Jessy Mendiola is new ABS-CBN lead
ABS-CBN continues to launch new stars and their latest bet is Jessy Mendiola who they’re launching in the replacement of “Kokey,” “Sabel,” a remake of the late Joey Gosiengfiao’s 1981 film that’s a take on Elia Kazan’s “Splendor in the Grass,” “Bata Pa si Sabel,” and starred Snooky Serna, Albert Martinez and the late Joel Alano in a young love triangle story.
Jessy was introduced four years ago as a member of Star Magic Batch 15 and was first noticed in “Your Song Present Boystown” and “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.” She was given her biggest break in “Gimik 2010.” “It’s worth the long wait,” she says. “And I’d like to thank ABS-CBN for entrusting me this very challenging role of ‘Sabel.’ I promise to give my all nang di ako mapahiya sa pagtitiwala nila sa’kin.”
She’s paired with AJ Perez and Joseph Marco. AJ was with her in “Boystown.”
“I really enjoyed working with Jessy before kasi kahit puro lalaki kami sa cast, nakakasabay siya at magaling makisama,” says AJ. “So when I learned I’d help launch her in ‘Sabel,’ I got really excited at gusto ko mag-umpisa na agad ang taping.”
Joseph is a commercial model and he’s elated to be part of a primetime show like “Sabel.” “I’m proud to be a Kapamilya at first teleserye ko, primetime pa,” he says. “Sa taping, I’m learning a lot from our senior co-stars who really help me interpret my role well.”
Supporting them are Rita Avila, Daria Ramirez, Tommy Abuel, Glydel Mercado, Ron Morales, and the comebacking Raymond Bagatsing, directed by Don Cuaresma.
“Sabel” starts airing on Monday.
