Sarah Geronimo afraid of Kimerald fans

Pero if ever, tatanggapin ba niya at willing siyang gawin?

“I’m in awe po talaga na nangyayari itong collaboration namin ni Sir Martin, the Concert King. Ang nakakasama ni Sir Martin, sina, of course si Ms. Pops (Fernandez), the Concert Queen, sina Ms. Regs (Regine Velasquez), sina Ms. Leah (Salonga), siyempre ho, talagang ano ito, nakakalula pero magandang challenge ito and mag-e-enjoy ako dito, I know na marami akong matututunan from Sir Martin, musically and intellectually din. So ’yun po.”

Cristine's sizzling love scenes with Zanjoe

Nakakaloka.

A wonderful Christmas from Christian

I had misgivings about Christian Bautista doing a Christmas album. I thought, not after Jed Madela and certainly not with the same producer, Ito Rapadas. Jed has this choir boy voice that is perfect for Christmas songs. Christian is more of the pop crooner. Well, maybe if he did only romantic Christmas songs, he might be able to hack it. But his style might come out inadequate for the soaring carols.

I was wrong. Christian’s A Wonderful Christmas produced by Ito is now available and it is good. I had forgotten that Christian has matured as an artist and should be able to interpret songs his own way. It was also good of Ito to give him light and easy arrangements that suit him best. I like most of all the Mariah Carey original All I Want For Christmas. Christian’s version is more rock than soul. Very nice.

Then I find turning a hymn like Amazing Grace into a folksy ballad backed by piano and guitar a brilliant idea. I also like his finger snapping Last Christmas, plus the jazzy Silver Bells and Christmas Alphabet. Then I wonder where they found the unheard of Christmas Shoes. It is a very sad song but is also so full of the Christmas spirit.

There is also The Gift Of Christmas, a duet with Liza Chan-Parpan of a Michael Chan composition. Remember, Liza is the daughter of the famous Jose Mari Chan. Their duet of Christmas In Our Hearts is one of the biggest-selling recordings in local pop music history. She should be able to bring lots of luck to Christian’s album. Besides, although Jose Mari did not write the song, his son Michael did.

Also included are the lovely Nakaraang Pasko by Tats Faustino which still sounds new, Christmas Time, which Christian co-wrote with Jordan Bautista and Ito, plus the standards The Christmas Song; Little Drummer Boy; What A Wonderful World and the traditional, Angels We Have Heard On High, O Come All Ye Faithful and It Came Upon A Midnight Clear. You can listen to these throughout the season and should find lots more to enjoy next year and the next, etc.

Sharon Cuneta - I’m sorry to Aga if he felt slighted

“You can quote me all you want but kindly, just make it accurate kasi, it’s a very sensitive topic and ang dami ko kasing puwedeng sabihin but you know, I don’t know if I’m alone in wanting to save the friendship.

“Kasi, ang totoo nito, ganito lang po ’yon, dapat hindi naman lalabas ’yung mga rason ng tampo ko, kasi seven years na kaming magkaibigang matalik (ni Aga) as in puwede niya akong batukan, puwede ko siyang suntukin, ganu’n,” say ni Sharon saka bumungisngis.

“Kasi, very ano kami... I know him, he knows me, I love his family, minsan pupunta siya sa bahay, kakain siya, si Kiko (Pangilinan, her husband), you know, it was all going very well.

Pero after a while, nakita nilang okey lang, parang nagpatawa na kami’t lahat, pero in the end, sabi ko, ‘joke,’ gumanyan pa ako.

I don’t know, alam n’yo sa mga artista, merong tinatawag na... parang sa inyo rin, mga press kayo, ’yung you know what to write about, ’yung mga huwag na lang, you know what’s not na lang.

“When the Ricky Lo article came out, ang pinaka- na-hurt ako ru’n… by the way, I would just like to say that I never said the project with Gabby (Concepcion) was the horror movie, those are two separate projects.

“Kasi it came out, but Lea immediately, on her Twitter account, tweeted it’s not true, kasi paglabas niya, she sang before me, so, pagbaba niya, nandu’n na ako sa backstage.

“Sabi ko, ‘Lei!,’ tapos nagyakapan kami, tapos sabi ko pa nga ‘you know, we should do a back to back,’ tapos sabi niya, ‘that would be fun.’

