From "ABS-CBN Broadcasting Cor­poration" to just "ABS-CBN Corporation"

Muli na namang kinilala ng Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) ang ABS-CBN bilang isa sa pina­kamahusay na kumpanya sa taong 2009 pagda­ting sa corporate governance at compliance prac­tices.

Ang ABS-CBN, na tanging multimedia company na nakuha ang parangal sa dalawang magka­sunod na taon, ay isa sa 30 kumpanya na naka­kamit ng pinakamataas na score kapantay ng pan­daigdigang pamantayan.

Layunin ng taunang event na itaguyod ang trans­parency, pananagutan, at maayos na pama­malakad ng kumpanya sa lahat ng publicly-listed com­panies sa Pilipinas. Iba’t ibang korporasyon mula sa iba’t ibang sektor ang sinuri at binigyan ng score base sa karapatan at karampatang paki­kitu­ngo sa mga shareholders, papel ng mga stake­holders, pagsisiwalat at trans­pa­rency, at respon­sibilidad ng mga board members ng kumpanya.

Ang ICD ay isinagawa ang Corporate Gover­nance Scorecard sa tulong ng Securities and Ex­change Commission, the Philippine Stock Ex­change, at Ateneo School of Law.

Kamakailan ay pinalitan ng ABS-CBN ang pangalan nito mula ABS-CBN Broadcasting Cor­poration ng ABS-CBN Corporation para sumalamin sa patu­loy na paglago ng kumpanya mula sa pagiging broadcasting network hang­gang sa pagiging isang multimedia conglomerate.

“Nais namin na maalala ng publiko ang ABS-CBN hindi lang bilang isang broad­casting compa­ny. Sa mga nagdaang taon, kami ay gumagamit ng iba pang media platforms bukod sa broadcas­ting,” sabi ni ABS-CBN Chairman at CEO Eugenio Lopez II sa kakatapos lamang na taunang stockholders meeting.

Box-Office Entertainment Awards: John Lloyd, Sarah named Box-office King & Queen

John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo are again this year’s Box-Office King and Queen and they are being awarded for the huge success at the tills of their 2009 romantic comedy You Changed My Life (from Viva Films and Star Cinema). Last year, they also won the same titles for A Very Special Love, 2008’s monster hit.

The Box-Office King and Queen honors are given annually by the Box-Office Entertainment Awards of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. to movie stars whose films earned the most money for the past year. This award-giving body was named after the late Bocaue mayor Guillermo Mendoza and the foundation helps send poor, but deserving students to school. Mrs. Corazon Samaniego, Mendoza’s daughter, is the current head of the organization and it is her mission to realize her father’s dream of giving indigent students in the province of Bulacan proper education.

Aside from films, the Box-Office Entertainment Awards group also honors popular achievements on television and in the music scene.

For this year, it is actually a double victory for John Lloyd because he also gets to bring home the Film Actor of the Year trophy for You Changed My Life and In My Life, both of which were certified box-office hits. (This award is given to movie stars after weighing quality of performance and the film’s take at the tills.) His co-star in the film In My Life, Vilma Santos, was selected Film Actress of the Year. Vilma was also voted Best Actress by other award-giving bodies for the same movie.

The Eraserheads Reunion Concert at the Mall of Asia that saw an attendance of 120,000 people is also being cited as the Record Breaker of the Year.

The 2010 Box-Office Entertainment Awards is being produced by Tessie Celestino-Howard of Airtime Marketing, Inc. and will be telecast on June 27 on ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best.

Graceful exit for Willie Revillame?

IT seems the official ABS statement about Willie Revillame has confused some writers. Well, to begin with, some parts are really ambiguous.

One writer interpreted it as an assurance that Willie will return to “Wowowee” since it says "Wowowee will continue to provide entertainment and inspiration to Filipinos worldwide. He opines: "Kasi, Willie is “Wowowee” and vice versa, so that means he'll continue to provide entertainment and inspiration."

Another writer thinks the statement says it means Willie is fired for good and this is what will be discussed "in the best interest of the viewing public" who have expressed in polls that they don't want to see him back in ABS. The indefinite leave is just a way of giving him a graceful exit. After all, in a Facebook page, 303,244 people already voted that "Let Willie resign." Before, ABS always backed up Willie even during the Ultra tragedy, the Wilyonaryo cheating incident and his outburst against the Cory funeral, but this time, it seems "napuno na rin ang salop."

Too bad for Willie Revillame. He's not in a position to feel high and mighty with ABS-CBN after he arrogantly ordered them to fire Jobert Sucaldito or he'll resign. It's just been proven that he's not really that an effective endorser. His presidential bet lost and many folks are even saying Manny Villar only lost more votes because people feel antagonistic towards Willie. Second, the ratings of "Wowowee" soared even higher without him, such that it's now regularly beating up "Eat Bulaga" in the ratings game so "Eat Bulaga" has reason to be alarmed. Third, everyone is saying Robin Padilla is a better host than him, not "bastos."

Fourth, all polls conducted by various venues, including ABS itself, unanimously called for ABS-CBN to kick Willie out of the show. In other words, all cards are stacked against him so he has no choice but to abide by ABS decision's for him to take a leave of absence. He cannot appear anywhere else as he still has a contract with ABS. In effect, he's being suspended. And he also has reason to be alarmed. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind.

KINILIG ang dalaga ni Megastar Sharon Cuneta na si KC Concepcion nang da-lawain ni Robin Padilla sa kanyang show na Simply KC nu’ng Miyerkules.

Guest ni KC si Pokwang nang biglang sumulpot ang action star sa programa.

Nagulat si KC sa pag-apir ng lalaking dating nagkaroon ng kaugnayan sa kanyang ina. Tuwang-tuwa naman si Pokwang na hindi itinatago ang pagka-crush kay Robin lalung-lalo na kapag nasa Wowowee sila.

Hinalikan ni Binoe ang kamay ni KC, tanda ng pagbati sa kanya na sobrang ikinakilig ng dalaga.

“Kung hindi lang muntik na kitang naging tatay,” say ni KC, na ikinatuwa ng mga nasa loob ng studio.

Dati kasing naging boyfriend ni Sharon si Binoe noong maliit pa si KC.

Pero inamin ng aktres na sa lahat ng mga naging boyfriend ng kanyang ina, “Si Robin po ang major crush ko noon.”

Naku, Binoe, hindi kaya bumalik sa ‘yo ang nakaraan?

Charice Joins Glee Cast

The Philippines' pride, international pop star Charice Pempengco, will soon join the cast of the award-winning American musical comedy-drama TV series "Glee."

In a TV interview at her Glorietta show on May 23, Pempengco herself hinted at "a surprise" that will surely make her fans happy. "Basta in na in posiyangayon," she said.

The quote set off the Internet abuzz with rumors, which zeroed in on the possibility of Pempengco appearing on "Glee" because the show's theme and the cast's age group fits her.

"Yes, it's true, Charice will soon join "Glee," her Philippine manager, Grace Mendoza, confirmed to the Inquirer. "And not just as a guest, but as part of the cast in a new season."

