasons hindi dahil anak siya ng isang governor-actress kundi dahilan sa ang character na ginagampanan niya ay mahilig sa limelight at gusto ng atensyon ng lahat ng tao. Luis Manzano in Flash Bomba

After being part of ABS-CBN’s top-rating show “Dyosa,” actor-host Luis Manzano will soon breathe life to a superhero: Mars Ravelo’s "Flash Bomba".

Manzano earned positive feedback for his portrayal of Kulas, a merman, in “Dyosa”. As he topbills in “Komiks Presents: Flash Bomba,” Manzano said he is ready to meet the demands in this television series which begins February 7 on ABS-CBN.

“This is my first time to play lead role. Medyo pressured ng konti, but it really helps when people around you are very supportive,” the actor said.

Dubbed “Superhero for All Seasons,” “Flash Bomba” stars Manzano as Roldan Legazpi, a man who overcomes a physical disability resulting from a hunting trip accident and becomes a crime fighter.

The accident impairs his legs, but after studying martial arts and engaging in body building to strengthen his upper body, he eventually learns to walk with his hands.

“Flash Bomba” is the last of the Ravelo superheroes, which includes Kapitan Boom, Varga, Lastikman, Dragonna and Tiny Tony. They are part of the much-anticipated “Isang Lakas” super team.

Other members of the cast of "Flash Bomba" are Roxanne Guinoo, Sid Lucero, Lito Pimentel, Nanette Inventor, Alan Paule, Empoy, and Ms. Rio Locsin.

“Flash Bomba”, directed by Dondon Santos, will replace “Dragonna”.

SABAY na dumating ang mag-sweetheart na Judy Ann Santos at Ryan Agoncillo sa 70th birthday party ni Tito Alfie Lorenzo nu’ng Lunes nang gabi sa Imperial Palace poolside.

Nang pagsalitain namin ni Dondon Sermino sa mikropono sina Juday at Ryan para magbigay ng mensahe kay Tito Alfie ay parang may ‘ipina­hihiwatig’ ang sinabi ni Ryan para sa manager ni Juday.

Ang dayalog ni Papa Ry, kahit may mga pagbabagong magaganap this year ay palagi raw tatandaan ni Tito Alfie na bahagi ito ng buhay nila ni Juday (or something to that effect).

Katakutakot na kantiyaw ang inabot ni Papa Ry mula sa amin ni Dondon dahil sa pahayag niyang ‘yon.

Binigyan namin ito ng kahulugan at hiniritan namin ang magsyota na mukhang nagbabadya na ang kasalan this year dahil sa ‘pagbabagong magaganap’ na binabanggit si Ryan.

Tawa lang nang tawa ang magkasintahan. Lalong tinukso ni Dondon si Juday dahil naka-all white outfit ito that night, kaya hiniritan ni Dondon na tila nagpapraktis na itong magsuot ng puti (na ang next ay white wedding gown na?).

THE show Boy and Kris is reportedly about to end after years of airing daily.

Are people already bored with the show? Or with the faces of its two hosts? Reports says show is low in terms of the rating game.

Everyday, we see the endearing Kris Aquino and the knowledgeable Boy Abunda giving their own spiels. “Kakarindi tapos makikita pa natin sila sa the Buzz,” commented an an avid reader.

Is the show really going to end? Speculations tell us it would but the word is, it’s not.

Fact is, it’s just moving its time slot. And better, it’s moving up on prime time.

This is a nice development as to the achievements of the show is concerned.

With this, will they not consider their viewers in their current time slot? Just asking...

Angel Locsin hindi pa ilalabas ng ospital

Kasalukuyan pa ring nasa St. Luke’s Medical Center si Angel Locsin at nakikipaglaban sa dengue. As of yesterday ay bumaba sa 53,000 ang platelet ng kanyang dugo mula sa 58,000 last Sunday.

Pero huwag daw mag-alala’t ginagawa naman ng mga doktor ang lahat. Normal lang daw ang fluctuation ng platelet kapag may dengue and good thing na hindi naman daw bumababa pa sa 50,000 ang platelet although under observation pa rin ang aktres.

Hindi pa malaman kung saan nakagat ng lamok si Angel na naging sanhi ng pagkakaroon niya ng dengue pero marahil daw ay nang magpunta ang young actress sa Cebu para i-promote ang Love Me Again.

Nagpapasalamat si Angel sa ABS-CBN and Star Cinema management para sa prayers and concern na ipinakikita sa kanya. Nagsidalawan ang mga bossing sa hospital at ang iba naman ay nagpadala ng flowers.

Ang leading man niya sa Love Me Again na si Piolo Pascual ay nagpadala rin ng flowers.

Ang mas nakaka-touch daw ay ang sweetness at concern ng boyfriend ni Angel na si Luis Manzano. Ang young actor ang nagsugod sa kanya sa hospital at nang nangangailangan ito ng dugo ay kaagad nagpa-blood test at willing siyang mag-donate para sa minamahal.

Ang kaso ay hindi sila magkatipo ng dugo. Type O si Luis at B+ naman si Angel.

Sa kasalukuyan ay hindi pa alam kung hanggang kailan mananatili sa hospital si Angel pero positibo naman ang kanyang doktor na gagaling din ito agad.

KC Concepcion ipinagtanggol ang Star Cinema

NAGMISTULANG Valentine’s Day in January ang second presscon ng When I Met U ng GMA Films at Regal Entertainment kahapon, dahil lutang na lutang ang kulay pula sa paligid ng venue.

Bukod sa pagkakasabay sa selebrasyon ng Chinese New Year, feeling in love ang mga taong dumalo na halos lahat ay nakapula, kabilang na ang GMA Films president na si Annette Gozon-Abrogar.

