KC Concepcion, verbally abused?

“Aba, malaking halaga ang mawawala kay SK now that KC is under Star Magic.

Charice, Foster and company hospitalized in Singapore

As we go to press, The STAR received the report that Charice (photo) and David Foster, and everybody in their entourage were rushed to a hospital in Singapore due to apparent food poisoning.

Bum Tenorio, assistant editor and columnist of Allure, this paper’s Sunday section, and a close friend and neighbor of Charice and her family in Cabuyao, Laguna, confirmed the news from one of Charice’s companions in Singapore.

“Charice had a slight stomachache after eating sushi in the Green Room restaurant where the group had lunch yesterday,” said Bum. “They were examined at the hospital and were discharged in a while.”

Charice and Foster had an SRO staging of Hitman: David Foster & Friends at the Araneta Coliseum Saturday (Oct. 23) last week. The concert tour was kicked off in Las Vegas. After Manila, they did the show in Bangkok before they went to Singapore.

“Nothing serious,” another source told The STAR.

According to reports, the show in Singapore scheduled last night would be pushed through. Doctors were quoted as saying that the food poisoning wouldn’t affect Charice’s performance and those of the rest, including Peter Cetera, The Canadian Tenors, American Idol alumnus Ruben Studdard and Natalie Cole.

ABS-CBN to file another TRO vs Willie's show

Zyrene Pasad Ready to Sing National Anthem

Salvador Escudero at kay Prof. Ryan Cayabyab na the best person to consult daw on how to properly sing Lupang Hinirang.

Derek Ramsay Denies Rumors

“Erich has met my family and she has dropped by, we have a bar there sa Tagaytay, she met my family but nothing else.

“We’re shooting a movie together, we’re doing Magkaribal together although we don’t have much scenes together in Magkaribal pero may tinatapos kaming movie, ’yung Corazon, na hindi matapus-tapos dahil sa weather,” say ng aktor.

“She’s (Erich) my friend and I’m really close to her, to her PA (personal assistant) and her driver, ganu’n ako sa mga tao, and ’yun nga, biglang lumabas ang mga intrigang ito.”

“Wala, dedma, just like everything else. She knows that, sometimes, she knows more than I do, kaya nasa-shock na lang ako.

Miguel Estenzo Scandal Photo

Manager drops hardheaded KC?

SOMEONE close to talent manager Shirley Kuan told us that contrary to reports, it’s not KC Concepcion who left her but the other way around. Shirley is said to have had enough of KC’s hardheadedness. “Shirley felt hindi naman naniniwala si KC sa mga advice niya, so there’s no need na patagalin pa ang relationship nila as manager and talent,” says our informer.

Some writers have tried to interview Shirley for the exact reason but she chooses to keep quiet.

We heard Star Magic is now managing KC’s career.

Charice in Billboard's 21 Under 21 list

This makes me feel good. I was checking out the recent issue of Billboard magazine when I came across this article. 21 Under 21: Music’s Hottest Minors. It comes with a list of 21 young stars described as on a white-hot winning streak. They are the ones that Billboard.com believes we will be watching and listening to in the year to come. Hopefully, lots of years to come because Charice is in the list. And surprise, surprise, also the Wonder Girls of K-Pop.

What I find most remarkable about this is the inclusion of two Asian acts. I remember a time when Asians music artists, were finding it very hard to break into the US hit charts. The Europeans, Beatles, ABBA, etc., Latinos, Julio Iglesias, Menudo, etc., and Africans, Ladysmith Black Mombazzo, Hugh Mesekela, others, were widely accepted. Kyu Sakamoto’s Sukiyaki landing in the Top 10 in May, 1963 was cause for rejoicing. Pink Lady, a female duo from Japan launched a well-funded bid for US stardom in the early 80s but nothing happened. But today we have Charice and the Wonder Girls in a biggies list from Billboard.

I believe that loads of thanks should go out to those responsible for this accomplishment. To Leah Salonga as Miss Saigon for making the world aware that Filipinos are excellent singers; also to all the other Filipino Miss Saigons who came in her wake and all the Pinoys who worked or acted in the musical. Their being there and doing a great job was like telling the world, Hey guys, we know how to do this. We do not live in trees!

To apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas. Okay, he is now technically American but I think it’s laudable that he always finds a way to make people aware of his roots in every CD. Remember that Bebot rap? To the band Journey for forgetting how incongruous it looks, having a singer who is unmistakably Asian fronting a band of big white guys. All that they cared about was that Arnel Pineda can sing the Journey songs beautifully; And then to Ellen for finding Charice on the web and then to Oprah for opening the doors to success beyond her wildest dreams or of ours for that matter.

I believe that local artists, old and new, should take note of this new paradigm in success goals. Yes, it is great to be played on Love Radio or to be in Astro’s hit list or to be asked to endorse those great clothes at Bench, but it is now time to think beyond that because such dreams can come true.

Here now is the list of the most successful under 21 music stars.

