Ruffa Gutierrez's mystery man?
Love was in the air when Ruffa Gutierrez celebrated her birthday last Wednesday, June 30, six days after the actual date (June 24) at the Republiq Bar in Resort World, Pasay City, hosted by Tim Yap and Eric Cua.
Freefrom the “two-timer” John Lloyd Cruz, Ruffa said she’s breathing easier now that a “thorn” has been extracted from her heart (“Nabunutan ako ng tinik” is how she put it). Ruffa’s “ex” shares the same birthday with her (that’s why he’s called John because June 24 is the feast day of St. John).
Was a “mystery man” in the birthday girl’s love life the reason for the big, bright smile on her face?
“He’s around,” Ruffa teased her well-wishers who were curious who the man was. “He looks like James Bond!”
It was hard to spot “who” since most of the male guests looked like James Bond, the theme of the affair being Diamonds Are Forever in Casino Royale. Bond movies starring Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan were shown on giant screens throughout the party.
A foreign-looking guy (who didn’t bear any resemblance to Ruffa’s estranged husband Yilmaz Bektas, not “invited” so I heard) was spotted having fun with Ruffa’s daughters Lorin and Venice, and everybody wondered if he’s “the one,” described by Ruffa as her “bagong ka-bike,” obviously referring to the report that she was seen only a few weeks ago biking in tandem with John Lloyd, which made Shaina Magdayao very jealous. In a recent TV appearance, John Lloyd admitted that he and Shaina are “on,” automatically “erasing” Ruffa from his love life. John Lloyd and Shaina had bought a bike together and it must be the bike John Lloyd was rumored to be riding when seen with Ruffa.
Wearing a royal-blue gown by Jun Escario (the bejewelled “semi-nude” mini dress by Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco wasn’t released on time by the Bureau of Customs), Ruffa was introduced as The Ultimate Bond Girl by her brother Raymond Gutierrez.
Ruffa’s daughters Lorin and Venice beat her in “race” to blow the candles on the birthday cake.
Missing from the affair was Ruffa’s dad Eddie Gutierrez who is on extended vacation in L.A.
Among Ruffa’s well-wishers were Ricky Davao and Mega mag editor Sari Yap. Does the fact that they are now seen together in public confirm the rumor that they are going steady and, in effect, that Ricky and wife Jackie Lou Blanco are living separate lives but still under one roof?
By the way, how old is Ruffa? Clue: She was 19 when she finished Second Princess in the 1993 Miss World pageant.
Said Ruffa, “I decided to hold my party on that date because it was a holiday,” coinciding with the street party at the Elliptical Circle in Quezon City in honor of Pres. Noynoy “P-Noy” Aquino after his inauguration that same morning at the Quirino Grandstand. “So there wasn’t an excuse for my friends not to come.”