The popular TV show won the 2010 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Pempengco's joining the "Glee" cast comes on the heels of her most recent triumph as the first Asian to break into the Top 10 of the Billboard album chart. Her self-titled US CD has debuted at No. 8 in its first week of release, selling 43,000 copies in America alone.

The album is at No. 4 in the Canadian music chart.

EJay Falcon ‘kinasusuklaman’ ang amang foreigner

NAIMBITAHAN kaming manood ng ASAP XV last Sunday at bago kami pumasok sa loob ng studio, nakatsikahan namin si EJay Falcon, isa sa Star Magic talents.

Matapang na naikuwento ni EJay na British national ang tunay na ama pero hindi na niya nakita magmula nu’ng isilang siya hanggang ngayon.

Willie Revillame hihingi ng tawad sa ABS-CBN

Natuloy din kahapon ang naudlot na closed-door meeting sa pagitan ng kontrobersyal Wowowee host na si Willie Revillame at ng big boss niya sa ABS-CBN na si Gabby Lopez.

Kaso, ngayong Miyerkules pa lang malalaman ang opisyal na desisyon kung “in” pa rin o “out” na ito sa Kapamilya network.

Ayon sa isang source, ginawa ang pag-uusap sa isang undisclosed place sa Makati.

Kung hindi kami nagkakamali, bandang alas-singko ng hapon ini-schedule ang meeting at habang isinusulat ang item na ito, ongoing pa rin ang pag-uusap.

Nu’ng una’y dalawa lang daw dapat sina Gabby at Willie na mag-uusap, pero ipinasama na rin ng una ang ABS-CBN prexy na si Charo Santos-Concio.

Ang suspetsa ng aming source, ang napagkayarian ay hihingi ng tawad on-air si Willie sa management ng Dos. Mas malamang na hindi sa mismong studio ng Wowowee ito gawin, kung saan unang hinamon ni Willie ang management na sibakin ang naninira raw sa kanyang si Jobert Sucaldito kung hindi, eh, siya ang magre-resign.

Sa ibang venue raw ilalabas ang public apology, maaaring sa newscast na TV Patrol World, maaari ring hindi. Hindi raw sa Wowowee gagawin ang paghingi ng tawad dahil ito’y venue raw ng pagpapasaya sa mga tao.

“Ngayong araw pa lang talaga aayusin ang iba pang details,” dagdag ng source.

Nag-wish pa nga ito na mapagbati sina Willie at Jobert bago man lang niya iwan ang Wowowee.

Pero nang makausap namin si Jobert kahapon, sinabi nitong although naa-appreciate niya ang wish at kabaitan ni Robin, hindi raw niya feel ang plinanong pagbabati. Mas type raw ni Jobert na magkaayos sila ni Willie sa tamang panahon.

Dinala sa ospital si People's Champ Manny Pacquiao kanina. Ayon sa kanyang chief of staff na si Jayke Joson, kahapon pa dumadaing ng sakit ng tiyan si Pacman pero lumalala na ito kanina. Ayon kay Joson, maaring sanhi ito ng madalas na hindi niya pagkain sa oras lalo na noong panahon ng kampanya. Hindi naman daw seryoso ang kondisyon ni Pacquiao na nagpapahinga na ngayon.

Shalani Soledad, Kris Aquino Interview

Valenzuela 2nd District Councilor Shalani Soledad has opened up about her more than a year relationship with winning presidential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Soledad, 30, was interviewed exclusively by Noynoy’s youngest sister, Kris. During the interview, she shared details about their first meeting as well as her thoughts on her 50-year-old boyfriend’s remarks that marriage is not his priority right now.

The interview was aired on “The Buzz” Sunday.

Below is Kris’s full interview with Soledad.

Kris (K): Umpisahan natin from the very, very beginning. April 27, 1980, 'yon ang birthday mo. Ano ang type of family 'yong nakagisnan mo?

Shalani (S): Close ako sa mga relatives ko. Uncle ko, tita ko, cousins ko and lalo na sa brother ko.

K: How many years older sa'yo ang brother mo?
S: Three years. I'm the youngest. Dalawa lang kami.

K: Nabanggit mo lahat ng mga relatives, hindi mo na-mention ang mommy mo.
S: Because was my mom was working abroad for almost 20 years. Tapos once a year lang siya umuuwi like 2 months.

K: Saan siya nagwo-work?
S: 'Yong last ni mommy was in Kuwait.

K: Middle East.
S: Yes.

K: Naka-ilang years siya doon?
S: Sa Middle East, almost 20 years.

K: So, sino ang nag-alaga talaga sa iyo?
S: Lolo and lola ko sa mother side ko.

K: You can choose to answer this or not pero saan 'yong father along the way?
S: Hiwalay kasi sila ng mommy ko. Since I was small, hiwalay na sila.

K: Did you know him at least or did you have a relationship?
S: There was really no relationship but yes, I know him. Kasi magkaaway sila ng mommy ko.

K: Were you a good student?
S: Average. I was not on the top.

K: Anong hilig mo? Like high school, doon ka magjo-join ng kung anu-anong mga club, groups?
S: My club was religious club. (Laughs). Kami 'yong taga-dasal, actually. Praying plus teaching the younger class ng mga Bible stories. And drama club, actually.

K: Punta na tayo sa college.
S: College, I took up human resource management at CSE. I still have my PE class, actually.

K: Bakit hindi mo ginawa ang PE?
S: Because I ran for councilor already so naiwan. Hindi ko na nabalikan.

Public service

K: Saan nanggaling ang hilig sa pulitika?
S: I guess, it's my love for people. Kasi 'yong mom ko lahat sila into government service pero walang elective post. Ako 'yong first sa family namin to have an elective post.

K: Why did you feel na ito 'yong tamang landas na tahakin mo?
S: Dito ko naramdaman 'yong sinasabi nilang fulfillment. Meron pala 'yon. Dati akala ko showbiz at cliche pag sinasabi na may sense of fulfillment... Kasi in spite of hirap, 'yong pagod, kapag nakikita mong nakakatulong ka and people appreciate that; pag nag-tha-thank you sa'yo, ang sarap sarap ng feeling.

K: You did work for Senator Lacson?
S: During 2002-2003.

K: Was he a senator then? Pero hindi pa kayo nagtagpo ng landas ni Noy kasi 2007 siya na-elect na senator?
S: Yes.

Love story

K: Ito na ang gustong marinig ng lahat, paano ba kayo nag-meet?
S: 'Yong first was during 2005. I was then with UNTelevision. I was covering 2005 SONA. Reporter. We did that interview with Noy. My question was it was not something about the SONA, it was something about you. So, ang sabi ni Noy, 'My sister is old enough to answer those questions.'

K: Pero kailan kayo nagkakilala ulit?
S: 2008. Alfredo's. Kasama ko ang vice mayor ko and then at the same time nandoon din sina Noy and then afterwards nagpa-picture kami kay Noy.

K: And then?
S: Sabi ni Noy, 'I am the chair of the local government committee. Baka mayroon kayong amendments na you would want to introduce. Let me know.'