1. Taylor Swift, 20. Her Fearless was Album of the Year in 2009 and she has another big one coming with Speak Now.

2. Justin Bieber, 16. Baby, baby, baby. Need we say more?

3. Selena Gomez, 18. From Wizards Of Waverly Place to big pop star with the hit album A Year Without Rain.

4. Charice, 18. From loser in an ABS-CBN talent show to success with Oprah, David Foster and in Glee.

5. Soulja Boy Tell’em, 20. Rapper and producer of the big hit Crank That.

6. Nick Jonas, 18. Youngest of the Jonas Brothers. Star of Camp Rock on TV and Les Miserables on London’s West End.

7. Willow Smith, 9. Daughter of Will and Jada Smith. Big hit coming up with Whip My Hair. Sounds like a song for Justin.

8. Demi Lovato, 18. Camp Rock star with hit solo CD, Here We Go Again.

9. Greyson Chance, 13. He was the kid on the internet singing his rearranged version of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi.

10. Miley Cyrus, 17. She is fast growing up but fans will always love her as Hannah Montana.

11. Lex Luger, 19. Hot new R&B producer.

12. Taylor Monsen, 17. Star of Gossip Girl. Fronts her own Pretty Reckless Band.

13. Chris Colfer, 20. The amazing Kurt Hummel of Glee.

14. Miranda Cosgrove, 17. Star of the TV series icarly with the hit album Sparks Fly.

15. Dizzy Simmons, 15. Rapper son of rap music pioneer Reverend Run of Run DMC.

16. Wonder Girls. Koreans Sun, 21; Yenny, 21; Sohee, 18; Yubio, 21; and Hyelin 18. They sing Nobody, nobody but you. K pop has launched its invasion of the US of A.

17. Never Shout Never, 20. Christofer Drew Ingle, guitar pop sensation discovered when he uploaded his works on the web.

18. New Boyz. Ben J, 18 and Legacy, 18 of the big hit You’re A Jerk.

19. Nikki Yanofsky, 16. Canadian jazz pop artist.

20. Cody Simpson, 13. Australian pop idol with Flo Rida in the hit tune iYiYiYi.

21. Sean Kingston, 20. Remember his Beautiful Girl? Eenie Meenie, His duet with Justin is another big hit.

Willie's show, not impressing?

Oh, well. What can you expect? Ang Wowowee ay nasa ABS-CBN noon. We all know na ang halos lahat ng malalaking artista, nasa Kapamilya network. Kaya walang Sarah Geronimo o Charice Pempengco silang aasahan. Wala raw silang nakita kundi sina Dra. Vicky Belo at Senador Manny Villar.

Kris Aquino To Go Back to TV Next Year

Speaking of Kris Aquino, determined siya to go back to tv, but this will happen next year pa nga raw.

By then, aniya, she would have solved lahat ng problemang meron siya, personal man o otherwise.

May nakahanda nang programa ang ABS-CBN for Kris. Pero ayon sa kanya, she is not privileged, not just yet, to divulge kung ano ang magiging format nito.

But if she were to make a choice raw, Kris wants either a game show like Pilipinas, Game Ka Na Ba? or Deal or No Deal o kaya’y a talent show like Pilipinas Got Talent.

“Kaya I plan to concentrate on Dalaw, since it’s my comeback movie of sorts.

“Feeling ko, people expect so much from the movie, if not from me. Kaya it has to be something good, something different,” sabi pa ni Kris.

Kung sabagay, natoka na kay Kris ang pagiging ‘horror queen,’ owing to the box-office success of two of her horror films, Feng Shui and Sukob, both handled by Chito Roño.

Dalaw, on the other hand, is directed by Dondon Santos, direktor ng indie movie na Noy, which starred Coco.

QC Court Junks Willie’s Appeal to Dismiss P486M Counter Suit

A Quezon City court recently denied TV host Willie Revillame’s motion to dismiss the P486 million counter suit filed against him by ABS-CBN.

Judge Luisito Cortez of the Regional Trial Court Branch 84 ordered Revillame to post a bond of nearly P427 million not later than Oct 27, which will answer for any damage ABS-CBN may have suffered with the airing of Revillame’s new show “Willing Willie.”

The said game-variety show on TV5 premiered yesterday (Oct 22) after the court denied ABS-CBN’s request for a temporary restraining order to stop it from airing.

In its official statement, ABS-CBN expressed its disappointment over the court’s decision not to grant a TRO.

“What Willie did is a violation of the contract he signed with ABS-CBN, which will expire next year. ABS-CBN only wishes that Willie fulfills his obligations under the contract. Honoring one’s contract is important,” it said.

“We are disappointed that no TRO was granted vs Willie. Let us not forget that the root cause of all these issues is Willie’s disrespectful behavior and threat vs ABS-CBN management. We believe that justice will prevail and the truth will come out. We will continue to fight for our rights.”

ABS-CBN continues to lead in the national TV ratings even on weekends despite claims by other networks. Based on the national TV ratings data by Kantar Media, ABS-CBN remains the undisputed leader on weekend programming beating all other shows. “Wansapanataym,” “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” and “TV Patrol Weekend” were among its top-raters and no other weekend programs from GMA7 and TV5 made it to the overall top 20 chart.