“Anyway, to make the long story short, nu’ng lumabas ’yung article ni Tito Ricky, ’yung parang meron lang nabanggit du’n na ‘my DPA thinks’ na parang baka kasi something-something about the movie, and I may have felt rejected na, kasi alam ko naman kung kanino galing lahat.

“Pero ito, between me and Aga ito. Lumaki na ito nang ganito, nagkasakit-sakitan na. After the Ricky Lo article, parang naawa naman ako sa sarili ko, so, I had to defend myself. I had to give reasons.

“I said sorry na through the column of Tito Ricky, and I will say it again to you, I’m sorry to the audience of Ai-Ai, I’m sorry to Ai-Ai, I’m sorry to Aga if he felt slighted, but you know what, I really thought, while it was going on, I had it all under control, na joke kasi talaga.

“The same day, he texted me, pero nakausap ko na si Ricky Lo, sabi niya, ‘I’m sorry, Ems, if I made you feel that way,’ in fairness naman, ‘I didn’t mean to make you feel that way,’ ganyan. And sabi niya, ‘I’ll call you.’

“He was taping with Ai-Ai. But before he could call me back, tinext ko siya na ‘Teng, siguro, huwag muna tayo mag-usap kasi ngongo pa ako sa kaiiyak, tapos nagtatrabaho ka.’ Then, sabi niya, ‘you’re right, basta we’ll talk soon.’ I never heard from him again after my write-up came out,” patuloy pa ng megastar.

Kim Chiu keeps distance from Gerald-Bea breakup

12 Star Power finalists brace for showdown

Another three contenders — Pauline, Joy and Mia — bid goodbye in Star Power last Sunday as the competition for Sharon’s Next Female Pop Superstar gets more difficult and stern.

Sharon Cuneta again advised every contestant — even those who stayed in the contest — that if they don’t make it as the Next Female Superstar, there will surely be other venues where they can make their dreams of stardom come true.

Love was in the air as the contenders fiercely sang their love songs. Inspired by Sharon’s loving mentoring, all of them y dedicated their performances to the one they feel so much love for.

Krissel Valdez introduced her boyfriend while Rose Ann Fransisco admitted to be incomplete without her twin sister. Monica Sacay says her crush is her inspiration for singing this week.

For Laurice Bermillo, the more you love, the “merrier.” That’s why she’s so attached to Piwi, her barkada. Friendship is also significant to Pauline Lutero, who loves her best friend so much.

Other contestants revealed themselves to be in love with pure “entertainment.” Angeline Quinto loves movies. Sam Hernandez adores stage plays. Kaye Racho of Cebu has a passion for Asianovelas.

Being far from her loved ones while battling it out in Star Power, is hard for K-La Rivera of Canada. She expressed her love for her family in Canada with her performance. Macy delos Reyes dedicated her love song to her dorm mates.

Ninay Lescano admires photography while Akiko Solon is inclined to dance. Natasia Cunanan of Bulacan expressed her love for beauty through her favorite nail art.

Joy Laquinario rendered a song on divine love.

To vote for your favorite contestant, text SPOWER and send to 2331 for Globe, TM, and Sun Cellular subscribers and 231 for Smart and Talk ‘N Text subscribers.

Kilig moments at Richard's concert

Richard Poon’s The Crooner concert last Nov. 12 at the PICC Plenary Hall has gained praises from concert goers. Richard wowed the audience when he serenades everyone. With his distinctive voice, chinito looks and endearingly innocent charm, he simply enjoys singing on stage while the attendees obviously enjoyed the night.

Present at that night was Pilipinas Got Talent grand finalist and co-Cornerstone artist Markki Stroem who front acted. According to some who watched the concert, Markki is a potential Richard Poon in the making and resembles to another fellow co-Cornerstone artist Sam Milby. Star Power finalists were also present to perform.

Richard gave tribute to legendary foreign singers whom he idolized. He shared some trivia so people would remember them. Richard personally chose to pay tribute to the singing icons who had influenced him with his music. He sang Tony Bennet’s I left My Heart in San Francisco; Johnny Mathis’ Misty; Nat King Cole’s Unforgettable; Paul Anka’s Put Your Head on My Shoulder; Matt Monro’s Portrait of My Love; Engelbert Humperdinck’s Release Me; and Frank Sinatra’s Let Me Try Again. The love songs made a connection between Richard and his audience.

