Dolphy, Ai Ai deserve MMFF awards

Nagbago kasi ang ruling ang MMFF regarding nominations this year.

That is foul.

So, this will also explain the brouhaha between Ai-Ai’s winning and Jennylyn’s nomination snob!

Anyway, sabi nga nila just like in any other awards or competition, the decision of the judges or jurors are always final.

Might as well renamed the MMFF awards to People’s Choice Awards kung gagawin nang text voting ang pagpili ng winners!

Kris Aquino and Ted Failon Talk Show?

Hindi ba, ’yung Lord of the Rings, may prequel? One, two, three, tapos,” pahayag ng komedyana.

Bong Revilla, Jr. at Vic Sotto ng more than P30 million — as of 10 p.m. last Saturday night — Metro Manila P15,591,091 at P15,194,156 million sa probinsiya.

By the way, nagkaroon na ng victory party si AiAi kagabi.

Ang kuwenta ni Kris, kailangang maka-P90 million gross ang movie para makabawi, P100 million para sila’y maging masaya, “At P130 million for us to be very, very happy.”

Third day showing na ngayon ng eight entries sa Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), may trend na kung magiging very happy o very, very happy sina Kris at kung matutupad ang wish nitong mag-number three ang Dalaw sa box-office.

Natawa kami sa tsika ni Kris na habang umaarte siya, kinukuwenta niya sa isip niya ang nagagastos ng pelikula nila, kaya as much as possible, ayaw niyang mag-retake ng eksena dahil mahal at panibagong gastos.

SHAKE RATTLE AND ROLL 12 (OFFICIAL ENTRY FOR M.M.F.F 2010) (TEASER / TRAILER # 01)
Just like with the previous installments, this film has three scary stories: Mamanyika, Isla Engkanto and Punerarya.

"Mamanyika" marks the big screen directorial debut of Zoren Legaspi. The story is about an orphaned girl who gets a doll that turns out to be evil and kills people. Shaina Magdayao and Ricky Davao lead the cast.

Director Topel Lee, fresh from the box-office office success of another Regal suspense-thriller, "White House," combines fantasy and horror in the "Isla Engkanto" episode. Starring are Andi Eigenmann and Rayver Cruz, two of the finest performers of their generation. John Lapus and Regine Angeles co-star.

"Punerarya" is about a family who owns a funeral parlor, but actually satisfies their hunger by making meals out of the dead bodies. Sid Lucero, Carla Abellana, Mart Escudero lead the cast, with child actor Nash Aguas, who bagged the best child performer award in Topel's "Yaya" episode in "SRR X." Director is Jerrold Tarog.

Diether Ocampo The Giver

Diether Ocampo doesn’t just look at the faces of children who have nothing to eat. He sees himself in those hungry faces. More importantly, he just doesn’t sit there doing nothing.

The image of himself as a boy carrying a casserole and asking food from his grandma and aunt to share with his siblings in Cavite is still etched in his mind.

So Diether has decided to bring his works of charity to the next level. He volunteered to help raise funds for the United Nation’s World Food Programme, especially in conflict-torn areas like Mindanao.

“A lot of kids can’t study because they don’t eat right,” he says. “Let’s give them a good Christmas.”

He has affixed his signature to a Christmas postcard available at Pizza Hut to anyone who donates P40 to United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP). Until yearend, Pizza Hut will give P10 to the WFP campaign for every order of the Pizza Hut-WFP Bundle Feast. Taco Bell will also donate P10 for every purchase of Nachos Bellgrande Combo Meal.

And since target amount is a whopping P2.5-M, Diether showed up at the Pizza Hut branch at SM Megamall to promote the campaign himself.

It was not exactly the best of days for him. He was feeling under the weather, but he knew he had a job to do.

“There’s a special purpose why I’m here,” he muses. “I’m happy I realized it while it’s still early. And I’m glad I am being used to create awareness for youth problems which would otherwise remain unnoticed.”