K: Binigay niya 'yong number niya sa'yo?
S: Hindi, kinuha nila ang numbers namin. Across Alfredo's, merong coffee house so nauna sina Noy. So after a few minutes, nag-ring 'yong phone ng vice mayor namin, ini-invite daw kami ni Noy mag-coffee. (Laughs)

K: I'm sure hindi naman si vice mayor ang gusto niyang maka-kape. Tapos?
S: That time, nag-cross kami. When we got there, nandoon 'yong staff niya.

K: And you realize now that Noy doesn't even drink coffee?
S: Yes.

K: Tumabi ka naman sa kanya?
S: No, we were seated across and then kinukwento niya na 20 years ago na mayroong coup tapos 3 of his PSGs were gunned down. Sabi niya it's a miracle na nabuhay daw siya. So, sabi ko naman sa kanya na, "Senator, baka hindi mo pa talaga time.' Ang sabi niya, 'Oo nga, dahil 20 years after makikilala pala kita.'

K: Kadiri ha, Noy. Gross. (Laughs). Hindi ko kaya! I thought I was the baduy one in the family. Kinabog ako ni Noy sa linyang 'yon. Do you remember what day it was? 'Yong exact date?
S: Yes. July 28.

K: Ano 'yong first date ninyo? Alam ko nanood kayo ng movie ni KC (Concepcion) at ni Richard Gutierrez? For the First Time?
S: Yes.
K: Movie ko na nga sapilitan pang manood 'yon. So, sinamahan ka niyang manood?
S: Oo. Pero first and last na daw 'yon.

K: May anniversary ba kayo?
S: Yes. Sept. 5, [2008].

K: What were the signs na ito na, this is it?
S: Kinikilig ako. With Noy, from previous relationships, parang na-realize mo na kung ano ang gusto mo. And you would want someone na honest sa'yo, 'yong totoo, 'yong hindi ka binobola lang.

K: One year, 8 months na kayo. Matagal na 'yon ha for Noy. (Laughs).

Meeting the family

K: Anong na-feel mo noong una mo kaming nakilala?
S: Si Noy afterwards, tinatanong niya ako, 'So, how was it?' Ang tinatanong niya more on sa mommy ninyo. So, sabi ko, 'Noy, actually na-starstruck ako hindi sa mommy mo, kay Kris.' So, tawa lang siya ng tawa.

K: Kailan bago mo siya pinakilala sa mommy mo?
S: Si Noy kasi nanliligaw pumupunta siya sa bahay.

K: Hindi ba nag-alangan ang mommy mo na halos ka-edad niya si Noy?
S: Ang apprehension ng mommy ko was... sinasabi niya sa akin 'to na, 'Anak, senator yan nakakasama ninyo.' Kasi baka we seemed to forget daw na dahil nakakasama namin si Noy, almost every night kasama naming mag-dinner out. Sabi ng mom ko, 'Anak, hindi tayo mayaman. Baka hanapan ka or singilin ka.' Baka daw api-apihin ako. Sabi ng mommy ko.

K: Me?
S: No naman. Sabi ng mom ko, 'You know, Noy being an Aquino. Very prominent ang family.'

K: I hate to bring this up because it means I know too much but noong time na medyo my mom was nearly dying na, I think you went through a rocky point of your relationship. Tama ba ako? Nahirapan ka bang ilagay ang sarili mo kung saan ka dapat ilalagay?
S: In a way. Because siyempre alam ko na masakit kay Noy. At the same time, I wanted to be there for him pero...

K: Paano mo titimbangin kung saan ka lu-lugar?
S:Yes.

K: Para at least finally na-tackle at alam na ng buong mundo. Di ba kaya ako nagalit sa'yo kasi dinedma mo si Noy? The way I heard the story parang 8 hours siyang nagtext at nag-miss call tapos parang ang tagal bago ka naka-reply.
S: No. Walang 8 hours. Matagal na siguro 1 hour and a half pero wala namang 8 hours.

K: Pero do you also realize na he's also the type na minsan ite-text mo and then 14 hours or 24 hours ang sagot?
S: Si Noy?
K: Oo, sa akin. Sa'yo, hindi naman?
S: Nagre-reply.
K: Iba ang girlfriend, iba ang sister.

Deep commitment

K: Doon na tayo sa nag-iba na. Yong tumakbo sa presidency that's why sinabi ko 'yon sa The Buzz. Sinabi ko na appreciative kami kasi marami kang napuntahan na mismo kami hindi na namin napuntahan at nagawa sa kanya. Kung tatanungin kita, why did you do it?
S: I believe in him, No. 1. And second I wanted to be of help also to Noy.

K: Pero, thoughtful naman siya as far as being a boyfriend is concerned?
S: Thoughtful si Noy in a sense na sa birthdays, special occassions at kung ano ang nagiging need mo, ina-anticipate na niya.

K: Anong stage na kayo sa relationship ninyo?
S: It's a deep commitment pero at this point kasi parang napakalaki noong task na haharapin ni Noy. So, ang focus talaga should be on the task ahead of him kasi ang hirap.

K: Tatanunging kita, 30 ka ngayon. Are you ready to wait 6 years?
S: I hope.

K: Kasi ilang times na inulit na ni Noy na within his term na parang hindi niya nakikita na he would be settling down. Na-hurt ka ba noong narinig mo 'yon?
S: In a way. Siyempre ako I'm looking forward kasi when you're in a relationship you're looking forward long term. Since mahal mo you would support what he wants and what he needs.

K: Hindi mo naisip 'yon na baka sa kakahintay mo, hindi kayo magka-baby, hindi kayo magka-family nang sa inyo?
S: Ako kasi I just pray. Kasi when you are in a relationship you just hope na it would be better. Siyempre, long term, di ba? Let's see. Kasi hangga't mahal mo ang tao, maghihintay ka.

Dear Sir Gabby and Ma’am Charo,

I have labored over the past week on what to do in the face of another setback in my relations with the management of the network. ABS-CBN has been my home for the last five years and five months and it has given me the greatest gift – the opportunity to reach out to people who have so little in life.

In the process, I have come to realize that my gratitude to the network would be more meaningful if I considered the impact of my recent actions which has placed the station in a bad light. This is among the reasons, as I will explain in this letter, that I humbly request the management, to release me as a talent of the network. (Willie’s contract is good for one year and a half more. — RFL)

It is no secret that the program “Wowowee,” for almost five and a half years, has been the core of my existence. The program gives me a sense of purpose because I make people happy and I give them hope that, despite their difficulties, they can make things happen for themselves. Because of this, my world has revolved around the show. The desire to make it the best noontime show, has consumed my waking hours, as I conceptualize its format and contents from Monday to Saturday. Apart from this, I want the show to give the network excellent ratings to maintain its reputation as the leader in the broadcasting industry.

My devotion to the show is unparalleled that I have even been besieged by health problems due to the long hours I spend daily, thinking of how to bring “Wowowee” closer to the public. In fact, I have developed a heart blockage, which has already once posed a real threat to my life. I have sacrificed so much. Now, I have to accept the reality that I also have to take good care of my health.

Hence, it is very painful to hear every time my show is the target of unwanted and unnecessary tirades. I do not think that these people even have the slightest clue of what I go through to put together a show like “Wowowee”’. The show is not for me, but for those people who dream of a better life. Is it too much to ask that we be respected for what we do? Is it too much to ask that we be defended from such attacks?