Richard’s next production number with his elder sister, Eva Marie made the crowd giggle when the latter shared trivia about their childhood Eva even teased her younger brother about his new found love. The siblings sang Chinese songs titled Yue Laing/ Tien Mimi which they dedicated to their parents. A duet rendition of Dahil Sayo (a song recorded by their mother who was a former opera singer) was a heartfelt moment.

Richard never failed to sing some of his hits from his two albums, I’ll Take Care of You, Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko, The Last Time and You and I.

Other special guests were Pokwang who never failed to make people laugh and Lea Salonga who added glamour to the show. Pokwang did more than enough that night to entertain the crowd. She sang her own version of Luha and Hahabul-habol while Richard showed his dancing prowess.

A part that set the mood in the hall was the kilig moment of Richard and Lea. They rendered a duet that was seen long before Richard’s concert. Lea’s impeccable delivery of her song and emotions catches every listener’s heart which sets her apart from other performers. Her duet with Richard included songs like Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Cheek to Cheek and You Make Me Feel So Young. Lea also sang her own rendition of The Way You Look Tonight.

Some songs of the ’80s and ’90s hits were done in a new taste. Just Got Lucky and Eraserheads hit, Pare Ko were never been heard in a new arrangement played by a 25-piece orchestra. The audience had a great time singing listening to Richard’s soulful rendition of the songs Binibini, Sway, No Touch and Grown up Christmas List.

Richard will hold a series of mall shows and an album launch for his CD of duets, I’ll Be Seeing You. Schedule is as follows: tomorrow, Nov. 26, 5 p.m. at SM City North EDSA the Block Atrium; Dec. 4, 6 p.m. at SM Megamall Mega Atrium; Dec. 18, 6 p.m. at SM City Fairview Atrium; Jan. 9, 6 p.m. at the Podium second floor lounge; and Jan. 15, 6 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Main Mall Atrium, with guest, MCA Music’s acoustic artist Sabrina.

Karen Davila forced to accept Bandila job?

Itong si Karen Davila, may statement pa noon na kesyo hindi raw niya tatanggapin ang Bandila dahil sa tampong-pururot niya sa pagkaka-tsugi niya sa TV Patrol, to give way for the return of Korina Sanchez (her supposed-to-be arch-rival).

With two shows sa kasalukuyan -- Showtime on ABS- CBN and Studio 23’s 30w Powhz, this Koreano na former housemate ng PBB was the first one to have a tv show, maliban kay Ejay Falcon, na ahead ng isang taon sa batch ni Ryan.

In Showtime, Ryan is a judge like Vice Ganda. Together, talagang sobra sila, kapag pareho nang nagpapatawa.

An only child, Ryan said he is really a happy person.

Ryan is happy with his Studio 23 show dahil he is daw allotted to explore the country. Without, wika nga, trying.

Ryan has been living in the country with his mom, na isang Koreana rin, for nearly six years.

“Since before I joined the PBB Teen Edition, I only had my mom for my companion. E, Koreana siya. Kaya we talk in Korean,” paliwanag ni Ryan.

KC Concepcion's showbiz career depends on Kapamilya network

Meryll Soriano won't accept projects from ABS-CBN

“Kasi para sa akin, this is the first time na may relasyon kami ng tatay ko. It was a very... you know, nagkaroon ng struggle of time and wala kaming foundation or whatever a father and daughter usually have dahil wala kaming constant communication dati, and hindi nga kami nagkasama.

“This is with regards to law, something na very formal, and ako personally, I listen to my gut feeling na kunyari pupunta ako sa ABS-CBN, parang mali. So, I have to listen to myself,” pahayag ni Meryll nang makatsikahan namin the other day.

“Pero, it fell into place rin, eh. So you know, everything happens for a reason.”

Mark Meily directed the movie.

It’s a kind of movie raw na matagal nang hindi naipapalabas doon, mga 90’s pa o 80’s, talagang they really have high hopes for this movie kasi family movie siya,” kuwento ni Christian.

“It’s gonna be released in Jakarta March, so three days na lang ang shoot.