Diether is just as happy to know that he’s not alone. He already talked to KC Concepcion about his anti-hunger campaign when they toured Cotabato, Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat and other places in Mindanao to distribute school supplies.

“It’s nice to be with someone who can relate to what you’re doing,” he beams. Piolo Pascual, he adds, is one of them.

Diether knows other Star Magic talents like him who also long to help but they just don’t know where to start. So it’s best that he shows them how.

“Hungry school children can’t think straight,” he warns. “Hunger even affects the unborn. A hungry would-be mother is starting a chain reaction.”

Thus, he is asking for as much help as he can get. It doesn’t have to be money, he goes on.

“Volunteering your time and effort in your area goes a long way.”

Also making this Christmas extra different for Diether is Dalaw, his first Metro Filmfest movie. He is also in Slow Fade, one of the five indies shown last week, as a prelude to the Metro Filmfest.

“It’s my first Metro Filfmfest and I’m very excited,” he gushes.

The presence of his co-star, Kris Aquino on the set, may intimidate others. But not Diether, who had a breeze working with her.

“She’s very professional, a workaholic and someone with a big heart.”

Even if some of the staff and crew members have already stopped working, Kris — Madame Kris to him — is still up and about, reports Diether.

His Dalaw co-star also pledged to contribute to the programs of Diether’s Kids Foundation.

This season of sharing, Diether is never one to be left behind.

Rocksteddy- Christmas Single Lyrics and Video

Rocksteddy- Christmas Single Lyrics:

Ng Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to me

Lahat sila may syotang malupet ikaw walang ka-date

Ng Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to me

(Guitar)

Alfred Vargas in Mutya

Star Cinema gears up for 3 entries in MMFF

It was a very fruitful year for Star Cinema this 2010.

Managing director Malou Santos is very happy for the whole year for the company as the year ends.

“Before the Metro Manila Film Festival, we had My Amnesia Girl which did very well at the box-office. In fact it is still showing until now, and still in over 100 theaters, a remarkable feat considering that it is on its 4th week already.”

We are very very happy and surprised with Toni Gonzaga, because what she showed with the project is another facet that showcased her wide range of acting prowess from comedy and drama.”

“John Lloyd gave another astounding performance. We are very happy that John Lloyd has been honed by Star Cinema through the years. It was teamwork at its finest.”

With My Amnesia Girl grossing at the box-office and receiving excellent reviews, Santos is gearing up for the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival because three different movies were fielded by Star Cinema that caters to widest, most discerning taste of the Filipino audience.

“Ang Tanging Ina Mo, was first produced seven years ago, and it made box-office success and earned Ai-Ai delas Alas the title of being the county’s undisputed Comedy Box Office Queen. Now, as we bring the final installment to the Ina series, we promise to give only the best conclusion to the story that our Kapamilyas embraced through the years.”

“Kris Aquino meanwhile, is our undisputed horror box-office star, and Feng Shui and Sukob made box-office history in the horror genre. After four years she goes back to Star Cinema not just as an actor but as co-producer through Dalaw and her professionalism is unparalleled in production and promotions.

Last, but not the least, RPG: Metanoia. “After five years, the movie will be finally shown,” Santos shares. “This is the baby of Ambient Media and Star Cinema and will feature the voices of the country’s biggest superstars, Aga Muhlach, Vhong Navarro, Eugene Domingo and Zaijian Jaranilla. We are very proud of the project because it strands on the door of history as we usher in a new phase in Philippine filmmaking as we come up with the first 3D animation that is proudly Filipino-made.”

Dalaw will make you feel restless

Folklore has it that when a person experienced a violent death, his or her spirit becomes restless and does not leave the earthly plane to sow terror and exact vengeance.

It is from this simple storyline that Dalaw weaves a complex narrative that results in a competent making of a horror film.

Dondon Santos, who helmed the film, is successful in sustaining the fear and fright factor of the movie. Working on the highly-functioning script penned by Joel Mercado, Lawrence Nicodemus and John Paul Abellera, Santos did his best again — just like what he showed in the critically-acclaimed Noy — and gave Dalaw an admirable treatment.