My outburst last week during the live presentation of the show is nothing more than a reflection of my frustration over these things, and was not at all meant to disrespect the network and its management. I implore you to understand that several incidents, which were beyond my control which have marred the reputation of the show to some extent, have already taken their toll on me.

There was the “Wilyonaryo” incident wherein we were accused of deceiving contestants about their winnings; the Ultra stampede wherein I was blamed and severely criticized; the misunderstanding about my remarks when the coverage of the funeral of the late Pres. Corazon Aquino was unexpectedly shown in the giling-giling portion of “Wowowee”’s airing, for which I have apologized. In all these incidents, I took responsibility even if I was not at fault.

I do not want to cause any further embarrassment to the network. I know that all these have caused so much strain on our relations and I would like to save the situation by asking that I be released as a talent of the station. This way, I will have the much-needed space and time to contemplate on my direction in life and, at the same time, maintain the relationships I have built within the network, which are all worth preserving.

Before I end this letter, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to all the important people I have had the good fortune to work with during the years I have been with ABS-CBN. Ma’am Charo, maraming salamat sa lahat ng pagkakataon na naibigay ninyo sa akin. Kayo po ang tinuturing kong ina na patuloy akong tinatanggap at minamahal sa kabila ng lahat ng aking kahinaan. Hinding-hindi ko po kayo makakalimutan at lahat ng mga bagay na ginawa ninyo para sa akin.

Higit sa lahat, sa lahat ng mga taong sumuporta at patulong na sumusuporta sa show na “Wowowee,” maraming salamat at kayo ang nagbibigay sa akin ng lakas na gawin ang mga dapat kong gawin. Sana po ay maunawaan ninyo ang aking kahilingan sa sulat na ito. Ayaw ko na pong may masasaktan pa at gusto ko lang na maisaayos lahat. Taos-puso akong humihingi sa inyo ng tawad at lubos na pang-unawa sa lahat ng pinagdadaanan ko ngayon.

PBB Teen James Reid Hospitalized

“Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010” teen-ternational housemate James Reid was rushed to a hospital due to discomfort in breathing and chest pains Friday morning. Doctors diagnosed James with costrochondritis muscle pains in the rib/chest area.

As of press time, James is undergoing further medical tests and waiting for his attending physician’s clearance to return to PBB. James is given 24 hours from the time of his exit to return, if not, he will be forcibly evicted.

Meanwhile, the rest of the teen housemates are still adjusting to living under the same roof. Though they only have impressions of each other, some Pinoy and teen-ternational housemates are beginning to feel attraction with each other like Tricia and James, Yen and Jack, and Fretzie and Bret.

Likewise, if there is attraction, there is also repulsion as in the case of Patrick and Bret, who both like Fretzie. There’s also Joe who feels his crush Yen is being drawn to Jack’s charms.

There is tension among Pinoy housemates too as they all choose to be in Devon’s birthday party. The other birthday girl, Tricia, only had teen-ternational housemates James, Jenny, Ann, Richard, and Jack joining her in her masquerade party.

Four out of eight nominated housemates will be leaving the house via eviction this coming Saturday (May 22). Who among Richard, Sophia, Carson, Angelo, Kazel, Ivan, Tricia, and Yen will receive the lowest percentage of votes and get evicted. KC Concepcion nagkaliskis ng isda sa palengke

Maraming ginawang kakaiba si KC Concepcion para sa kanyang bagong talk show, Simply KC sa ABS-CBN na hindi niya ginagawa noon.

Nagpunta sa palengke, nagkaliskis ng isda habang nagbebenta kasama si Jericho Rosales (susuyurin nina ni KC at Jericho ang palengke habang ibina­bahagi ng aktor ang mga diskarte tips na kanyang natutunan ng mga panahong siya ay nagtatrabaho pa bilang tindero at kargador sa Concepcion Market sa Marikina), nag-biking kasama si John Lloyd Cruz na inamin niyang noon lang tumibok ng ganun ang puso niya nang makaharap niya ang aktor (sasamahan si KC ng pinakamainit na leading man sa showbiz na si John Lloyd at sabay nilang babaybayin ang malubak na daan at magte-trail biking.)

Hahamunin naman ng magkapatid na Luis Manzano at Ryan Christian Recto ang mega daughter na lumahok sa kanilang paboritong bonding activity - ang Muai Thai kickboxing.

Magsasanib puwersa naman ang parehong lolo at lola’s girl na si KC at Mariel Rodriguez at pag-uusapan ang kanilang paglaki sa piling ng mahal nilang mga lolo at lola habang maglalabasan naman ng sikreto pagdating sa pag-ibig ni KC at ang komedyanang si Pokwang.

Sasabak din si KC sa mga sariling hamon tulad ng pagsakay ng LRT sa unang pagkakataon at paggupit ng buhok ng ilang mga lola sa Golden Acres.

Ang impression ng marami, aabante ng oras ng Showtime at ang programa ni KC ang papalit sa inookopa nitong oras. Pero mali. Mas maaga itong mangangalampag sa ating tahanan, 9:45 a.m.

Tanong ni Lola E sa presscon ng programa, “Paano naging Simply KC ang title ng programa samantalang anak ka ni Megastar Sharon Cuneta, Senador ang papa mo at actor ang daddy mo. Ano na lang ang tawag sa ordinaryong tao na tulad namin?”

Mabilis ang sagot ni KC. “Tao lang din po ako. Simple at totoo ang pinagda­daanan ko katulad ng mga pinagdadaanan ng totoong tao.”

Kapag wala na raw ang ilaw at wala na ang camera, makikilala ang isang dalagang simple, totoo, at katulad din lang pala ng iba na si KC na mangyayari nga sa kanyang programa.

“Excited talaga ako sa mga pagdadaanan ko sa programang ito kasama ang aking mga guest at siyempre kasama ang mga manonood. Marami tayong pupuntahan, maraming makikilala, at siyempre marami tayong matutunan ng magkakasama,” sabi ni KC.

Nakapila na ang nababalitang boyfriend niyang si Piolo Pascual sa programa. Umoo na raw ang aktor pero hindi pa nakukunan ang episode nila.

Kung siya ang tatanungin, gusto niyang makasama sa show sina Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino, (Papa) Gabby Concepcion and (Mama) Sharon Cuneta, Angel Locsin and Toni Gonzaga. Sa kanyang mga ex, si Direk Lino Cayetano ang gusto niyang maka-tsikahan.

Sa issue naman na bakit binigyan siya ng sariling talk show eh hindi pa naman daw siya hinog sa pagho-host. “Matagal na po akong nagho-host. Seventeen years old pa lang, nagho-host na ako sa MTV. Two years akong nag-host. Baka hindi nila napapanood ang show ko noon,” sagot ng anak ni Mega.

Ginagawan ng intriga ang kanyang show lala na ng mga fans ni Toni G. Bakit daw si KC ang nagka-talk show samantalang mas beterana naman ang kanilang idolo.