“It has wonderful songs like your favorites like A Christmas Song
, we have a special song like Christmas Time which I wrote, an original song din with Liza Chan ‘yung anak ni Jose Mari Chan, we have a wonderful duet together, and many other favorite Christmas songs n’yo,” pagtatapos pa ni Christian.

Julius Babao in Bandila

Confirmed: Julius Babao joins Ces Oreña Drilon as anchors of the ABS-CBN late-night newscast Bandila. Ces’ co-anchor Henry Omaga Diaz goes back to being field reporter. By this time, Karen Davila must have made up her mind to also join Bandila. If she did, it would be poetic justice.

Years back when Karen moved from GMA to ABS-CBN, she and Julius became co-anchors of TV Patrol World, with Karen taking the place of Korina who was moved to Bandila until late last year when she quit to help campaign for her husband, former Sen. Mar Roxas, in the presidential race. Korina has reclaimed her post in TV Patrol (now minus World) with former Vice Pres.

Noli de Castro as Ted Failon’s co-anchors. As they say, what goes around comes around. Actually, Karen didn’t have any choice. She couldn’t go back to GMA or go to TV5 (where her husband, DJ Sta. Ana, is head of the news department) since she had already turned down an earlier offer. Besides, the TV5 news slots are filled up. Incidentally, Korina, Noli and Ted do make a formidable trio in the new TV Patrol.

“I have to do Green Rose for my maturity as an actor.

Kabayan's drawing power

When TV Patrol’s viewership ratings hit the roof Monday last week, Nov. 18, the speculation was that this could be a fluke and was nothing more than the result of a curious public’s desire to have a glimpse of the returning former Vice President Noli “Kabayan” de Castro (photo).

But one week since that episode, ratings have reportedly remained consistently impressive. And the view is that televiewer patronage is no longer just the result of curiosity. The public wants a mature, credible news source and De Castro seems to continue to lead in this aspect.

The apparent consensus is that De Castro’s nine years in the political arena have bolstered that sense of maturity and credibility. Televiewers seem to appreciate the fact that De Castro now has a deeper understanding of the issues behind the news and knows most of the personalities in the news first-hand.

The De Castro-TV Patrol phenomenon, however, is nothing new. When TV Patrol was first aired in 1987, De Castro was an original part of the newscast team. At that time, he was also manning DZMM’s primetime news and commentary spot in the morning broadcast.

That was also about the time the popular Magandang Gabi, Bayan started to air and De Castro cemented his claim to the nickname he now sports both in broadcasting and in public service.

During that era, the programs which featured De Castro were already rating well and must have been among the many factors which accounted for the then-unprecedented number of votes he earned in the 2001 senatorial elections where he ranked No. 1.

John Lloyd, Toni in Star Cinema's pre-Christmas Valentine offering

Close on the heels of Till My Heartaches End, starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, Star Cinema is set to release another romance-comedy-drama to usher in the Christmas Season.

Aptly touted as “a pre-Christmas Valentine Offering,” My Amnesia Girl brings together John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga for the first time in a movie, a new match calculated to set off romantic explosions, what with the “magic touch” of director Cathy Garcia-Molina that has been amply proven in several Star Cinema flicks.

In the story, John Lloyd plays Apollo, the only remaining bachelor in the barkada being pressured by his friends to settle down already. But Apollo has a phobia for commitment. Then, he bumps into Toni as Irene, the girlfriend he left two years earlier, with regrets especially when he realized that Irene was “the one who got away.”

Apollo wants to win Irene back but there’s a problem. Irene developed amnesia after a tragic accident and she doesn’t remember anything, not having been dropped by Apollo two years ago.

The question: Will Irene come back to her senses as Apollo pursues her with a passion?

Working with John Lloyd and Toni is not new to direk Cathy.

“I’ve worked with both of them in a few movies, so we know one another’s working attitude,” said Cathy who has become known as a box-office director in her own right because all her projects have been not only commercially but also critically successful.

“It’s always fun working with them separately and it’s doubly fun working with them together,” added Cathy.

My Amnesia Girl also stars Ketchup Eusebio, Carlos Agassi, JM de Guzman, Joross Gamboa, Nico Antonio, Cai Cortez, Bea Saw and Dianne Medina.