ABS-CBN is launching several new programs in the coming weeks such as “Juanita Banana” topbilled by Miss Philippines-Universe 2009 Bianca Manalo and “Mara Clara” starring rising teen actresses Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes.

In September 2010, ABS-CBN hit a national average audience share of 40%, trumping second placer GMA Network’s 34% share, according to data from global media specialist Kantar Media.

Charice got the Big Dome all shook up!

If Charice were a temblor, I would say that she got the Big Dome Saturday night all shook up with Intensity 10. No other singer in recent memory performed with such a powerful voice that she caused palpable vibration throughout the audience, so powerful in fact that, I’m sure, that if I held a glass of water, that voice would have shattered the glass the way, if what I had read somewhere was correct, Vic Damone’s vocal power did.

As the finale among the five performers (including The Canadian Tenors, Natalie Cole, Ruben Studdard and Peter Cetera) in the Hitman David Foster and Friends, staged to a likewise SRO audience last week in Japan, Charice sang four songs, hitting the high notes with such amazing ease (no effort at all, see!) that the audience responded with a standing ovation each time, starting with Power of Love, followed by Pyramid (from her hit debut album), a medley of I Have Nothing and I Will Always Love You (both Foster compositions from the movie The Bodyguard, starring Foster talent Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner), and All By Myself.

We have heard Charice sing before, on TV (local shows and in the hit US musical-drama Glee in which she plays a nerdy Filipino exchange student, the newest character on the series) and on the CD, but hearing her sing “live” in such a distinguished company was an altogether different experience. You’d wonder, where does this little girl (all of 18, not quite five feet tall) draw an overwhelming voice like that?

Thrice, Foster exclaimed, “I’m having the best time of my life!” And that’s exactly what everybody was enjoying --- probably the best concert ever mounted at the Araneta Coliseum in years.

Charice proved to be not only a golden-voiced talent but also an obedient student, addressing Foster (her godfather) with “Yes, sir!” everytime Foster talked to her. Obviously, success hasn’t affected Charice whose body language showed her still being a down-to-earth probinsyana.
That’s me and Jojo Gabinete with Cole backstage of The Big Dome last year after her show.

The good-looking Canadian Tenors kicked off the two-hour show, making women in the audience swoon. I think the smooth blending of the four guys’ voices reminded some of those in the audience of Il Divo. Their version of The Prayer was a winner.

Natalie did three songs, starting with Fever. When she sang Miss You Like Crazy (used as title and theme song of a Sam Milby and Anne Curtis movie), the audience sang along with her. Introducing her third song, Natalie said, “A lot of people got married to and made babies to this song,” with Foster adding, “and divorced.” Yes, Unforgettable which, thanks to the magic of technology, Natalie did as a duet with her father, the great Nat King Cole, while clips of her as a kid (with a few missing front teeth) and her father (“Who was forever away performing,” said Natalie in an exclusive interview with The STAR last year) were shown on the monitor.

That night, Natalie was “game,” unlike on her show also at the Big Dome last year when she was grumpy, interrupting her songs to complain against those in the audience taking pictures of her with their cellfones. It was understandable. After that show, Jojo Gabinete and I were invited backstage by the producers to have souvenir photos with Natalie who was wearing a plaster on her right chest. We learned that earlier that day, she had undergone a dialysis (she’s suffering from hepatitis C and is waiting for a donor for her kidney transplant) and, according to doctors, a one-hour procedure was equivalent to four hours of jogging.

After American Idol alumnus Studdard sang two songs, I Swear and After the Love Has Gone, Foster demonstrated how talented and creative Studdard was. Foster went down the stage and asked two ladies to think of a line each and Studdard would set it into music, accompanied by Foster on the piano. One line was “so many years” and the other, “I’ll be there for you forever.” Voila, as soon as Foster went back onstage, he and Studdard created new songs from those lines impromptu!

Here only last year, Cetera regaled the audience with familiar songs --- Hard to Say I’m Sorry, You’re My Inspiration and If You Leave Me Now --- and, you guessed it, it was sing-along time once again. “I told you,” Cetera told Foster, “you will enjoy Manila!,” before he launched into Glory of Love (another Foster song used as theme of Karate Kid). His duet with Natalie on When I Fall In Love was a show-stopper.

Foster fulfilled his promise to ask potential singers at random from the audience and to impress him within 30 seconds. Two volunteered, a lady and a teen trio. But Foster didn’t try hard enough (maybe for lack of time). Then, he picked a guy who turned out to be Randy Santiago and invited him onstage. Randy sang Wild Flower, a Foster song, and the audience gave him a heartwarming applause. I asked Randy after the show if he was “planted” and he said no, “Nagulat nga ako, eh!”

Foster went down the stage again and chose a lady --- why, it was no less than Asia’s Queen of Song Pilita Corrales! --- who obliged with a rendition of Dahil Sa’yo. “What a wonderful voice!” said Foster. “Everybody in the Philippines sings!” He probably didn’t have any idea who Pilita was.

