Will TV5 outshine other stations?
SO what can we expect in local showbiz this 2010?
For sure, the film industry will continue to be in the doldrums. Despite the success of the current filmfest, people seem to have lost their love for watching movies in theaters and most would rather wait for it on DVD, preferably on cheaper pirated versions and it's obvious the authorities cannot do anything about piracy.
Television will once again rule and it will be a more exciting playing field with the entry of tycoon Manny Pangilinan as the new boss of TV 5. He's determined to make it shine this new year and also threatens to produce films aimed to top the number of movies made by both GMA Films and ABS-Star Cinema, which, of course, is easier said than done.
NEW STARS TO SHINE
SO which stars will shine in 2010? GMA Network is banking on the new teen tandem of Joshua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza who'll have their own primetime series in "First Luv," to replace "Ikaw Sana" on the 6 p.m. slot. They were so cute in the Christmas episode of "Dear Friend" and we won't be surprised if their love team will click with the early teeners crowd.
The love team of Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal is also given their new show on GMA Telebabad, the telefantasya "The Last Prince." We hope it'll be more successful than their past show, "All My Life," and that their popularity will branch out into the movies after their Regal launching flick, "Nandito Ako," was badly affected when its playdate coincided with the “Ondoy” floods.
GMA's resident stars will still get good projects, notably top property Richard Gutierrez who'll soar in the resurrection of "Captain Barbell" which was a big hit before. The love team of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera will be reunited in "Endless Love," which hopefully will rate better than their "Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang" after they showed they can shine solo in "Darna" and "Stairway to Heaven." We're sure they also won't neglect Heart Evangelista who's on a winning streak and give her another good solo project like her "Luna Mystica" that rated well.
On ABS-CBN, they were able to make Jolo Revilla a toprater with "Agimat Presents Tiyagong Akyat", so we're sure they'll also succeed in pushing the career of Coco Martin in "Tonyong Bayawak." Coco's star really shone brighter last year after he nearly stole the show, "Tayong Dalawa," from the Kimerald love team. We're certain he'd win more awards for his performance in the indie film, "Kinatay." Another fresh ABS star who shone last year was Erich Gonzales in "Katorse," so they're giving her another good project in "Tanging Yaman". Will she able to branch out into movies like Kristine Hermosa and Bea Alonzo? We'll find out in 2010. Her ace is that she's not just a part of another love team.
The Kimerald love team will continue to glow with their new soap, "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo," where they're supported by no less than Kris Aquino. They also have a new movie, "Paano Na Kaya," that hopefully will do better at the tills than their previous one, "I've Fallen for You," after the sucess of "Tayong Dalawa."
Other stars who will be given good breaks in 2010 are "Are You the Next Big Star" winner Frencheska Farr, Paolo Avelino, and the Melason love team. Frencheska is given a starring role in the musical directed by Chito Rono, "Emir," filmed in Morocco where she plays the role of an Ifugao maiden who works as a yaya for the son of an Arab sheik. Paolo shone doing supporting roles in "Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin" and "All My Life" and he's ready to go sexy to achieve full stardom. The Melason love team of Melay and Jason in the current “PBB Double Up” is said to have attracted its own followers so we won't be surprised if ABS would build them up later after the reality show ends.