“Ang dami na po nilang project. Hindi na siguro nila kakayanin kung magta-trabaho pa sila pati sa umaga. They are my friends and I admire them,” sagot niya tungkol sa issue na hindi ko alam kung sino pa ang minamanok ng fans na naunahan ni KC.

Colby Montero likes Angel Locsin

Mahilig sa Pinay ang Montero brothers dahil after Troy at KC Montero na parehong nakapag-asawa ng Filipina (hiwalay nga lang sina KC at Geneva Cruz), ang kapatid naman nilang si Colby Montero ang tila in-love kay Angel Locsin.

Nasa bansa ngayon si Colby at sa radio show ni KC, naririnig siyang binabasa ang Angel poems niya na para kay Angel. Na-interview na rin sa TV Patrol ng ABS-CBN ang binata tungkol sa on the air na panunuyo niya kay Angel.

Ang cute pa, tinutulungan si Colby ni KC at mga kaibigan nito na maiparating kay Angel ang kanyang feelings. Ang alam namin single si Angel ngayon, bakit nga ba hindi siya tuluyang ligawan ni Colby?

Charice CD zooms to No. 8 in Billboard 200

Yes, Edmund Silvestre (of the New York-based The Filipino Reporter, Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent), I and everybody else I’m sure know by now that Charice’s eponymous debut CD is making big waves in the US and is now No. 8 on Billboard 200 — and climbing fast — having sold more than 43,000 copies so far.

“It’s really an impressive debut for a newcomer like Charice,” said Edmund. “She’s all over the Internet and mainstream newspapers and music magazines on both coasts. Thanks, of course, to Oprah’s magic and faith in the Pinay performer, and David Foster’s determination to build Charice up, as well as Charice’s remarkable talent and apparent unjadedness.”

Edmund noted, and I agree with him, how amazing it is that Charice remains unaffected by all the accolades and attention (and even intrigues and criticisms hurled against her especially in her native country).

Added Edmund, “I heard both David and Oprah have also been coaching Charice on how to handle fame and protect herself from the media’s prying eyes and public scrutiny. Let’s just hope Charice’s success in the US will finally open the mainstream doors for more Filipino belters and balladeers. Aiza Seguerra - International Artist

MOST child stars fade into oblivion when they grow up so Aiza Seguerra is so thankful that she's still very much active in showbiz mainly as a singer. If she became a teen actress, would she have also come out about her sexual preference? "I think so," she says. "Noon pa naman, kita nang hindi ako girl. Imagine, nang mag-church wedding ang parents ko, ako ang ring bearer. May girl bang ganun? At saka hindi rin ako makakatagal kasi noong pine-pair ako kay Spencer Reyes, nanghihilakbot ako tuwing hahawakan niya ko."

She's grateful that the public has accepted her sexual orientation. She and her girlfriend Chen have been on for six years now. "Ang dami talagang blessings na dapat kong ipagpasalamat. Tulad nitong chance to sing and release my album in Singapore and various other Asian countries. Hindi ko naman hiningi ito pero kusang binigay ni Lord."

Her first album, "Open Arms, Asian Edition" is certified platinum. It was also released in Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. The reception is great so she's now releasing her second Asian album, "Perhaps Love," launched at Odyssey Megamall last Tuesday and in "ASAP" this Sunday. "All the songs here are for easy listening, which is what the Singapore record execs want. Balikang Angel Locsin, Luis Manzano may linaw na

Pinupuri ni Cristy Fermin ang star for all season dahil sa muli nitong pagkakapanalo bilang gobernadora ng Batangas.

Sa ipinakitang interview ni Cristy kay Vi ay naita-nong ang tungkol sa lovelife ng kanyang eldest son na si Luiz Manzano at Angel Locsin.

Ayon kay Vi, kung tung-kol sa lovelife ng anak ang pag-uusapan ay wala siyang alam. Hindi naman daw kasi siya nagtatanong kay Lucky tungkol sa mga personal na ginagawa nito. Kinukumusta na lang daw niya ito na sasagutin naman daw ni Luis ng “I’m okay.”

Pero, marami ang nagulat nang i-reveal ni Alfie na si Ate Vi daw ang dahilan kung bakit nagkahiwalay sina Luis at Angel.

Ayon sa batikang manu-nulat, nainsulto si Vi nang sa-bihin ni Angel na si Nora Aunor ang greatest actress of all time. Sinabi ito ni Angel nang basahin niya ang linya sa role ni Ate Guy sa Himala sa launching ng libro ni Ricky Lee. Simula raw noon ay kinainitan na ni Vi ang relasyon ng kanyang anak sa magandang aktres at pinagsabihan daw si Luis na i-break na si Angel.

In fairness naman kay Vi, hindi niya magagawa ang ganoong bagay na manduhan ang anak. Matatanda na sila sa mga bagay tulad ng pag-aaway-away ng Vilma at Nora fans.

Very vocal ang star for all seasons na boto siya kay Angel para kay Luis. Katu-nayan, sa mga special occasion noong maganda pa ang relasyon ng young couples ay laging kasama ng pamilya si Angel.

Ang napabalitang talagang dahilan ng paghihiwalay nina Luis at Angel ay ang pa-giging malapit ng actor sa mga babae, na hindi naman ina-amin ni Luis.

Sa ngayon ay muling na-ging malapit sa isa’t isa ang young couple.

Aminado pa nga si Luis na gusto niyang balikan si Angel dahil nasa magandang dalaga raw ang lahat ng hinahanap niya sa isang babae.

Aminado naman si Angel na muling nagkakalapit ang loob nila ni Luis, pero hindi pa rin daw sila dumarating sa level na nagkabalikan na.

Kris Aquino leaving hosting jobs for good?

A day after announcing that she will be leaving some of her entertainment shows on ABS-CBN by end-June, Kris Aquino hinted on Wednesday that she would not be returning to her hosting jobs.

Apparently, the 39-year-old celebrity considers her age as a factor.

“Pagkatapos ng term ni Noy (brother Benigno Aquino III), 45 years old na ko,” she explained on Wednesday.

“Ang tanda ko na, so parang feeling ko hindi ata bagay talaga,” she added in her response to a query on whether she will return to her talk shows.

Kris is the youngest sibling of the leading presidential aspirant in the May 10 polls. Based on latest vote tally of the elections body, “Noynoy” Aquino has garnered over 14 million votes, giving him a comfortable margin over other candidates for the country’s top post.

The winning presidential candidate will be taking oath on June 30, the start of a 6-year term.

Kris had said she is willing to make sacrifices in her lucrative show business career to help her brother fulfill his campaign promises.

On Tuesday late evening, she announced that she is leaving two celebrity shows on ABS-CBN—the hit Sunday afternoon show, The Buzz, and weekday late night celebrity talk show, SNN:Showbiz News Ngayon. She explained that she would like to spare her brother from criticisms if she makes comments on these shows that could be misinterpreted.

Aquino III had to defend his sister, who has lived a controversial and very public love life, several times in the past. Recently, he defended her when tens of thousands of Facebook users put up a page calling for her to make good a supposed promise to leave the country should he win in the elections.

“I welcome the changes in my life. Of course, nalulungkot ako,” she said on Wednesday.

Talk shows

Kris’ 11-year hosting stint on The Buzz has been interrupted twice.