Ang Regal matriarch lang na si Lily Monteverde at mga bidang sina Richard Gutierrez at KC Concepcion ang hindi naka-red.

Kahit puyat dahil sa last shooting day ng When I Met U sa Subic, maaga pa ring dumating ang screen pair na looking fresh as ever.

As expected, pinutakti sila ng tanong tungkol sa totoong estado ng kanilang “relationship,” pero gaya ng dati, walang inamin ang dalawa.

Sinabi lang nila na marami silang mami-miss sa isa’t isa, lalo pa kung iisipin na matatagalan bago sila muling magkatrabaho sa pelikula.

Pero ayon kay KC, hindi man sila magsama sa big screen, maaari pa rin naman silang magtrabaho sa ibang paraan. Hindi na siya nag-elaborate.

Nang may pumansin naman na sa trailer pa lang ay mukhang mas nakakakilig at mas magki-click ang When I Met U sa moviegoers kesa sa first team-up nilang For the First Time sa Star Cinema, hindi naiwasang ipag-tanggol ng unica hija nina Sharon Cuneta at Gabby Concepcion ang film arm ng home studio niya.

Ayon kay KC, halos sabay silang pumirma sa ex-deal ng Star Cinema at GMA Films at Regal. Nauna nga lang gawin ang sa Star, kaya mas mahaba ang naging preparasyon ng GMA at Regal para sa kanilang material.

Bea Alonzo shies away from ‘primetime queen’ tag

Despite the success of all her teleseryes, from “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” to “I Love Betty La Fea,” Bea Alonzo said she still needs to learn a lot in the business.

Alonzo, who has been dubbed as the new queen of Philippine primetime television, said her achievements are still nothing compared to Claudine Barretto and Judy Ann Santos.

"Alam nyo po, ang taas ng respeto ko sa mga taong iyon. Tingin ko, ang dami nilang pinagdaanan bago nila marating 'yong tuktok na 'yon. Feeling ko, ang dami ko pang dapat kainin na bigas, ang dami ko pang dapat pagdaanan," Alonzo said.

She also said she does not focus on becoming primetime television's top audience drawer.

"Hindi naman nasa utak ko na kailangan marating ko iyon. Para sa akin, ‘yong matutunan ko siguro, ‘yong gaya last year, ‘yong kailangan mong i-enjoy ‘yong momentum," she said.

Back-to-back sa primetime leadership ang Tayong Dalawa at I Love Betty La Fea.

Nagulat kami nang malaman namin na sa Visayas at Mindanao, pumapalo ng 56 percent ang rating ng Tayong Dalawa.

Positibo ang feedback dito. Karamihan sa mga kasamahan namin sa panulat ay engaged sa nasabing teleserye. Mabilis kasi ang pacing at mahusay ang pagkakaganap ng mga artista.

Ruffa Gutierrez to write a book about her life story with Yilmaz Bektas

FOR this year, may malaking project palang pinaplano si Ruffa Gutierrez.

Gusto raw niyang isalibro at isapelikula ang life story nila ni Yilmaz Bektas dahil alam niyang marami raw leksyon na matutunan ang mga kababaihan sa kanyang karanasan.

Hiningi raw niya ang permiso ni Yilmaz tungkol dito at pumayag naman daw ang estranged husband.

“He even gave the title, The Man with Two Faces. Sabi ko, teka muna, siya ang bida, ’no? Baka palitan ko ang title,” she said.

Sa nasabing libro ay isusulat daw niya ang kanyang bersyon, pero kung gusto rin naman daw magbigay ng sariling side ng asawa ay okay din.

“And it’s not all bad naman, there’s a lot of really good things na mapupulot dito and there’s a lot of love, kasi kung walang love, wala kaming Lorin at Venice (their two kids).”

Siguro raw, libro muna ang mauuna and then to follow ang movie. Kung gagawing pelikula, wala pa raw siyang naiisip na aktor para gumanap na Yilmaz, pero on her part, siya na raw mismo ang gaganap.

A Kapamilya Sinulog

Recently, the Kapamilya network joined in the colorful, grand celebration of Sinulog Festival in honor of the Sto. Niño. Cebuanos were treated to a week-long activity dubbed Kapamilya Karavan: Sinulog Festival 2009 that added glitter and excitement to the festive mood.

ABS-CBN News delivered fresh updates on the event — from the fluvial procession to street parties to mall events to the pontifical Mass to the grand parade. Sky Patrollers constantly went around town, giving an aerial view and on-the-spot report to televiewers nationwide. Live reports were simultaneously aired on radio and TV for kapamilyas who were not physically present for various reasons. Live webcasts, on the other hand, let our kababayan abroad witness the celebration of the mother of all festivals.

”We also put large video monitors in strategic places so everybody could get a close view of the event,” says Ronald Padriga, ABS-CBN marketing specialist of channel development group.

Hundreds of thousands of local and foreign tourists flocked to the center of this central Philippine island to experience the country’s grandest festival.

Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin greeted the ecstatic audience at SM City with a lively ”Viva Señor Sto. Niño.” They rendered songs that elicited deafening shrieks and wild applause from the jampacked crowd.

The warm welcome was also felt by Pinoy Dream Academy scholars Lizelle Garcia, Van Pojas and Sen Nichols during their album tour at SM Entertainment Center.

“We always give in to their (Cebuanos) requests. That’s why the whole regional group has come up with well-planned activities that would surely delight them,” says Jayne Abella, ABS-CBN’s Cebu Creative Communications Management head.

Sending everyone in a more jubilant mood was the appearance of Banana Split girls Angelica Panganiban, Cristine Reyes and Roxanne Guinoo in a show held at the Ayala South Surface Parking Area last Saturday. It started at 3:30 p.m. and saw an estimated audience of 15,000. Fences from all sides were full of people, standing all throughout the show.

