Oprah bars Charice from having a boyfriend
CHARICE Pempengco is truly making waves as a singer. After a brief but remarkable appearance in the Chipmunks movie, we can say that she has truly arrived as a Hollywood figure.
There are new Hollywood projects coming her way, but she doesn’t want to divulge them as yet as they are “still under negotiation.”
But with showbiz success comes controversies. Back home, she makes us proud as Filipinos. Still, some show lukewarm attitude towards her. Some even love to find fault in her, like what has been tackled in some gossip columns the past few days.
This allegedly concerns her maternal grandmother’s woes. The old woman has expressed disgust over Charice’s current financial set up, which her mom oversees. Charice’s grandma alleges that besides her mom, there is someone who is trying to manipulate them, supposedly the latter’s lover. It pains her, she said, that they are now being sidelined as far as financial considerations are concerned when way back, she played her role to the hilt as the one who supported Charice and her mother.
Some may understand her lola’s woes, but others looked at it differently. “Ganun talaga pag pera na pinag-usapan,” says a kibitzer.
At the presscon for her Valentine concert with Ryan Cayabyab at Rembrandt Hotel yesterday, Charice answered her lola’s allegations. “Sa akin po, okey lang ‘yun,” she said. “Pero si mama po, nasasaktan. Siya po talaga ang nasasaktan dito.”
Meanwhile, Charice displays the same amount of excitement over her local performances. Doing a concert with Mr. C (Ryan) is a dream come true. Titled “Charice in Concert with Ryan Cayabyab,” and presented by Face & Figure, they will have Erik Santos, George Yang, The Ryan Cayabyab Singers and Ogie Alcasid as guests. It will be held on February 14, 8 p.m. at the PICC Plenary Hall.
“She will have duets with Ogie and Erik,” said Mr. C. “She will do “Come What May” with Erik, while she will do “Hanggang Ngayon with Ogie.”
Will she have a special Valentine guest?
“Mama ko po,” she said with a giggle.
When asked if she has secret special someone, Charice simply smiled and said: “Ayaw po ni Mommy Oprah (Winfrey, who pilots her career in the US). Saka na raw po muna.”