In 2007, she officially left the top-rated showbiz oriented Sunday show after giving birth to Baby James, her second son and her first child with husband James Yap. She returned in October 2008 when Cristy Fermin, the co-host Kris reportedly preferred not to work with, was suspended by the network.

Kris currently hosts The Buzz with close friend Boy Abunda and new co-host KC Conception.

She also took a 2-month leave this year to join the nationwide campaign sorties of her Aquino III.

After her leave, she also returned to her late night live show SNN, which she has been hosting since its inception in 2009.

Kris shifted from movies to television talk shows in the 1990’s. Her hosting wit helped propel her into various stints, ranging from game shows to news magazine and showbiz-oriented talk shows.

Age a factor?

Several popular talk show hosts, including Oprah Winfrey, are well beyond their 40’s.

Winfrey has been hosting the blockbuster Oprah Winfrey Show for the past 24 years. She has since built an empire that includes a production company, satellite radio show, a magazine, and a broadway musical.

Winfrey is 56.

Kris first talk show, Today with Kris Aquino, was considered the Philippine version of Winfrey’s show.

It was in this local show, which aired from 1996 to 2001, that Kris earned her title as Philippines’ Queen of Talk.

She would eventually be considered the Queen of all Media for her success in different media like television, film, recording, publishing, as well as product endorsements.

Kris Aquino is, indeed, leaving soon...

Kris has already explained in a Funfare “scoop” that what she said was if she would be a hindrance to Noynoy’s presidency (kung magiging pabigat siya kay Noynoy), and President-apparent Noynoy has told Kris to stop the kadramahan already and again said recently that Kris has no reason to leave the country since she hasn’t committed a crime against it or against anybody. Period.

But, yes, Kris is, indeed, leaving very soon — not the country but as host of the ABS-CBN talkshow The Buzz (which she co-hosts with Boy Abunda and KC Concepcion) and the late-night showbiz newscast SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon).

As she announced on The Buzz last Sunday, Kris had a lunch meeting yesterday with ABS-CBN big bosses Gabby Lopez, Charo Santos-Concio and Cory Vidanes, and she promptly texted Funfare the following message:

Hi, Tito Ricky. I promised you an update. We had a fruitful meeting with Boss Gabby, Ma’am Charo and Tita Cory. All my sisters (Ballsy, Viel and Pinky) were with me. Effective June 30 when Noy is proclaimed (sworn in) president, I will graciously give up hosting both The Buzz and SNN. It’s a decision I am at peace with because I know that I will lessen Noy’s stress by leaving two shows I love dearly, but could unintentionally be sources of controversy.

I told you that I have my entire being to help my brother win, and now I will continue to give my entire self to help him succeed as president of our country. If that means sacrificing my exposure and income from two shows I am so closely identified with, then that is what being family is all about, putting the good of all above personal interest. Much love to you. Ikaw lang ang ti-next ko.

Sorry, Ruffa (Gutierrez) but you won’t have to order lechon from Cebu for the “despedida” planned for Kris by her Twitter non-fans. And Lolit (Solis), you won’t have to hire a taxi to escort Kris to the airport because even if she’s “leaving,” it won’t be, I repeat, the country by only her two shows on ABS-CBN.

Here’s Kris’ follow-up text message:

Just to make it clear, Tito Ricky, in case I’m misinterpreted, I will continue with (the teleserye) Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo and (the reality-TV) Pilipinas Got Talent. ABS-CBN is now looking at other shows that would be best suited for me after the teleserye ends in August.

Really now, could you imagine how drab and boring and unexciting local showbiz would be without Kris Aquino? Honestly, I could not. So I’m glad that Kris may be “leaving” (her two shows) but she’s, as I’ve been saying, here to stay.

Willie Revillame Speaks

Controversial “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame has appealed to his supporters for understanding as he continues to contemplate his next move in terms of his career in show business.

Revillame, who made the "I'll quit" threat on his show, admitted that he is still thinking whether to continue hosting “Wowowee.”

Revillame promised that the public will know his decision.

“Basta ako malalaman naman ng lahat kung ano ang magiging desisyon ko. Siyempre may takdang panahon para diyan. At kung malaman nila ‘yon sana maintidihan nila ako kung ito pa ang gusto kong gawin o hindi na,” he told TV5’s new celebrity show, “Paparazzi.”

He added: “Sana maintindihan nila ako dahil may pinagdadaanan ako ngayon. Meron din akong dapat na gawing desisyon sa buhay ko. Pinag-aaralan ko lahat. Pinag-iisipin ko lahat. Kung baga kinakausap ko ang sarili ko. Kung baga ano bang dapat kong gawin, ano pa bang gusto kong gawin sa buhay ko.”

It was Revillame’s first television interview after taking a leave of absence from “Wowowee.”

“Hindi ko nami-miss ang programa. Nami-miss ko ang tao,” he said.

During the interview, Revillame refused to discuss his public tiff with Jobert Sucaldito. He also vowed not to get affected by constants criticisms thrown at him.

“Tapos na yan. Wala naman akong galit kahit kanino…. Ngayon iba na ang pananaw ko sa buhay. Kung gusto ninyo akong sabihan ng hindi maganda, hindi ko na kayo papansinin… … lahat ng tumitira sa akin sa Twitter hindi ako concerned doon. Tsaka hindi ko pinapansin ‘yon kahit tirahin nila ako araw-araw,” he said.

Revillame said he would instead focus on helping his kababayans and making other people happy.

“Paparazzi” aired Revillame’s interview on Sunday amid speculations that he might transfer to network TV5.

TV5’s musical variety show, "PO5," also paid tribute to Revillame by performing some of the controversial host’s songs.

ABS-CBN’s ‘Halalan 2010′ Bested GMA’s ‘Eleksyon 2010′

ABS-CBN’s high-tech election coverage bested other networks last Monday while their anchors and reporters became multimedia journalists.

When Filipinos trooped to their precincts to vote on election day, most of them tuned in to ABS-CBN’s “Halalan 2010″ to get the latest news and went online to send their thoughts via the microblogging site Twitter, which made #Halalan the third most talked about or trending topic worldwide.

Aside from using new media like Twitter and Facebook in the country’s most comprehensive election coverage, ABS-CBN used the most advanced technology in news reporting like the augmented reality and giant touch-screen TV.

The new technology used added more excitement in viewing experience and helped viewers understand the news with state-of-the-art visual support. “TV Patrol World” topped the national ratings on election day with 31.5% vs GMA’s “24 Oras” (25%), according to TNS (Taylor Nelson Sofres)

The visual presence technology, wherein the anchor converses with a ‘virtual’ image of the reporter deployed to a different area, was one of the most commended features of the “Halalan 2010″ coverage.

The same technology
was used by CNN during their election coverage in 2008. It created a stir when the international news organization referred to it as hologram, which was disputed by experts. This was the same case when GMA chose to use the term “hologram,” instead of using the appropriate term virtual presence.

ABS-CBN also used a huge 103-inch touch-screen monitor to show comments of Pinoys generated through various social networking sites. But more than the high-tech facilities used, ABS-CBN was able to give the most comprehensive and up-to-date stories.