The girls did song numbers with male fans onstage. Cristine sang Hawak Kamay and went down the stage for the audience to meet her up close. Roxanne, while singing, teased her partner with a charm that made everyone ecstatic.

The event ended with stars thanking everyone for watching ABS-CBN shows.

“Their shows are really nice. I’m really satisfied especially with their Primetime Bida. It has variety of stories. I’m really satisfied,” a Cebuano fan says.

Indeed, the satisfaction was overwhelming. But there’s still more. Viz rock fans converged and made the football field of Cebu State College of Science and Technology System too crowded in anticipation of feel-good music from local bands and Parokya Ni Edgar via MOR’s Lupig Sila with Parokya Ni Edgar. Colt 45 gave away novelty items and beer cans to winning game participants.

Despite the global financial crisis, contingents from as far as Lanao del Norte took part in the Sinulog Festival garbed in colorful costumes. They danced to the graceful and rhythmic Sinulog beat.

Above all the activities, Pinoys’ religiosity vividly reflects during the pontifical Mass held at Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño. Devotees trooped to the church’s pilgrim center with prayers of thanks and various wishes for the new year. Most of them attest to the miraculous blessings of the Sto. Niño. One devotee even gave away Sto.Niño statuettes as a show of gratitude and faith.

Will Charice stay in US?

With her star fast rising in America, will Charice finally decide to stay there (since she holds an “extra-ordinary ability” visa processed by immigration lawyer and STAR columnist Michael Gurfinkel)?

“It depends,” Charice was quoted as saying.

Meaning, if offers out there come one after another, why not?

In the meantime, Charice will be, as usual, shuttling between the US and the Philippines depending on where work is.

The newest feather on Charice’s cap was her performance in two of the Obama pre-inaugural parties held at the Mandarin Oriental and at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel. It wasn’t Oprah, said to be Charice’s adviser, who facilitated the inclusion of Charice in the event but Michael and his wife Millie.

“Millie has ‘connections’ with Loida Nicolas Lewis, a prominent Filipina in the US, kaya nakasali si Charice sa pre-inaugural balls,” said a Funfare source. “Michael and Millie are also avid supporters of Democrats (Pres. Barack Obama is one) and they attended several fund-raising events for Democrats, including the one for the Clintons.”

Here are excerpts of an article about that event written by Momar G. Visaya for The Asian Journal (circulated in the US) titled “Charice Rocks Obama Pre-inaugurals” datelined Washington D.C., a clipping of which was e-mailed to Funfare by Millie:

The unstoppable Charice brought yet another honor to the Philippines and her millions of kababayan when she wowed audiences during two very important pre-inaugural gala events held in this city to celebrate the swearing-in of Pres. Barack Obama.

And this was not just the usual audience.

President Obama’s sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and her husband Conrad were both teary-eyed when Charice performed her show-stopping version of God Bless America at the Pearl Presidential Inaugural Gala held at the Mandarin Oriental on Monday, Jan. 19, the eve of the President’s historic swearing-in.

“That beautiful and powerful rendition, which came from this small package, is capable to shatter the biggest apathy in this world,” Soetoro-Ng told the audience as she hugged Charice.

Soetoro-Ng and her husband represented Pres. Obama in the gala that gathered nearly 1,500 personalities and community leaders in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

Businesswoman and philanthropist Loida Lewis was instrumental in the decision to invite Charice to perform. Ms. Lewis and Millie Gurfinkel have both attended various fund-raisers for the Democratic Party, and they discussed about the wonder girl that is Charice. Loida then conferred with the gala co-chairs Gloria Caoile and Francey Lim Youngberg for the inclusion of Charice in the program.

“Charice is now an international symbol of not letting adversity get you down. She is the symbol of what Barack Obama says, ‘Yes, I can!’ She rightfully deserves to be here in the biggest gathering of Asian American leaders,” Lewis said.

In the Martin Luther King, Jr. pre-inaugural gala aptly called Realizing the Dream at Hyatt Hotel, Charice was the finale performer. She also sang God Bless America, and was immediately hugged onstage by the hero’s son, Martin Luther King III.

“Sobrang kaba ko po kasi first time ko kasi na kakantahin yung God Bless America sa harap ng ganito katinding audience,” Charice said before the Hyatt event.

It turns out that she did not need to worry one bit. The audience, including the dignitaries who attended Sen. Edward Kennedy’s son Ted, Queen Noor and Atlanta Rep. John Lewis loved her performance.

Rep. Lewis’ legal assistant told us that the congressman was on the verge of tears while watching Charice perform. “It was such a heartfelt rendition. We loved it,” she said.

The event was held to commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as the celebration of the Realizing Dream Awards. This year’s awardees were Sen. Edward Kennedy, Rep. John Lewis, Burma’s Daw Aung Sang Suu Kyi and Rev. Claude William Black.

Charice’s winning streak continued when she joined the reception at the Philippine Embassy and performed a couple of show-stopping numbers for her kababayan.

She was escorted to the event by lawyer Michael Gurfinkel and his wife Millie, and the Asian Journal, which alerted the embassy that Charice was in Washington, D.C., and that she wanted to pay Ambassador Willy Gaa a courtesy call.

“Iba pa rin po kasi kapag ang kinakantahan ko yung mga kababayan natin at kahit naman saan po ang marating ko, I am always a Filipino and I am proud to be one,” Charice said.

She sang One Moment in Time and God Bless America, pitch-perfect as usual, as she hit all those high notes. After each song, she was rewarded with wild applause, followed by hugs and words of congratulations and encouragement.

The soap is reportedly facing ABS CBN’s "Eva Fonda" which stars Cristine Reyes on its timeslot. So it is expected that both Marian and Cristine will bring out their A’s in their respective soaps. It is reported that the sexy actress from GMA will show much more skin here.