Guess who Foster picked next --- yes, Arnel Pineda (of The Journey) who was seated “incognito” near the stage. In white shirt, denim pants and rubber shoes, Arnel was ushered onstage by Foster and he sang Hard Habit to Break (by Chicago). He, too, was not “planted.”

After Charice did her set, she was joined one by one onstage by Natalie, Studdard, Cetera and The Canadian Tenors for the rousing number What About Us which, according to Foster, he cooked up with Michael Jackson.

“I waited three years for Charice to bring me here,” said Foster, promising to come back for more, more, more next year.

I won’t be surprised if the management would report cracks at the Big Dome and blame it on Intensity 10 Charice.

What a shook-up night it was. Really, that’s what friends are for, isn’t it?

Has Korina Sanchez really Begun Negotiations with TV 5?

The buzz has been heard before but in the world of show business, any persistent rumor will always be scrutinized until the truth is finally revealed. This seems to be the case these days about premiere and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez.

The humming from certain corners about Sanchez jumping fences from ABS-CBN to TV 5 continues and as recent as October 22, a tabloid ran a short update. Apparently from information that slipped from a TV 5 insider, there have already been negotiations between the Kapatid network’s executives and Sanchez.

TV 5, of course, has been aggressive in building up their network and roster of talents and speculations about who is moving where are inevitable. However, the rumors that Sanchez might jump ship have been swirling as far back as August.

On the Media Newser Philippines blog site, a ‘reliable source’ from ABS-CBN had revealed that the TV host/radio anchor might make the transfer. It also reported that Sanchez had wanted to return to “Bandila” but that, according the ABS-CBN News Head Maria Ressa, her leave of absence would not allow for it.

Sanchez, who went on a leave of absence from “Bandila” and DZMM radio show “Tambalang Failon at Sanchez” beginning May 9, 2009, went on to marry then-Senator Mar Roxas. Roxas went on to run as the Liberal Party Vice Presidential bet in the elections last May, for which Sanchez also campaigned.

By July, ABS-CBN reported that Sanchez was having a “series of meetings” with Kapamilya network executives to discuss the next step for her.

“Ready na akong bumalik. It now depends kung ano ang babalikan ko, kung ano ang puwede. Sabi ko ‘Citizen Mar’ naman si Mar ngayon, so I don’t see any reason why I can’t go back to my former platforms,” Sanchez was quoted in the report.

But it was clarified that Sanchez was leaving it up to the ABS-CBN management. “So, kung sensitive sila sa parang hangover from the campaign and the elections, kahit palipasin ‘yon it's really fine with me. I will always be with them so it really all depends on what we talk about,” she told them.

In August this year, a separate source reported of the possibility of Sanchez’ transfer to the Kapatid network “if ABS-CBN doesn’t have major plans for her.”

Sanchez was asked about it and replied that she wasn’t “talking to anyone but ABS-CBN,” and that she was “waiting for their plans for the resumption of my work.”

In this latest update on Sanchez, no further details are revealed. Whether or not this is just the Kapatid network’s way of sending out feelers or there is really truth to the purported negotiations, the fact remains that whichever network Sanchez ends up with, it would certainly benefit from her expertise and track record.

ANC gains wide online news following

ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, reached another milestone recently after its followers on Twitter broke the 100,000 mark, making it the most followed and most influential Filipino news organization on the popular international social-networking site.

This only shows that ANC (ANCalerts) is the preferred source of more Filipinos from all over the world for breaking news and news updates in the country and the world.

ANC COO Glenda Gloria said this new achievement further solidifies ANC’s presence in social media, said to be where the future of journalism is heading with the growing number of people who get and exchange information on-line.

“ANC was the first TV channel in the Philippines to convert Twitter and Facebook into a second channel,” Gloria said. “We were also the first to have its own social media team, composed of young, aggressive and news-savvy producers and writers.”

Because of its social media presence, more young professionals and students are tuned to ANC, a market she says ANC had not been successful in penetrating before 2008.

As one of the country’s first and staunchest advocates of citizen journalism, ANC has already built a strong following among netizens. On its Facebook page, around 34,000 of its 41,076 fans actively participate in the ANC 24/7 wall, while post views reach an average of no less than 500,000 a month.

In July, meanwhile, ANC joined other global news channels such as BBC and CNBC, which are regularly advertised by Twitter on its front door. It also tops the list of the most influential Philippine news accounts on Twitter.

ANC airs on Skycable channel 27. Follow ANC (ANCalerts) on www.twitter.com and www.facebook.com. You may also visit www.abs-cbnnews.com/anc for important news and updates.

The star of David Foster

Her mentor and record producer David Foster doesn’t doubt it. Charice will win the Grammy, “maybe not next year, but for sure she will.”