“It was not just about the technology but the story. We made sure the substance was not lost,” said ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Head Maria Ressa.

ABS-CBN is the most trusted TV network when it comes to election news coverage, according to Pulse Asia that did a survey on 21-25 February.

The results show that 63% of Filipinos believe that ABS-CBN is the most credible TV network in covering the campaign as compared to GMA 7, which only got 55% credibility rating.

ABS-CBN anchors and reporters also played a very crucial role on the success of election coverage as they become multimedia journalists reporting not just on TV but also online via abs-cbnNEWS.com and actively posting updates on their respective Facebook and Twitter accounts. In fact, ABS-CBN anchors like Julius Babao, Karen Davila, and Ces Drilon already have thousands of followers on Twitter.

ABS-CBN also conducted exit polls in partnership with Pulse Asia and it was also the only network that conducted a parallel count on randomly selected precincts all over the Philippines in partnership with STI.

Willie Revillame moving to TV5?

VARIOUS rumors float about Willie Revillame. It's said he's supposed to have a meeting with ABS-CBN boss Gabby Lopez about "Wowowee" but this didn't push through since he went to Macau for a vacation with Chavit Singson.

Willie reportedly wants to have a six-month vacation but ABS thinks that's too long so he can just tender his resignation and Vhong Navarro will replace him.

Now, the latest story is he'll definitely move to TV5. He has already been interviewed by Cristy Fermin, another former ABS talent now with TV5. We heard this interview will be smokin' hot as he answers all the issues hurled against him. Watch out for it in Cristy's shows, "Juicy" and "Paparazzi.”

This Sunday, TV5's noontime show, "PO5", will also pay tribute to Willie, with their singers singing his songs. Willie might just appear live on the show. If he does, it could only mean he really wants to leave ABS and move to TV5.

Sa kanyang pagbalik, sisimulan ni Anne ang taping ng next soap niya sa ABS-CBN na bawal pang sabihin ang title, pero ang alam namin Green Rose ang title at Pinoy adaptation ng isang Korean novela. Kasama niya rito sina Jericho Rosales, Jake Cuenca at Alessandra de Rossi.

Kris Aquino's despedida

“I DON’T think that’s fair!” Thus President-in-waiting Senator Noynoy Aquino commented yesterday to more than 7,000 Facebook users who have urged his sister Kris to make good her promise to leave the country in a newly-created page called “Kris Aquino’s Despedida.”

The Facebook users even offered to help Kris pack her bags or give her a ride to the airport. Others suggested holding a despedida party for her. “Ano ang dahilan? ano ang nagawa niya, ano ang allegations na may mali siyang ginawa? Perhaps to the same degree as someone who presently resides in Malacañang? Walang allegation pero kailangan may punishment,” Noynoy said in defense of his sister.

The senator admitted that he is not amused by the comments posted on Facebook. He explained that if Kris leaves for abroad, she would leave behind Joshua and Baby James, her children by actor Phillip Salvador and basketball star James Carlos Yap.

The senator also questioned those pushing for Kris’ self-exile whether they were likening her to “the present tenant of Malacañang,” referring to President Gloria Arroyo.

Kristine Hermosa buntis kaya umalis ng bansa?

ALMOST two weeks na nawala ang lead actor ng top-rating at award winning show ng TV 5 (Midnight Dj) na si Oyo “Samboy” Sotto at ang girlfriend niyang si Kristine Hermosa.

Nagbakasyon kasi ang mga ito sa Vancouver ,Ca-nada kung saan naninirahan at naka-base na ang pamil-ya ni Kristine.

Pinabulaanan ni Oyo ang tsismis na kaya sila nag-tungo sa Canada ni Kristine ay para magpakasal.

Ayon kay Oyo vacation lang daw talaga ang ipinunta nila sa nasabing bansa. Pero inamin ni Oyo na may plano silang mag-settle down lalo na’t turning 27 na ang binata ni Vic by January next year. Pero hindi pa raw ngayon. If ever daw na darating ang puntong ready na sila parehong magpakasal ay Christian beach wedding ang gusto ni Oyo, pero wala pa naman daw definite date at kung saang beach gagawin.

Hindi rin daw totoong buntis si Kristine kaya sila nag-out of the country, dahil naniniwala sila parehong kailangang magpakasal mu-na sila bago ang sex.

Dalawa o apat ang gusto ni Oyo na maging anak nila ni Kristine. Mas maganda nga raw kung kambal --isang babae at isang lalaki.

Willie Revillame pinagre-resign ng ABS-CBN sa ‘Wowowee’

MAY tsikang umikot na nagkausap na raw ang management ng Wowowee at si Willie Revillame recently at ang naging takbo raw ng usapan ay humihingi ang TV host ng six months vacation sa noontime show.

Ayon sa tsika, hindi raw pinayagan ng management si Willie dahil masyadong matagal ang six months na bakasyong hinihingi nito. Instead, pinapili raw ng management ang TV host na mag-resign na lang kung talagang i-insist nito ang gusto.

Last Wednesday daw dapat nagsumite si Willie ng request para sa leave of absence pero hindi raw ito nakapag-submit.

Umikot din last Wednesday ang balitang magre-resign na si Willie sa Wowowee pero so far ay wala pa naman daw itong isinusimiteng resignation letter.

Pero napag-alaman naman namin na kasalukuyang nasa Macau ang TV host kaya paano makakapag-submit ng leave of absence or resignation letter or whatever?

As we write this ay hindi pa raw malaman kung kailan babalik ang TV host kaya up to now ay nakabitin sa balag ng alanganin kung ano ang mangyayari sa Wowowee.

ABS-CBN Revenues Grow 45% in 1Q 2010

For the first three months ending March 31, 2010, ABS-CBN generated consolidated revenues of P7.75 billion from advertising and consumer sales, P2.46 billion or 47% higher year-on-year.

The core net income of ABS-CBN jumped nearly six-fold to P1.08 billion in the first quarter of

2010 as recurring advertising revenues rose 45%, complemented by non-recurring advertising revenues from political ads that boosted growth in total advertising revenues to 83% year-on-year.

Recurring net income amounted to P667 million after deducting income attributable to nonrecurring election-related advertising revenues
. This translates to a 249% increase year-on-year over the P191 million net income in the first quarter of 2009.

Advertising Revenues

Recurring advertising revenues, mainly from regular advertisers, grew by P1.26 billion or 45% to P4.02 billion as a result of an increase in total advertising minutes sold and the rate adjustments that took effect in August last year and in February this year.

Boosted by strong national ratings and audience share, total advertising minutes sold by Channel 2 in the first three months of the year grew 41%, largely driven by the 23% year-on-year increase in advertising minutes sold to regular advertisers.

Non-recurring election-related advertising revenues amounted to P1.04 billion. Altogether, total advertising revenues across all platforms and subsidiaries reached P5.06 billion in the first three months of the year, P2.29 billion or 83% higher than they were in the same period in 2009.

Strong growth in advertising revenues pushed its contribution share to consolidated revenues to 65%, reducing the relative contribution share of consumer sales to 35%. Minus the nonrecurring election-related advertising revenues, the contribution share of consumer sales to consolidated revenues is 40%.