Meanwhile, there were predictions late last year that Marian and leading man Dingdong Dantes’ careers will take a plunge this year. But the actor was quoted as saying, “Honestly, I don’t believe in predictions.” He said that people have their own way of controlling their destiny. Pops Fernandez happy for BB

POPS Fernandez is the second of three new members of the "I Love Betty La Fea" cast. Jericho Rosales has already been introduced and the third one is Karylle. Pops plays the haughty and aristocratic Paulina de la Serna, sister of Karylle. "Ako ang magiging bagong pabigat sa buhay ni Betty," says Pops. "Sa Ecomoda, si Ruffa Gutierrez ang kalaban niya. Sa island naman where she gets stranded, ako ang aapi sa kanya. When they got in touch with me for the show, sabi ko, totoo ba ito? I didn't believe it until they had a solo story conference for me. I'm really excited kasi my last regular show was in GMA-7 pa four years ago na. This is also my comeback sa ABS-CBN. I really missed acting in soaps."

Isn't she worried her fans who're used to seeing her in "api" roles will be alienated by her villainous role in "Betty La Fea"? "No naman kasi iba na ang audience ngayon, e. I also played a villain in 'Zsa Zsa Zaturnaaah' and everyone said I was so convincing, even my sons. I even got nominated pa nga as best supporting actress kaya I really welcome the challenge of doing something offbeat like this on TV. I don't want to play kawawa lagi. Dito, I also welcome working with younger stars like Bea Alonzo and Jericho. This is the chance for me to make new friends. But I'm also excited as I'd get to work with Ruffa, who's a dear friend. Eventually raw, our paths will cross and I look forward to doing our scenes together. Siguro wala kaming gagawin kundi magtawanan sa set."

Since she'll play a character who's born rich, she'll have her own stylist for the show. "Mas mayaman ang character ko rito as Paulina kaysa Ruffa's Daniella. Pareho kaming mean ang characters dito and it'll be a lot of fun when we become mean to each other."

Rustom Padilla, her co-star in "Zsa Zsa Zaturnaaah", is a good friend of hers. What can she say about his decision to kill the old Rustom and now be known as BB Gandang Hari? "I'm very happy for BB. He has come out in the open and he can now do whatever he wants. Impressed ako sa kanyang paninindigan at sa kanyang poise."

Pops will also be busy with two Valentine concerts. She has "Missing You" with Martin Nievera at the Big Dome and she also has a Valentine show with Iya Villania, Vernie Varga and Pokwang on February 7 produced by Annabelle Rama's Royal Era Entertainment.

WHY RUFFA KNOWS THE FACTS

AFTER the launch of Pops in "Betty La Fea" at ABS last Tuesday, we went to Mother Lily's Century Imperial Hotel for the thanksgiving party of the Gutierrez family. Annabelle Rama was there as "punong abala" with husband Eddie Gutierrez, daughter Ruffa, and her wards at Royal Era: JC De Vera, TJ Trinidad, Ehra and Michelle Madrigal, Arnell Ignacio, Assunta de Rossi, Ana Roces, Almira Muhlach, Miriam Quiambao, Melissa Avelino and Inah Asistio. Annabelle thanked the press for helping her family and her talents through the years. They raffled off several I-phones, Ipod nano, cellphones, DVD players, LCD 32 inch TV sets (we're fortunate to win one of them) and cash prizes.

Richard Gutierrez was absent as he's still busy shooting "When I Met U" with KC Concepcion. Raymond was also not there. But Ruffa more than made up for the absence of her brothers and hosted the affair with their loyal and competent resident PR man, Jun Lalin. Ruffa cracked a lot of jokes and she made us laugh several times.

Ruffa is really one of our best showbiz oriented show hosts today as she does her homework before reporting on "The Buzz." For instance, when it was rumored that Geneva Cruz has broken up with KC Montero, she called up Geneva right away and proved that the rumor is false as Geneva was with KC at that very moment in the U.S. and also with her son Heaven.

More recently, when it was reported that Anne Curtis has kissed and made up with Sam Milby, she called up Anne right away to get the true story right from, so to speak, the horse's mouth. Anne informed her that it's not true they're together again. "Hindi raw sila nagkabalikan ni Sam," she announced. "But they're in better terms and now text each other."

We asked Ruffa how she feels about Pops' joining "Betty La Fea". "Of course, I'm happy about it kasi magkaibigan kami and it'd be nice to work together para mas makapag-bonding kami nang husto," she says. "But you know what, ABS just informed me that they're giving the cast of 'Betty La Fea' a blow out kasi ang taas-taas ng rating namin nationwide: 36%. And I'm sure we'll gain more viewership now that paganda nang paganda ang show with the introduction of more interesting characters like Pops and Jericho."

Roxanne Guinoo nagka-trauma kay Jake Cuenca

NAKAUSAP namin si Roxanne Guinoo sa taping ng Banana Split, ang kinabibilangan niyang gag show sa ABS-CBN.

Ikinuwento niya sa amin ang paghaharap nila ng kanyang ex-boyfriend na si Jake Cuenca nang muli silang magkatrabaho at magkasama sa isang episode ng Maalaala Mo Kaya.

"Noong una kaming nagkita sa set, awkward," panimula ni Roxanne. "Pero, nang magtagal, nag-usap na kami. Siya ang unang gumawa ng way para magka-usap kami."

Nag-sorry raw si Jake kay Roxanne. Sa ngayon ba ay masasabi niya na friends na ulit sila ni Jake?

"Hindi naman namin kailangang maging super friends," sagot ng da-laga. "Basta okey na ka-mi ngayon. Open na ako na muli siyang makatrabaho. Kung may offer ulit na pagtatambalin kami, tatanggapin ko pa rin."