Foster, also called the “Hitman” because of the many hits he wrote and produced (Hard to Say I’m Sorry, The Glory of Love, I Swear, etc.) was talking at the presscon of his first-ever concert in Manila, Hitman: David Foster and Friends tonight at 8, at the Araneta Coliseum.

So confident is the 15-time Grammy winner about Charice’s talent he glows every time he discusses his plans for her.

“My plan for her is for her to keep on growing until she’s the number one international star and make Asia proud. I know she has made the Philippines proud. Our goal is to make all of Asia proud.”’

Charice, seated right next to Foster is dumbfounded.

“I’m speechless,” she admits. “I won’t get tired of saying thank you.”

The 18-year-old star of Glee then turns to Foster, whom she simply calls David: “I just hope you, Oprah and everyone else who helped me won’t get tired of helping me and making all my dreams come true.”

Natalie, who grew up in the business as the daughter of music icon Nat King Cole, has this advice about preserving Charice’s voice.

“Save your voice. Leave some to yourself.”

Cetera, also a seasoned performer adds: “Show up and be on time.”

One of the four Canadian Tenors chimes in, “Stay sweet and real.”

That should be no problem for Charice, who has yet to show that her stint in Glee and most recently, her gold record award in Japan, have gone to her head.

Told that people are comparing her to Celine Dion, another Foster protégé, Charice reacts: “I’m flattered. It’s a big responsibility.”

And oh yes, she still has to pinch herself whenever she rubs elbows with great singers like Dion and celebrities like Oprah.

“I still can’t believe it!” gushes Charice.

She may have performed in various stages and before many kinds of audiences all over the world. But until now, Charice admits she feels standing ovations are something new to her. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t relish them.

“I hope they continue with it (the standing ovations). Standing ovations give me energy,” Charice states.

She’s just as humble about the prospect of winning a Grammy.

“Libre naman ang mangarap (“Dreams are for free),” she states with a laugh.

Foster is not that tentative about the other things she can do besides singing. He not only watched her in Glee. He saw Charice act before the American TV cameras with his own two eyes.

“It was exciting,” he recalls. “I watched al the other kids, the other actors, and it was very exciting!”
Charice and David Foster share a light moment at the presscon. Below: Charice in People mag’s special issue on Glee.

He is not surprised at seeing Charice act and sing at the same time in the popular series.

“I believe every great singer can act. It just makes sense because singing is just like acting. Turns out Charice is a great actress.”

Members of media were not allowed to ask questions about Charice’s role in Glee as Sunshine Corazon. So no one was able to confirm reports if she’s returning to the hit TV show for its seventh episode on Nov. 2.

“I can’t say anything about it,” Charice relates. “Hindi ko pa nakukuha ang exact dates.”

Whether or not she gets the dates everyone is waiting for, one thing’s for sure, her kababayan can’t thank Foster enough for helping Charice.

“I wanna say it again,” states Foster.”Every single day of my life, a Filipino comes up to me – on the street, the hotel, in the restaurant. He takes my hand and says thank you for Charice. They are so warm.”

But he sees no need for them to do that.

“I don’t feel they should be thanking me. Charice is theirs.”

That’s why he’s beside himself with joy that “I can get to see 10,000 Filipino people all at once (in the show) It’s breathtaking for me.”

At the risk of being redundant, I say, thank you again, Mr .Foster. We hope you can develop another Charice someday.

Kim and Gerald, guarded

NOW it can be told: Just to be sure na wala ngang untoward incident na magaganap kina Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson nang kinunan ang mga eksena nila sa Till My Heart Ends, Direk Joey Javier Reyes made sure that Star Cinema had eight policemen around the set.

And they allegedly (yes, allegedly, ha?) came pa mandin from the Kimeralds.

Kesyo nga naman, sasaktan sila. May sasabuyan ng asido. In this case, si Bea Alonzo raw ang puntirya (raw, ha), dahil nga sa pagkaka-link nito kay Gerald.

At heto ang pinaka … May papatayin sa kanila.

“Actually,” sabi nga ni Direk Joey, “I’ve talked to some of the Kimeralds. And they seemed not just nice but decent people. A number of them are professionals pa nga.

“And they swear, wala silang kinalaman sa threats na ongoing. Kung totoo man daw na mga ilang Kimeralds nga ang may gawa ng threats na ito, nalulungkot sila for them. Dahil nga naman ang puwedeng ituring na kasalanan ng mga ito reflects on all the Kimeralds na tuloy.”

What Direk Joey said he would advise the Kimeralds, pati na rin sa fans and followers ng iba pang mga artista, is for them to face reality na as much as we admire, not to say, love, ang mga hinahangaan nating bituin, we cannot control their lives.

In the end, tulad ng karaniwang nilalang, they will have to decide what is good for themselves — what is best at kung ano ang makakapagpaligaya sa kanila.

Willing Willie show on today, TRO junked

THERE’S no stopping with the airing today of the new variety show of TV host and comedian Willie Revillame entitled “Willing Willie”on ABC TV5. This after a Quezon City court last night junked the prayer for the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) of the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.