Consumer Sales

Consumer Sales for the first quarter amounted to P2.69 billion. This is P170 million more than consumer sales of P2.53 billion in the first quarter of 2009, a relatively slower growth of 7% year-on-year.

The substantial appreciation of the Philippine peso against the US dollar between the the first quarter this year versus the same period a year ago tempered ABS-CBN Global’s revenue growth of 11% in US dollar terms to 7% in peso terms. ABS-CBN Global’s 13% growth in overall viewer count to an estimated 2.2 million at the end of March 2010 was driven by strong doubledigit subscriber growth in cable TV and IPTV subscriptions.

Sky280 and SkyBroadband services have been well-received by their target markets. Correspondingly, SkyCable’s revenues from cable TV and broadband services grew 14% year-on-year.

ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. released three films in the first three months of this year. Two of them – I Love You, Goodbye and Miss You Like Crazy – topped P100 million in box office receipts, earning blockbuster status by local standards.

Expenses

Total expenses grew by P996 million or 22% year-on-year to P5.44 billion, driven mostly by higher production costs and general and administrative expenses (GAEX).

Total production costs in the first quarter of 2010 rose by P388 million or 27% to P1.8 billion as total programming hours of in-house produced primetime dramas, afternoon programs, and variety shows increased by 25% in response to viewer needs as well as advertiser demand.

Cost of sales and services grew by only 2% or P32 million to P1.70 billion with ABS-CBN Global’s cost of sales remaining flat in peso terms, even as its sale of services and goods rose by 7% year-on-year. Skycable’s cost of sales also remained nearly flat, registering only 1% growth year-on-year even as its revenues went up by 14%.

Total General and Administrative Expenses (GAEX) posted a 51% or P624 million year-on-year growth to P1.85 billion, which includes P261 million of one-time expenses for performance bonus accruals and consultancy fees. Net of these one-time expenses, recurring consolidated GAEX amounts to P1.59 billion with a correspondingly lower 30% year-on-year GAEX increase for the first quarter of 2010, mostly from an increase in personnel expenses for salary adjustments to make the Company’s compensation structure more competitive, increased provisioning for doubtful accounts and higher research and survey expenses.

While the growth in the major expense buckets seems high, these are programmed and are well within expectations and within budget.

Net Income and EBITDA

As a result of the Company’s continuing efforts to manage and control its expenses even with strong revenue growth, core net income reached P1.11 billion in the first quarter of 2010, 5.8X or P924 million more than the P191 million posted in the first quarter of 2009. After deducting a P28.6 million accounting adjustment required under Philippine Financial Reporting Standard 3, the reported net income attributable to shareholders for the first quarter of 2010 is P1.09 billion, 5.7X or P896 million higher than in the first quarter of 2009.

Net of P420 million derived from non-recurring advertising revenues, recurring net income amounts to P667 million, which is 249% higher than or is 3.5x the recurring net income of P191 million a year ago.

EBITDA for the first quarter of 2010 reached P2.44 billion, yielding an EBITDA margin of 31% and is 80% higher than EBITDA of P1.35 billion in the first quarter of 2009. After netting out P600 million EBITDA from non-recurring advertising revenues, recurring EBITDA for the first quarter of 2010 totals P1.84 billion. This translates to an EBITDA margin of 27% and is 36% higher than recurring EBITDA a year ago.

Capital expenditures and film and program rights acquisitions for the first quarter of 2010 amounted to P486 million, P153 million or 24% lower year-on-year.

ABS-CBN maintained its national audience share and ratings leadership with total-day audience share averaging 47% in the first quarter. For the period January to March 2010, the first sixteen programs and a total of eighteen of the Top 20 programs were from ABS-CBN, based on the Taylor Nelson Sofres National Philippines Television Audience Measurement service. The top 10 programs in that list enjoyed ratings of at least 30% and audience shares ranging from 48% to as high as 60%.

Primetime programs launched in the first quarter of 2010 — Agua Bendita, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo, and Pilipinas Got Talent — enjoyed national program ratings in the mid- to high 30s.

Tanging Yaman’s ratings of 25.2% is also high for its 6pm timeslot.

Will Willie quit Wowowee?

The answer to that banner question will depend on the outcome of a closed-door heart-to-heart talk between Wowowee host Willie Revillame and ABS-CBN chairman & CEO Gabby Lopez scheduled today.

Meanwhile, Willie has been missing from the show for more than one week now, keeping his “vow” made on air that he would quit if the management of dzMM, ABS-CBN’s sister company, wouldn’t fire Jobert Sucaldito whom Willie accused of hitting him “for one year now” on Jobert’s radio program.

Mercifully, Jobert has listened to management’s advice to stop hitting Willie but he is standing pat on his resolve not to apologize to Willie, not ever!

The in-house “feud” erupted only a few days before the May 10 polls. Willie has openly campaigned for Sen. Manny Villar who has already conceded to Sen. Noynoy Aquino who is leading in the presidential race.

Funfare Update’s Bohol Avenue DPA said that the row between Willie and Jobert is not politically-motivated.

“I voted for Gibo (Teodoro),” said Jobert.

But Pokwang, one of the Wowowee co-hosts who owes Willie a debt of gratitude, showed up at one of Noynoy’s rallies without informing Willie as she should have (as a gesture of courtesy, you know).

“I don’t regret campaigning for Noynoy,” Pokwang was quoted as saying, “although I regretted not having asked Willie’s permission.”

Willie’s absence from Wowowee is made more intriguing by his silence.

“Willie has prepared a resignation letter,” added the Funfare Update DPA. “His contract with ABS-CBN is still good for one year and a half.”

The big question is: Will Willie submit that letter to Gabby Lopez during their meeting today?

Willie Revillame pinagpa-public apology ng mga taga-Dos

KUNG alam lang ng TV host-komedyante, sukang-suka na sa kanya ang staff ng pulitikong kanyang iniendorso.

Hindi na raw nila ma-take ang attitude nitong akala mo kung sino at feeling hari kung makapag-salita.

Napakarami raw nitong arte kapag may campaign sortie at lagi raw nagte-threaten mag-walkout kapag may hindi nagustuhan.

Nagpapasalamat na lang ang staff at tapos na ang eleksyon kaya hindi na nila makikita ang pagmumukha ng TV host-komedyante at never ever na rin daw nilang panonoorin kahit kailan ang show nito.

Ganyan katindi ang pagkaimbiyerna nila sa TV host.

MAY bali-balitang si Vhong Navarro raw ang napipisil para ipalit kay Willie Revillame sa Wowowee.

Pero wala pa itong kumpirmasyon dahil wala pa rin namang sinasabi ang management tungkol dito.

Ayon sa isang staff ng ABS-CBN, maling-mali raw talaga ang TV host sa ginawang paghahamon sa management dahil pinalalabas nitong mas mataas pa siya sa mga bossing at pinangungunahan ang mga ito.

Ang gustong mangyari ng ilan sa mga taga-ABS-CBN ay mag-apologize na lang ang TV host in public at sabihing nabigla lang siya at nadala ng emosyon para matapos na ang problema.

Hindi lang namin alam kung kayang gawin ito ng TV host.