Nang una bang i-offer sa kanya ang Maalaala Mo Kaya at malaman niya na si Jake ang makakatam-bal, hindi ba siya nagdalawang-isip na tanggapin ito since hindi naging maganda ang paghihiwalay nila ni ng dating BF at may bugbugan isyu pa sa kanila?

"Ay hindi," mabilis na sagot ni Roxanne "Kasi ako, gusto ko lang talagang magtrabaho nang magtrabaho. At saka maganda ‘yong role. Sayang kung palalampasin ko. And one more thing, gusto ko talaga ng drama. Kaya nga sana, mabigyan ulit ako ng serye ng ABS-CBN."

Ngayong okey na sila ni Jake, posible bang magkabalikan sila? Meaning maging magkasintahan ulit? Papaano if humingi ng second chance si Jake?

"Ay, hindi na siguro. Okey na ‘yong ganito na lang kami. Basta okey na kami ngayon, hanggang doon na lang ‘yon. Wala nang balikan na mangyayari. Napakarami ko nang chance na ibinigay sa kanya."

Tipong nagka-trauma si Roxanne sa pakikipag-relasyon kay Jake. Ngayon, ayaw na ba niyang makipagbalikan sa ex-BF dahil may bago ba siyang minamahal?

"May mga nanliligaw, pero wala pa akong sinasagot. Siyempre, tumatanggap ako ng suitor. Ayoko namang tumandang dalaga," tawa niya.

Puro non-showbiz daw ang nanliligaw ngayon kay Roxanne.

Kumusta na ba sila ni Carlo Aquino na na-link sa kanya noon?

"Ewan ko doon, hindi na nga siya nagpaparamdam. Minsan tinext ko siya, pero dedma. Hindi siya sumagot," saad ni Roxanne.

Charice dazzles guests at RP embassy

Teenage singing sensation Charice dazzled the guests and Filipino American Rep. Steve Austria, a new member of the US Congress, lifted their spirits at a reception at the Philippine embassy to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States.

Charice, a surprise appearance at the reception on Monday, belted “One Moment in Time” and then did a haunting rendition of “God Bless America” that left many spellbound.

The power of her voice in a small, enclosed auditorium like the Romulo Hall where the reception was held literally blew people away. Many were left gasping for breath. Others could only mumble “Oh, my God.”

Austria, a first-generation Filipino-American member of the US Congress, in a passionate speech called on all Filipino-Americans to involve themselves more in mainstream politics and speak with one voice so they can make a difference.

“Yes, we can,” he said, echoing Obama’s famous campaign mantra.

He said he was very proud of his Filipino heritage passed on by his father, the late Dr. Clemente Austria of Tiaong, Quezon, a World War II veteran who came to the US to study medicine.

“It was so important in my family, and especially to my father, that we knew and understood Filipino traditions and customs,” he said.

The newly minted congressman, a Republican from Ohio, said he looked forward to working with the Philippine embassy and Ambassador Willy Gaa “on issues near and dear to us” and hoped to visit the Philippines soon.

His last visit was in 1977, a high school graduation gift by his father to him.

Austria arrived at the tail-end of the reception when many guests had already left because he was caught in a two-hour traffic jam while traveling the less than five-mile (8 km) distance from Capitol Hill to the Philippine embassy.

Hoards of people from all over the country have converged in Washington for Obama’s historic inauguration, and thousands of police and national guardsmen have been called in from other states to help secure the capital, especially the parade route between Capitol Hill and the White House.

Up to two million spectators are expected to turn out for the ceremony, though the final figure may be smaller because of freezing weather forecast for the whole day.

Ambassador Gaa in a welcome address said Obama had universal appeal and under his administration the Philippines looked forward to even greater cooperation and stronger alliance with the US.

“We will intensify our partnership in reducing poverty (in the Philippines) under the Millennium Challenge Account. We will intensify our efforts for the passage of the veterans equity bill,” he said. “We will promote human rights.”

Gaa told reporters the unexpected presence of Charice “spiced up” the reception. “I’m happy she was able to make it at such short notice,” he said.

Charice herself said she more or less invited herself to the reception when she heard about it because she wanted to “sing for Pinoys.”

After her two numbers at the embassy she had to rush to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to perform at the Pearl Presidential Inaugural Gala organized by the Asian Pacific American community.

On Sunday night Charice sang “God Bless America” at The People’s Inaugural Gala at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and brought the house down.

Witnesses said she also brought some people to tears, an amazing feat considering that was the first time she sang that song in public, according to her.

“I’m honored and blessed to be invited to perform in the inaugural balls here in Washington. It’s a great honor for a Pinoy,” she said.

On the other hand, another Filipino-American student has been chosen to witness Obama’s inauguration.

Gabriel Angelo Yap Millare was invited to attend the ceremony, and will even sit in the front row.

Apart from witnessing the historic inauguration, Millare was invited to attend the inaugural convention, giving him the opportunity to rub elbows with Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, former State Secretary Colin Powell and former US vice president and environmentalist Al Gore.

Millare is a two-time Presidential Academic Excellence awardee. While at the Barbara Bush School in San Antonio, Texas, Millare was a delegate to the Junior National Leaders Conference in Washington where he had the opportunity to meet America’s top political leaders.

Other Filipino students invited to the historic ceremony are Luisa Kristabel “Abbey” Manliclic, Paul Michael Thomas Cruz and Anna Marie Liwanag.

Consul General Domingo Nolasco, who oversaw the preparations for the reception, said about 140 of 200 invited guests attended, a good turnout considering many other receptions, galas and parties for Obama were being held in Washington at about the same time.

In addition to the 10 official balls that President and Mrs. Obama and Vice President and Mrs. Joe Biden are most likely to attend on Tuesday, there are a gazillion other parties in town.