In an eight-page order, QC Regional Trial Court Branch 84 Presiding Judge Luisito Cortez denied the petition for TRO filed by ABS-CBN due to lack of merit.

Judge Cortez was prompted to issue yesterday evening an order after the ABS-CBN sought for the urgent resolution of their petition following reports that the show of Revillame will be airing its initial telecast today (Saturday).

The ABS-CBN sought for the issuance of TRO claiming that it will suffer irreparable damage and injury once Revillame will not be stopped from performing in another TV network in view of his existing contract with the network.

Charice back in Manila for 'David Foster & Friends' Concert

International singing sensation and country's pride Charice, along with legendary songwriter David Foster and international singer Natalie Cole, arrived here Thursday afternoon after their successful "David Foster & Friends Asian Tour" show in Japan.

Charice, Foster and Cole arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 1:15 p.m. via Japan Airlines JAL 741.

Foster was accompanied by his girlfriend, Yolanda.

Charice will join Peter Cetera, Canadian Tenors, Ruben Studdard and Cole, among others, at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on October 23 for the “David Foster & Friends” concert. Charice is part of "David Foster & Friends Asian Tour," and Japan was one of the tour's stopovers.

Foster told ABS-CBN News that he is happy to be in the Philippines and perform alongside Charice in Manila.

Foster said he got close to Filipinos after helping Charice in her international career. “Everyday there's a Filipino who thanks me, literally everyday, thanking me because of Charice.”

Charice, on the other hand, thanked all her supporters as she invited them to watch their concert at the Big Dome.

From the airport, Charice’s group proceeded to a hotel in Pasay City where a press conference was organized.

During the press conference, Studdard admitted that he is also a big Charice fan.

“I think Charice is a wonderful singer. She'll be performing for years to come…. She's my little sister and I think she's one of the best singers in my life,” he said.

Foster was confident that Charice’s career will continue to soar with her talent.

“We gave her a gold record in Japan last night… The voice is getting better everyday. Charice is like getting better everyday. She's a laser beam,” he said.

Last October 19, Charice, Foster and other international artists have taken Japan by storm after their performance at the Tokyo International Forum.

Last October 15, Charice got 2 standing ovations in Las Vegas where she joined other artists for the "One and Only Hit-Man David Foster and Friends" concert held at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Charice, who plays Sunshine Corazon in "Glee," said her song numbers are just a preview of what's in store for those who are planning to watch Foster's concert in Manila on October 23.

Meanwhile, airport authorities scored Ultimate Production (not Ovation Production as earlier reported), which produced the Manila concert, for breaching security protocol at the airport.

Consuelo Bungag, head of the Public Affairs Office at the Manila International Airport Authority, said airport officials were surprised after Charice’s group failed to go through the immigration and customs documents and passenger check.

Mara Clara 26 weeks ipalalabas

Sarah Geronimo wins Entertainer of the Year sa Aliw

Wagi siya Best Female Major Concert and Entertainer of the Year sa ginanap na Aliw Awards the other night sa Manila Hotel.

Bago ‘yun, nagwagi na siyang Female Recording Artist of the Year para sa kanyang album na Music and Me sa 2nd Star Awards for Music ng Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC).

My Phone, “My Phone wants to be, not just a phone but a source of entertainment.”

“It’s very meaningful to me. I’d like to thank My Phone for making me part of their family,” sabi ni Sarah.

Kathryn Bernardo as Mara and Julia Montes as Clara, the topbillers of the upcoming series, are set to follow the footsteps of the original Mara and Clara, Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes as they pour out intense acting on the highly-anticipated teleserye.

“Sobrang happy po ako dahil sa dami ng artista na pwede nilang piliin for this role, ako yung pinili nila. Yung Mara Clara is the mother of all teleseryes at saka five years po siyang tumakbo kaya sobrang happy ako na ako yung pinagkatiwalaan ng ABS-CBN na gumanap as Mara,” Kathryn says.

Other cast include Bobby Andrews, Ping Medina, John Manalo, Albi Casino, Chokoleit, Jhong Hilario, Mylene Dizon and Gina Pareño.

Gladys expressed her thoughts on the remake of the show. “For five years, sinasampal ko si Juday ngayon, gusto kong abangan kung paano papahirapan ni Julia si Kathryn sa remake ng Mara Clara. Charice Performs MJ Tribute with Ne-Yo - Video

Charice duets with R&B sensation Ne-Yo with a Michael Jackson tribute that compelled the audience for a standing ovation.

The said performance with Ne-Yo happened during the “One and Only Hit-Man David Foster and Friends” concert in Las Vegas last October 15.

Charice and Ne-Yo sang “Earth Song” as a tribute to the King of Pop Michael Jackson.

Aside from the Earth Song, one of the most applauded performances of the night was Charice‘s rendition of Celine Dion‘s “All By Myself.”

Apparently, David Foster had made a mistake in the song. He confessed to the audience that he had failed to tell Charice of the change in the song arrangement in the end, and thus after the performance he apologized to Charice, who was seemed a bit confused.