ABS-CBN bagged six awards including the coveted top prize the Philippine Quill Award of the Year for Communication Management for its novel and noble disaster response program DZMM Kapamilya Shower Na, which beat 12 other excellence awardees in the category at the 10th Philippine Quill Awards held recently at the Crowne Plaza.

ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs’ Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Ako ang Simula won an Award of Excellence in the Multi-Audience communication category for starting a bigger movement that didn’t only empower Filipinos to use technology to report electoral fraud, but also encouraged Filipinos, especially the youth, to instigate changes from their own homes and communities and to participate in the 2010 elections by registering to vote and patrolling the vote.

Wyngard Tracy Dead

Article from Ricky Lo: A few minutes after the New York-bound JAL touched down at Narita for a stopover, while we were killing time at the airline’s lounge, I told Wyngard Tracy that on the flight from Manila he was snoring like crazy, filling up the whole business class with his rhythmic sound. I was seated directly behind Wyngard and Jose Mari Chan was two seats away, quietly enjoying dreamland in his business suit.

“Did I?” asked Wyngard, looking up from the glossy magazine he was reading and the juice he was drinking.

Yes, he did snore but it wasn’t really that “scandalous,” sounding only like the buzzing of a bee searching for a warm arm to bite. I purposely exaggerated to humor Wyngard who had the exceptional ability (something I endlessly envied) to doze off as soon as he fastened his seatbelt for the takeoff and to rub his eyes awake as soon as the “fasten your seatbelt” sign went on.

Relieved perhaps that I was only joking, on the 12-hour flight from Narita to New York, Wyngard did the same — merrily but quietly snored his way through, requesting the stewardess not to rouse him even for meals.

I imagined Wyngard quietly snoring as if dreaming the most beautiful of dreams, lit up by the non-stop singing of his favorite singers (with Side A, the band he managed, as backgrounder), as he lay in coma for more than a month at the ICU of Makati Med where he underwent a five-point surgery that included a double bypass, an aorta repair and valve replacement on July 28. The doctors were surprised how Wyngard quickly recovered. Barely two months later, I saw him as good as new, minus a few pounds, at GMA. He was back in the grind, even attending some parties, until exactly a month ago today when he suffered a stroke that brought him back to Makati Med.

All throughout, June Torrejon kept friends posted on Wyngard’s “recovery” progress — he opened his eyes very slightly, he moved his hands very slightly, he smiled very slightly, he seemed to want to talk but he was prevented from doing it by the ventilator stuck into his mouth, etc.

And yesterday morning, Wyngard’s friends got what may be one of the saddest text messages ever — Wyngard has joined the Lord at past 3 a.m., Nov. 16 — followed four hours later by another one — Wyngard’s remains were cremated as per his last wish; there won’t be any wake, but a party is scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 18.

That fast. How fleeting life is, how ephemeral, how temporary! Recalling how my own little brother was cremated 15 years ago, I imagined Wyngard’s 200-plus bulk being reduced to ashes second by second, minute by minute, until what remained was a handful. How humbling! My favorite song started playing and replaying in my mind: All we are is dust in the wind...nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky…The body that Wyngard pampered with his favorite food (like the mouth-watering steak at Gustavus that he, Raoul Tidalgo and I shared for dinner barely three months before Wyngard’s heart surgery), his favorite bath soap, his favorite perfume and with regular therapeutic massage…that body weighs no more than half a pound now, safely gathered in an urn.

Yesterday, friends and colleagues gathered for Mass at the La Salle Greenhills Chapel and bid Wyngard their fond farewell, including (as expected) the talents he had “inherited” from Douglas Quijano who died in his sleep in June last year — among them, Richard Gomez and his wife Lucy Torres, and John Estrada. Wyngard Tracy. Douglas Quijano. Two good men gone too soon.

Sarah Geronimo may matinding pinagdaraanan!

Ang ilan dito : “Do you wonder why you have to feel the things that hurt you? If there’s a God who loves you, where is He now?” at “Hold on and wait for the light. Press on and just fight the good fight. ‘Cause the pain that you’ve been feeling, it’s just the dark before the morning!”

“We owe it to the public.

Kris Aquino is 'not guilty'

Funfare wants to ‘absolve’ First Sister Kris Aquino in The STAR scoop about her Kuya P-Noy and Liz Uy that came out last Friday.