During the reception, about 30 Filipinos held a peaceful protest outside the embassy demanding an end to US military aid to the Philippines.

The protesters, mostly from Kararungan, Bayan USA and the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns, urged the Obama administration to “withdraw US support to the unpopular Arroyo regime.”

No third party, says Angel Locsin

“Wow naman,” ang unang reaksyon ni Angel Locsin nang makausap namin sa telepono kahapon hinggil sa bagong issue na diumano’y may third party on her part sa diumano’y breakup nila ni Luis Manzano at binigyan pa umano siya ng bahay sa White Plains.

Ayon sa write-up ni katotong Ogie Diaz dito sa People’s Tonight, anak daw ng negosyante ang guy at usap-usapan sa neighborhood ng White Plains ang ibinigay na bahay kay Angel.

“Actually, pupunta nga kami sa White Plains para hanapin ang bahay na ’yon,” pagbibiro ni Angel.

Kidding aside, ayon sa bida ng Love Me Again, nagulat na lang siya sa mga naglalabasang issue na may third party involved sa relasyon nila ni Luis.

Ni wala raw siyang kilalang anak ng negosyante tulad ng itsinitsismis sa kanya at hindi niya kilala kung sino ’yon.

Tinanong namin si Angel kung may friend siyang anak ng businessman o kahit kakilala man lang?

Pero say niya, wala raw. Ni hindi na nga raw siya nakakalabas or nakaka-meet ng new friends dahil sa sobrang busy niya.

“Sinabi ko nga agad kay Luis ’yang bagong issue na ’yan. Sabi ko, ‘uy, may nagbigay daw ng bahay sa akin.‘ Nagtatawanan na lang kami,” pahayag pa ni Angel.

So, okay na ba sila ni Luis?

“May mga problema lang nang kaunti na inaayos, pero okay na kami,” she said.

Kung ano ’yung mga problemang ’yon ay ayaw nang idetalye pa ni Angel dahil sa kanila na lang daw dalawa ’yon.

Pero, gusto niyang klaruhin na walang third party sa parte niya o sa parte ni Luis.

Bakit pinalitan niya ang status niya sa Facebook account na “not in a relationship?”

“Wala, ano lang ’yon, confused lang ako nu’ng time na ’yon. Nakita nga rin niya (Luis), eh, tinanong nga ako. Lahat kasi, tinanggal ko, ’yung status, ’yung movies and ’yung iba pang nakalagay du’n, tinanggal ko.

“Tapos, kahapon, pinaglalagyan niya (’yung Facebook account ko) na okay kami, okay kami,” natatawang say ni Angel.

Pero malaki ba ang tsansa na maayos ang relasyon nila?

“Oo naman, maayos. Actually, okay na kami, may mga kaunti lang na inaayos pa,” she said.

Gusto ring iklaro ni Angel na pinaghihirapan niya ang kinikita niya at hindi siya ang tipo ng babae na papatol sa mayaman para lang magkaroon ng bahay at materyal na bagay.

“Ten years nang ang inuulam ko ay pure vegetables. Isa akong vegetarian kaya hindi ako tumataba. Gradual ang pagiging vegetarian ko. Tinanggal ko na ang pagkain ng pork, beef at chicken. Mostly ay fruits, vegetables, fish, milk and cheese, kasama na d’yan ang chicharong tofu at vegetarian barbecue. Lasang karne rin ito, pero hindi nakatataba. Iyan ang sekreto ng pananatiling nasa magandang hubog ang katawan ko. Iwinaglit ko na rin ang pagkain ng rice,” sey ng star ng When I Met You katambal si Richard Gutierrez directed by Joel lamangan.

Nang itanong namin kay KC kung ano talaga ang totoo sa kanila ni Richard, umiling lang ito at sabay sabing: “Noon pa naman ay nagpaparamdam na ‘yan(Richard) pero talagang hanggang best of friends lang kami. Ayoko munang umibig ngayon dahil ayoko nang masaktan ulit. Sa ngayon, career muna. Saka na ang lovelife. Masaya ako sa career ko, sa achievements ko bilang isang artista!”

Ang sinasabing nakasakit nang husto kay KC ay ang pakikipagrelasyon niya kina Direk Lino Cayetano at Rico Blanco. Lalo na raw kay Rico, nag-break sila nang may hinanakitan.

Anyway, posibleng sa darating na panahon ay mahalin na rin niya si Richard.

Why did Rustom Padilla ‘kill’ Rustom Padilla?

The first time Rustom Padilla appeared in public dressed as a woman during last year’s Urian Awards, he drew nothing more than giggles. After all, he said he was doing it because he was “internalizing” for a future role as, yes, a woman.

But a few days ago when he flew in from New York dressed, again, as a woman, Rustom elicited more than just amusement but mild concern, you know: Is he really serious about becoming, hmmmm, a “real” woman?

“Rustom Padilla is dead!,” the former Rustom Padilla insists when she is addressed by her former name. “I am now Bebe Gandanghari.”

Rustom, err, Bebe related that she now acts and sounds like a woman that the Taiwanese lady seated beside her on the Eva Air flight from New York never suspected anything unusual. “Tawa ako nang tawa,” she said, “but very ladylike, of course.”

During her three-month stay in New York, Bebe said she hooked up with modeling agencies and tried to make “connections.” But contrary to what many people suspected, Bebe didn’t take any pills for female-hormone formation nor did she undergo any psychological counseling in preparation for a sex change.

“Sex change? I haven’t seriously thought of that,” said Bebe who, according to showbiz-observers, now looks strikingly like her ex-wife Carmina Villarroel (now Zoren Legaspi’s beloved). “My role model is Audrey Hepburn. Siya ang gusto kong gayahin.”