But the audience were not able to recognize what happened because Charice was able to catch the new arrangement and belted a sustained high F in the last high note. The audience stood and cheered for more than 30 seconds afterwards.

A fan who noticed the little “confusion” asked Charice on Twitter what really happened.

The Glee star twitted back:

“DavidF didn’t tell me that he removed 4 bars at the last part of the song. I understand. He’s a pretty busy Hitman! :) ”

Watch the said performance here:

Charice misses street food

* * *

ABS-CBN Seeks Immediate Court Ruling on TRO vs. Willie Revillame

As Willie Revillame and TV5 airs “Willing Willie” next Saturday, ABS-CBN seeks immediate court ruling on TRO to be invoked against the said show.

ABS-CBN Corporation yesterday (Oct 15) filed for a motion to resolve before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court following public announcements by Willie Revillame in the media that he will be pushing through with the launch of “Willilng-Willie” on October 23, which will defy the judge’s pronouncement that no show will be launched until he makes a ruling on ABS-CBN’s petition for a temporary restraining order (TRO) vs the TV host.

ABS-CBN requested the honorable court to immediately make a ruling in its application for the issuance of TRO and writ of preliminary injunction before October 23, which is the date when Revillame will pilot his game-variety program “Willing Willie.”

The Kapamilya Network justified the urgency for a ruling with Revillame’s recent statements in a news article where he said “nothing can stop” his show from airing. He even claimed that there is “no truth” that he entered a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ which is contrary to what the judge has pronounced.

ABS-CBN also cited TV5’s official statement, which said “Willing Willie” is set to air on October 23.

Other than the motion to resolve, ABS-CBN formally filed a reply to Revillame’s opposition to the network’s request for TRO and writ of preliminary injunction.

ABS-CBN clarified that the pendency of Revillame’s omnibus motion does not preclude the court’s resolution of ABS-CBN’s verified motion for TRO and writ of preliminary injunction.

It also enumerated all requisites present in the case enough for the court to grant its request for a TRO and writ against the TV host, and that the issuance of these will not result in a prejudgment of the instant case.

Last October 4, ABS-CBN filed a motion for the issuance of a TRO and writ of preliminary injunction in the Quezon City Regional Trial Court and requested it “to restrain Willie from creating or performing work similar to the work under the agreement for any person or entity in direct competition with the business of ABS-CBN and from engaging in activities which are adverse to the interests of ABS-CBN.”

ABS-CBN also sought the court to prevent Willie from appearing or using his name, voice or likeness, directly or indirectly, for promoting any product or service in print, radio, or television or any form of advertisement and committing any act which jeopardizes the success of the program or which may affect the good name and goodwill of ABS-CBN.

QC RTC Judge Luisito Cortez earlier said, “I will study the pleadings submitted to me by Oct 15. Both parties have a gentlemen’s agreement that no show will be launched while the court has not yet issued a ruling on the TRO and other issues.”

Revillame violated the behavioral provisions of his contract when he threatened the ABS-CBN management during the 4 May 2010 episode of “Wowowee,” with a resignation if management does not fire another artist of the network.

After weeks of hiatus, Revillame resurfaced and called for a press conference to announce that he was rescinding his contract with ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN has maintained that it is the aggrieved party, and as such, is the only one that can decide to end the agreement.

Shaina Magdayao is ready to fight for her love

More and more viewers are getting hooked to the ABS-CBN afternoon drama Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna as proven by the show’s consistent high ratings. The Shaina Magdayao-starrer even notched the top spot among all daytime TV programs last Oct. 7 according to the nationwide overnight ratings data from Kantar Media.

Fans of the show will have more reason to watch this week as the four lead characters finally cross paths. Rex (Sid Lucero) will return to Rancho Del Carmen to fight for Alyna and their child. His wife, Lilet (Kaye Abad) will follow him to the Philippines and pretend all is okay between them to avoid her father’s ire.

Viewers are already anticipating the face-off between Jason Abalos and Sid, who is nominated for Best Actor at the 2010 International Emmys.

Asked if she was ever in a situation when she had to fight for her loved one or if someone had fought for her, Shaina said she had experienced both.

“As long as it’s right, I’m not afraid to fight for my loved one. I will fight for him, as long as I’m not stepping on anyone’s toes,” said Shaina.

Jason, meanwhile, revealed he is currently trying to fight his feeling for someone.

“It’s so nice to love if you know youíre in love with the right person. I believe in fairy tales, even if I’m a guy. Kinikilig-kilig din ako,” he confessed.

Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna airs Monday to Friday after Rosalka. For web exclusives, visit www.facebook.com/PHRpresents.

All Praises for Angel Locsin

“I’m a big fan of them, lalo na ni Angel.

* * *

Double-effort sila sa kanilang routine and action scenes dahil from time to time, may eksenang kaila-ngang sila mismo ang gumawa.

Kris Aquino Kissing Scene with Diether Ocampo

Taylor Swift Manila Concert in February 11

There has been so much talk about exactly when Taylor Swift’s Manila concert will be, if at all. There have been many speculations and even misleading publicity that the concert will be this October, which was later moved to November.