The STAR’s VDPA (Very Deep Penetration Agent) was somebody else very close to the Aquino family and not Kris who was quoted in the story from previous interviews.

Funfare learned that Kris was ‘scolded’ by her sisters and by P-Noy for ‘meddling’ in his love life, so Kris has again decided to keep mum from hereon (although she might still be active in her Twitter account, the same one P-Noy advised her to remove just several days after he took his oath of office last June 30).

Also, the front-page STAR story (preceded by a ‘blind item’ in this corner) was clear in saying that “if and when P-Noy and Liz do end up as sweethearts,” those close to P-Noy would love
to see them wed on Oct. 11, 2011, the wedding anniversary of former Pres. Cory Aquino and former Sen. Ninoy Aquino. The words “will marry” were not used; rather, they “might”…if and when.

P-Noy and Liz share the same birthday, Feb. 8, not 18 as mentioned in the two stories.

Jodi Sta. Maria in ‘scandalous' scene

JODI Sta. Maria started as a sweet teen star in “Tabing Ilog,” with Kaye Abad, Desiree del Valle and Paola Peralejo. She remains the most active among them, busy with the soap “Noah” and in mainstream films like “Cinco.” She’s also very visible in indie films and has won the CineManila best actress award for “Sisa.” She now plays her most daring role ever in “Chassis,” about homeless people in South Harbor who live under hauling trucks. She has a truck driver husband (Lemuel Pelayo) who earns very little so she sells her body as a sideline to provide for her daughter (Kimberly Fulgar), the only ray of light in her dark life who she sends to school as she’s a bright kid. But the girl dies in a hit and run accident.

The film has minimal dialogue and the viewer has to supply all the missing pieces by making his own conclusions about the narrative. The final scene will shock you. Jodi gets into a truck and opens the pants of the driver (Paolo Rivero). She gets his cock (Jodi is actually shown holding it) then the camera pans up to Paolo while Jodi gives him head. Then Paolo screams in pain and Jodi is shown slicing off his member. It’s not clear if Paolo was the driver who killed her child but that’s what you’d conclude after seeing what she did to him.

We saw the film’s integral version at its UP screening and we don’t know if it would be shown uncut in our theatres with its sexually explicit and very violent ending.

But it’s been screened at the Pusan and Toronto International Filmfest and here’s what foreign critics wrote about it. From Variety: “Continuing to examine those on the margins of Filipino society, helmer Alix casts a compassionate eye on a homeless young mother fiercely determined to give her young daughter a better life... Immaculately shot, Sta. Maria is quietly compelling as a woman with a single, unshakable reason to live.”

From Cinelation: “One of the year's best."

From the Mar del Plata International Filmfest where it now competes: “The film’s resolution doesn’t hesitate to combine neorealism’s discomfort with the fatalist bitterness of the best Fassbinder."

From Pusan International Filmfest: "This is a bold film by Adolfo Alix Jr. that criticizes society, venting sympathy and anger at the same time."

From Tony Rayns of Vancouver International Filmfest: "This scrupulously precise social-realist drama, shot in steely monochrome, and its savage, explicit ending make it suitable for adults only."

We wonder what Jodi’s husband who’s the son of Sen. Ping Lacson would feel and say when he sees his wife doing such a scandalous scene in “Chassis”?

Meryll Soriano To Study in London

Kaya nga heto, she’s enrolling in London para mag-aral doon ng acting.

Bianca Manalo Happy For the Break

Asked to comment about it, say ni Bianca ay hindi raw niya alam ’yun.

So, nagpunta po ako. Very Bianca, very Gigi.' So, ginawa ko ang 'very Bianca, very Gigi' na sinasabi nila. So, ano pong iisipin ko?

Phomela Barranda removed from TV Patrol

When a law was passed banning transplants between Filipinos and foreigners ,she decides to marry the Arab patient, a man she barely knows, for the transplant to take place.

Bandila is Bandila.

Kris not dropping 'Yap' yet

Has Kris Aquino dropped “Yap” from her name?

That’s what an online story is saying but Kris is denying it.

Contacted by The STAR for clarification, Kris said that when she read this paper’s Conversation article with her estranged husband James Yap last Sunday, “I was appreciative of him saying that Bimby is much closer to me.”