If offered a project with Carmina, what roles should they play, sisters or mother and daughter (who’s the mother and who’s the daughter)?

“Not naman mother and daughter, sisters na lang. Hahahaha!”

The Padillas, led by their mom Eva Cariño, seem to be one in saying that wherever their sibling is happy, it’s okay with them — “Basta huwag lang siyang lalabag sa batas ng Diyos.”

By that, Bebe presumed that Mama Eva was referring to, well, falling in love and/or having sex.

“My mom doesn’t have to worry,” assured Bebe, “because I’m not promiscuous.”

Asked if she plans to eventually settle down with the man of her dreams, Bebe smiled.

“I don’t want to grow old alone.”

Reminded that she was doing very well as Rustom Padilla the macho actor (in such films as Mistah and Yamashita Treasure, etc.), Bebe promptly replied, “It means that I was a good actress!”

Will Miriam Quiambao replace Lara as Wowowee co-host?

In last Saturday’s edition of the ABS-CBN noontime show Wowowee, three Bb. Pilipinas-Universe title-holders sat as judges of the Miss Fitrum search — Gloria Diaz (1969 Miss Universe), Margie Moran (1973 Miss Universe) and Miriam Quiambao (1999 Miss Universe first runner-up), together with couturiers Rajo Laurel and Renee Salud, and Gabby Concepcion.

Miriam’s guesting in an ABS-CBN show made some people wonder what she’s up to since she’s an exclusive contract artist of rival station GMA 7. Was Miriam, or her manager Annabelle Rama, sort of “testing the waters”?

Yes, they were. That’s according to an ABS-CBN insider who added that Miriam is being eyed by Wowowee host Willie Revillame as a possible replacement of Precious Lara Quigaman (another Bb. Pilipinas beauty and 2005 Miss International no less) who was asked to quit the show when she violated an unwritten rule about bringing a boyfriend to the set.

“Willie has been looking for a possible replacement for Lara,” said the ABS-CBN insider, “at siempre gusto niya ay isa ring international beauty queen. It was Willie who suggested that Miriam be included as one of the judges in the Miss Fitrum finals.”

During a casual on-air interview, Willie sent Miriam a “feeler” while briefly mentioning what happened to Lara. “Wala ka bang boyfriend?” Willie asked Miriam jokingly. Miriam hesitated and said, “How did you know?” and then laughed.

The truth is that after she separated from Claudio Rondinelli, her Italian-businessman husband, Miriam briefly dated only one guy, also a foreigner.

Don’t get Willie wrong. Any of his female co-hosts can have a boyfriend, why not, but they should refrain from bringing their boyfriends to work so they (co-hosts) won’t be distracted, especially during Wowowee’s staging abroad.

If and when Miriam decides to jump ober da bakod and join Wowowee, she should take note of that.

Sarah Geronimo tambak ang nominasyon sa MYX

Si Sarah Geronimo ang may pinakamaraming nominations sa MYX Music Awards 2009 na gagawin sa February 26, sa Dolphy Theater ng ABS-CBN. Anim ang nominations niya at sigurado naman, kundi man lahat, isa o dalawang awards ang iuuwi niya.

Nominado si Sarah sa Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ at kalaban niya rito sina KC Concepcion, Kim Chiu & Gerald Anderson, Sam Concepcion at Vhong Navarro.

Karen Davila pasahero ng de-kuryenteng jeep

Namataan kamakailan lang si ABS-CBN anchor Karen Davila sakay ng isang ‘di pang-karaniwang jeep. Ang naturang sasakyan ay iba sa nakasa­nayan dahil hindi gasolina kundi kuryente ang nagpa­patakbo dito.

Itong de-kuryenteng jeep o “e-jeep” ay isa lamang sa mga imbensyong Pinoy na tatalakayin ni Karen bukas ng gabi (Jan 20) sa The Correspondents.

Sa panahon ng krisis, kanya-kanyang paraan ang mga Pilipino upang makamura at makatipid. Isa na dito ang pag-iimbento ng mga alternatibong sistema at gamit na makakatulong sa sambayanan.

Ibibida rin ni Karen ang mga mala-igloong istruk­tura sa Surigao na gawa sa buhangin, semento, at drum na maaaring gayahin sa paggawa ng paaralan. Bukod sa mura ang materyales, presko din ito para sa mga mag-aaral.

Si Karen ay pinarangalan kamakailan lang bilang isa sa 2008 Ten Outstanding Young Men ng Junior Chamber International Philippines dahil sa kan­yang mga makabuluhang dokyumentaryo at kontri­bus­yon sa larangan ng pamamahayag.

Angel Locsin nagso-solo ng problema

Nagkakwentuhan kami ni Ela Colmenares (kapatid ni Angel Locsin) at tinanong ko siya tungkol sa napapabalitang may tampuhan ang sis niyang aktres at ang bf nitong si Luis Manzano.

May mga balita pa ngang lumabas (hindi sa aming tabloid) na nagsasabing hiwalay na sila. Gaano ito katotoo? Tanong ko kay Ela.

“Wala namang sinasabi sa aking problema si Angel tungkol kay Lucky. Siya kasi ang tipo ng babae na sinasarili ang problema at never na nagko-confide sa akin. Masaya naman siya kaya nang tanungin ko nga kung bakit siya umiyak sa ASAP habang kumakanta sila ni Piolo Pascual ang sagot niya, dahil masaya siya sa nangyayari ngayon sa kanyang buhay,” anang Ela.

Hindi kami naniniwala na hiwalay na sila ni Luis dahil wala namang dahilan para sila’y mag-away o kahit magkatampuhan lang. Compatible silang dalawa sa maraming bagay.

