Has Korina Sanchez really Begun Negotiations with TV 5?
The buzz has been heard before but in the world of show business, any persistent rumor will always be scrutinized until the truth is finally revealed. This seems to be the case these days about premiere and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez.
The humming from certain corners about Sanchez jumping fences from ABS-CBN to TV 5 continues and as recent as October 22, a tabloid ran a short update. Apparently from information that slipped from a TV 5 insider, there have already been negotiations between the Kapatid network’s executives and Sanchez.
TV 5, of course, has been aggressive in building up their network and roster of talents and speculations about who is moving where are inevitable. However, the rumors that Sanchez might jump ship have been swirling as far back as August.
On the Media Newser Philippines blog site, a ‘reliable source’ from ABS-CBN had revealed that the TV host/radio anchor might make the transfer. It also reported that Sanchez had wanted to return to “Bandila” but that, according the ABS-CBN News Head Maria Ressa, her leave of absence would not allow for it.
Sanchez, who went on a leave of absence from “Bandila” and DZMM radio show “Tambalang Failon at Sanchez” beginning May 9, 2009, went on to marry then-Senator Mar Roxas. Roxas went on to run as the Liberal Party Vice Presidential bet in the elections last May, for which Sanchez also campaigned.
By July, ABS-CBN reported that Sanchez was having a “series of meetings” with Kapamilya network executives to discuss the next step for her.
“Ready na akong bumalik. It now depends kung ano ang babalikan ko, kung ano ang puwede. Sabi ko ‘Citizen Mar’ naman si Mar ngayon, so I don’t see any reason why I can’t go back to my former platforms,” Sanchez was quoted in the report.
But it was clarified that Sanchez was leaving it up to the ABS-CBN management. “So, kung sensitive sila sa parang hangover from the campaign and the elections, kahit palipasin ‘yon it's really fine with me. I will always be with them so it really all depends on what we talk about,” she told them.
In August this year, a separate source reported of the possibility of Sanchez’ transfer to the Kapatid network “if ABS-CBN doesn’t have major plans for her.”
Sanchez was asked about it and replied that she wasn’t “talking to anyone but ABS-CBN,” and that she was “waiting for their plans for the resumption of my work.”
In this latest update on Sanchez, no further details are revealed. Whether or not this is just the Kapatid network’s way of sending out feelers or there is really truth to the purported negotiations, the fact remains that whichever network Sanchez ends up with, it would certainly benefit from her expertise and track record.