According to Ovation Productions’ Renen de Guia, promoter of the hugely successful concerts in Manila (of, among others, Lady Gaga, Usher and Tears For Fears) and now the officially confirmed promoter of Taylor Swift in Manila, Taylor’s concert has been scheduled for Feb. 2011 and cannot be on an earlier date as the tour has been carefully planned to come after the release of her new album, Speak Now, which according to MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) marketing director, Wilson Cruz, is set to be released worldwide this Oct. 25 and in Asia the next day. This highly anticipated second international album of Swift’s includes the current hit single Mine.

I checked with Wilson and he confirmed both Swift’s October album release date and her February concert per advice they received from Universal Music Group International head office. According to Renen, Ovation Productions will come out with a special announcement on Nov. 1 regarding Taylor Swift’s February concert.

“This is in synchronization with all countries in Southeast Asia participating in the tour,” said Renen.

In the meantime, Taylor Swift fans clubs in the Philippines are invited to contact Ovation Productions at special hotlines 0915-4744397 (Globe) and 0949-4944954 (Smart).

ABS-CBN scraps projects for Robin, Mariel

IS it true ABS-CBN has scrapped all plans to give Robin Padilla and wife Mariel Rodriguez their own show? First, it was announced they don’t have any film project for Robin after he rejected the one he started with Toni Gonzaga. Now, the sitcom he’s supposed to be with Mariel has also been shelved.

They must have realized that the Robin-Mariel affair does not really produce the usual kilig moments that most showbiz love birds induce in the public but only instead generated some negative energy as people perceive they’ve been taken for a ride with Robin and Mariel supposedly having an Ibaloi wedding, a Christian wedding and also an alleged wedding at the Taj Mahal in India. As we’ve said before, it’s a case of starting a marriage on the wrong foot. The last we heard, ABS is now preparing a show for Robin with Bea Alonzo as leading lady. This will leave Mariel out in the cold, as she doesn’t have a single show at all. And with all the conflicts she’s allegedly having with the likes of Toni, KC Concepcion, Luis Manzano and Anne Curtis, looks like it will take quite a while before she bounces back into circulation. Well, since she has thrown all caution into the wind and is happy now just being plain Mrs. Robin Padilla, who cares?

ABS-CBN acts on Gerald death threats

Gabby Concepcion Bumalik Kay Mother Lily Monteverde

Girl Talk with Charice

After that flattering feature in Newsweek, Charice this time graces the latest issue of People magazine which devotes a one-and-a-half color page in a Q&A that brings the wit and humor of what People calls “Oprah’s protégée.”

The intro recalls how Charice, at 16, was discovered on YouTube, guested on Oprah Winfrey’s show, did a duet with Celine Dion and became known only by her first name. Charice has dropped her surname Pempengco after she was told by her estranged father to stop using it. At 18, Charice is making waves as the newest member of Glee, playing a Filipino foreign exchange student.

Some people have been wondering if Charice was here to pave the way for the singing contest named after her Glee character Sunshine Corazon in Barangay Gulod in Cabuyao, Laguna, where she grew up and first sang on the same stage where the SC contestants competed in an effort that, yes, any of them could be another Charice. All I know is that Charice is coming third week of this month to perform at Hitman David Foster and Friends show on the 23rd at the Araneta Coliseum.

Anyway, Funfare is printing the People mag’s “girl talk” with Charice to show how far she has gone from a barrio lass to an international star.

How is it playing Sunshine on Glee?
Charice singing Because You Loved Me with Celine Dion in New York City in 2008

“I can relate to her because I was nerdy, wore glasses and didn’t talk much in school. Glee is my favorite show ever. I was so nervous, but on-set everyone made me feel so comfortable.”

Let’s talk about boys. Are you dating yet?

“No. I’m not ready. I’m happy being a kid. Oprah told me, ‘Boyfriends can wait. Being a kid is once in a lifetime’.”

When you are ready, what will you look for in a guy?

“He has to be funny. That’s the main thing. Because I’m funny. Well, that’s what my friends tell me.”

How are Filipino boys different from American ones?

“Boys in America are more mature; 13-year-old boys here have girlfriends! But Filipino boys are so romantic. They give roses and chocolates. In high school six guys sang a Korean song I couldn’t understand in front of my house. It was so cute.”

Do you have any celebrity crushes?

“Justin Timberlake. Josh Groban. Jake Gyllenhaal. When I met Justin, I thought I was going to faint. He was like, ‘Charice, you’re so great!’ But Jessica Biel was there, so I was like, ‘This is not my night…’”

Why did you get Botox injections in July?

“I got it for jaw pain, not for wrinkles — I don’t have any.”

Were you surprised at the backlash?

“It was so ridiculous. You can check pictures of me before and after; I’m still the same. I’m never going to change my face. God gave it to me, and I’m proud of it.”

Incidentally, according to latest reports, Charice’s debut international album Pyramid is No. l in Japan’s hit charts.