Rustom Padilla is dead

“RUSTOM Padilla is dead," thus declared Bebe Gandanghari, the name which the actor now sports. He (or she?) appeared on Startalk yesterday and his revelations shocked viewers.

He just arrived from New York where he studied fashion modelling, among other things, but denied he had a sex change.

Garbed in a stylish New York attire, he did the ramp before and after his revealing interview with Startalk hosts, Butch Francisco, Joey de Leon, Lolit Solis and Ricky Lo.

In a video clip, his mother Eva Cariño said she had gradually accepted the fate of her son, but admitted she still has misgivings. Mommy Eva, who certainly is her son (or daughter) Bebe's spitting image.

Some people surmise that Mommy Eva's words of acceptance may have come from herself, but her hint of denials are based on her other sons' opinion, especially Robin Padilla.

Mommy Eva's last advice was to heed the words of God, and Bebe (or Rustom) assured her that he will follow her.

Meanwhile, Rustom Padilla's fans are still in a state of shock.

Charice steals People night -- videos

Ninety-percent of the well-heeled guests graced the People of the Year 2008 Awards Night (marking People Asia magazine’s ninth anniversary) Thursday night at the grand ballroom Sofitel Philippine Plaza went home tsk-tsking in awe over Charice who rendered three numbers after she got her plaque as one of the 10 awardees (also including, among others, Pres. Cory Aquino, Sharon Cuneta, Makati Mayor Jojo Binay, Vice Pres. Noli de Castro, Sen. Manny Villar and US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney).

“I came not only to witness the awarding but also, more so, to watch Charice sing ‘live’,” was what many of the guests were saying.

Charice didn’t disappoint. She unleashed such a powerful voice that everybody listened with mouths agape.

“What a jaw-dropping performance,” quipped an “invited” guest. “Siguro kung may langaw dito, lahat pumasok sa bibig ng audience. Mabuti na lang wala.”

Charice stole the People night by singing first a medley of I Will Always Love You and I Have Nothing, followed by Listen which was, according to Charice, re-arranged for her by the David Foster who was quoted when he and Charice guested together on Good Morning, America, that Charice actually helped him with the re-arranging. “She’s a musical genius,” said Foster, “she can re-arrange a song so easily, as if she’s just picking a dress from the closet.”

Revealed Charice, “Mr. Foster asked me to point out kung saan ko dapat itaas ang aking key at kung saan dapat ibaba, kung saan dapat magtu-turn ang boses ko.”

In response to shouts for an encore, Charice obliged with a heart-stopping rendition of I Will Survive. The audience gave her a standing ovation.

Last night, Charice and her mom Raquel took a JAL flight to the US where she’s performing two songs, God Bless America and One Moment in Time, tomorrow, Jan. 18, in one of the pre-inaugural parties for President-Elect Barack Obama.

“I will send The STAR exclusive photos of my performance,” promised Charice. Good. That should put in place detractors who have been belittling Charice’s part in the event.

Incidentally, as Funfare reported in a “scoop” several issues ago, Charice is included in Foster’s album entitled You’re The Inspiration: The Music of David Foster & Friends which honors Foster’s colorful four-decade career. The CD/DVD features the tribute to Foster held last year in Las Vegas. Aside from Charice, also on the DVD/CD are Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Katharine McPhee, Blake Shelton, Kenny G, Peter Cetera and Brian McKnight. It’s available in record bars at P550 apiece.

Angel Locsin to replace Claudine Barretto as ABS-CBN queen?

Dumalo kami sa pinag-uusapang premier night ng Love Me Again kung saan muling namayagpag ang tambalan nina Angel Locsin at Piolo Pascual.

Dinaluhan ito ng big bosses ng Star Cinema headed by Malu Santos, pinilahan ng maraming tao ang unang hit movie na pinagsamahan ng dalawa.

Dumating din ang mga pamilya at kaibigan nina Piolo at Angel.

Fresh from the States ay talagang suportado ng mga kapatid at ina ng aktor ang pelikula.

No doubt, naroon na ang chemistry nina Angel at Piolo, nasubukan na ang tandem nila sa Lobo pero iba pa rin pala ‘pag napanood sila sa isang pelikula.

Iba ang dating ng kilig at hindi ka magsasawa na ha-hanapin mo ang kanilang tambalan.

Dahil sa gandang panoo-rin nina Piolo at Angel on screen hindi tuloy napigilang magkomento ng ilang manonood, na akala lang natin ay kay Claudine Barretto nakita ang isang perfect screen partner for Piolo, pero hindi.

Si Angel talaga ang bagay kay Piolo.

Natural at hindi pilit ang samahan nila.

Simple lang ang plot, umiikot sa buhay probinsiya.

Nakakatuwa dahil nai-revive nina Direk Rory at ng Creative Team ng Star Cine-ma ang kuwentong cowboy, at ang ganda talaga sa Bukidnon, huh?!

Buhay ng pagiging isang ranchero ang ating mapapanood at kung paano mababago ng pagmamahalan, tiwala at pag-asa ang lahat kina Ara (Angel) at Migo (Piolo).

Sa puntong ito, hindi maiiwasan na mangamba ang ilan para kay Claudine.

May mga nagsasabing may katapat na si Claudine sa pagiging reyna ng Dos?

In fairness kay Angel, kung akting lang ang pagbabasehan, hindi magpapahuli ang dalaga.

Hindi rin siya ang tipong nag-iinarte at simple lang siya, kung kaya’t agad ni-yang nakuha ang pagtingin ng mga tao.

She knows how to reach out, ika nga. At wala siyang pinipiling kausap. Ito ang aming napansin sa kanya at kapuri-puri ang katangiang ito.

Well, sana ay hindi rin huli para kay Claudine na makabawi pa.

Mas bongga, mas marami na silang reyna ngayon.