Bimby is Kris’ pet monicker for their son Baby James.

Saying that she and James are better friends and understand each other better now, Kris told The STAR that last Sunday, she and James watched the movie “Megamind” together with Bimby and Joshua. It was their first time to go out on a date since they broke up in May before the presidential elections in which Kris’ Kuya Noynoy won.

“After the movie,” Kris added, “we rode with James’ in his car and we even had dinner together at my place.”

And that’s when the “drop Yap” rumor must have started.

Kris said that “Cool” by Gwen Stefani is “my song for James.” Apparently, Stefani wrote the song for an “ex” who has found a new love and with whom she has remained friends.

Part of the song says: It’s hard to remember how it felt before, now I found the love of my life…We used to think it’s impossible, now you call me by my new last name…

“Oh, di ba bagay sa amin ang lyrics?” said Kris.

The un-couple’s annulment case is now being heard.

“But of course,” added Kris, “once the court approves the annulment, magiging Kris Aquino na lang uli, no more Yap.”

But until then, she will have to remain legally Mrs. Kris Aquino-Yap.

Noy wishes Shalani Soledad well in her TV career

President Aquino wished his former girlfriend Shalani Soledad well yesterday in her venture into show business.

The Valenzuela City councilor is the co-host of comedian Willie Revillame on the TV5 game show “Willing Willie.”

“I understand she looks at it as a perspective to broaden her ability to serve her constituents. So I hope the upside will be fully attained, she finds fulfillment and happiness in it. As far as the downside of being in show biz is concerned, hopefully (it) will be very mitigated or non-existent,” Mr. Aquino said.

Soledad had her debut as Revillame’s co-host last night. She thanked the TV station’s management and the public for the new opportunity given her.

Sources said Soledad informed the President that she was joining Revillame, who supported Mr. Aquino’s rival in the last elections, Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Sen. Manuel Villar Jr.

The President and Soledad broke up in September. While both of them have yet to give direct confirmation, the President had said that it was quite clear to both parties as to where they stood now and that “we now have separate lives.”

But the President could not say whether he could watch Soledad’s show since he has a lot of materials to study for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Japan this week.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, on the other hand, said it would be former Sen. Manuel Roxas II who would surely be watching his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez, when asked if Mr. Aquino would watch “TV Patrol,” where Sanchez returns as an anchor. Sanchez is also a former girlfriend of the President.

Councilor Shalani Soledad as Host on Willing Willie?

As you must have guessed from the slightly blurred picture that came out in this corner yesterday, yes, Willie Revillame’s “mystery” lady co-host on his two-week-old TV5 show Willing Willie is none other than Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad who will take a bow in tonight’s edition of the show. It will be a full-time job for her, Monday thru Friday at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 5 to 7 p.m.

Will she still have time to attend to her duties as konsehala? It remains to be seen. Daily TV-hosting is very demanding, you know.

It’s interesting to find out how the sweet and shy Shalani will turn out as a TV host. Will she come out of her shell, loosen up considerably, unloose her tongue, “re-invent” herself (to her rescue, please, Liz Uy!) and swing to the beat of the two-hour show? Or will she be hosting a segment that fits her mahinhin image?

Funfare Update learned that Willie did try to enlist Miss Universe-Philippines (that’s how she must be known henceforth) Venus Raj but the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) obviously didn’t give her the go-signal. Venus is under contract and in the care of the BPCI for one year.

Shalani’s entry coincided with the revamp of the ABS-CBN early-evening newscast TV Patrol (now minus World), bumping off Karen Davila (who has remained incommunicado) and Julius Babao (still vacationing with his family in Japan) but retaining Ted Failon as main host together with Balik-Patrol hosts Korina Sanchez and Kabayan Noli de Castro.

For sure, GMA’s 24 Oras, also on the same timeslot, won’t be left behind. Watch out what “surprises” hosts Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco are going to spring on televiewers.

As I’ve been saying, both TV Patrol and 24 Oras have been airing even after 8 p.m. depending on the load for a long time now, and not, as per speculations, because they are keeping up with Willing Willie which has dislodged TV5’s Aksyon newscast hosted by Paolo Bediones and Cheryl Cosim, making them so “disposable.”