Dalaw tells the story of Stella (Kris Aquino) who starts experiencing major ghost haunting when she decides to remarry after his violent husband Danilo died in a freak accident. She successively dreams of Danilo to the point that when she and her new husband Anton (Diether Ocampo) wake up one morning, they find framed photographs of Stella and Danilo neatly arranged in their room. This and other paranormal incidents escalate Stella’s belief that it is Danilo’s spirit that haunts and scares them.

Unlike other horror flicks that fall flat because of the predictability of their plots, Dalaw keeps its audience restless, too, at the edge of their seats with their hearts leaping out of their chests because of the movie’s terrifying yet unpredictable twists and turns. The director uses the tried-and-tested formula for keeping the suspense well-sewn in the minds of the audience — by using human frailty to shield the movie from revealing the real and sternly obstinate poltergeist. Human frailty, in Anton’s case, has something to do with his conscious effort and almost successful attempt to hide from his wife an intrinsically grim truth — that happened days before his betrothal to her — that leads to the haunting. In an almost canonical truth-will-set-you-free stance, the ghostly attacks are put to a stop. Of course with a price.

Horror films like Dalaw warrant crisp and snappy editing to sustain the suspense factor of each frame. It helps that the film editing achieves that discipline and successfully lends credibility to the material. The production design may be a little in-your-face, what with a house strategically located near a cemetery, but it is conquering nevertheless in unleashing more horror texture of the film. The image of the ghost is so real and creepy that you see it even when your eyes are shut. Though a few elements of suspense and over scoring are calculated and exhibited in the beginning of the film, Dalaw easily progresses as an imaginatively crafted movie, especially when intelligent tension starts to pick up. The cinematography is so real you feel you are involved in the scene.

Kris, in many moments, is a revelation in this film. She acts in her silence and displays depth of character. The gabby and highly-opinionated Kris is not present in the movie; instead, many times, she is quiet in Dalaw. It is in her silence that Kris, as Stella, is able to paint a gamut of emotions. She clearly essays out resignation of fortitude when she is in the company of her cousins who belittle her. But the most felt emotion of Kris is her fear and fright that both register well in her eyes, voice and body movement. She intelligently tackles her role in Dalaw. My favorite moment of Kris in the movie is her scene with her dead mother-in-law (Susan Africa) who appeared to her to “open her eyes” to the truth about the menacing acts of the angry spirit. That particular scene, sans any dialogue, shows a quietly disturbed and disturbing Kris.

Karylle’s performance in Dalaw also merits a commendation. Her role is short but not necessarily sweet. She clearly defines her interpretation of her character — from being a forlorn sweetheart to a vengeful lover. And with her sincere acting she proves all the more that “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

Diether has his moments, too, but in few instances, his handsome mien distracts you from thinking that you are watching a horror film.

Susan and Gina Pareño (Olga) add to the powerhouse cast. Their acting is, as usual, seamless and luminous.

Dalaw will make you feel restless long after the avenging spirit has finally been at rest.

Nobody has the right to treat me like that.

Kris Aquino dalawang oras inimbestigahan

Therefore walang issue ‘di ba, parang nag-a-agree sila so we have to conduct a collusion investigation. To make sure na totoo ang arguments ng parties na humingi ng annulment, hindi ‘yung gumagawa,” paglilinaw ni Atty. Gardiva.

“If there is a Collusion investigation, and it’s part of state’s duty to really investigate and protect the sanctity of the family and to see kung puwede pa bang maayos o kung may magagawang paraan, siguro ako na ang pinaka-unang magko-comply at sasagot ng katanungan niya. He asked me a lot and I answered a lot,” pahayag naman ni Kris.

“It’s not like we’re bestfriends but you know we are friends primarily because we’re co-parents. More than anything siguro ang duty namin na maging okay kami for the sake of our son. It’s good timing for both of us, mas mapayapa ang magiging Pasko namin,” dagdag pa ni Kris.

Piolo Pascual: To Charo and Gabby with love

“I have to close my eyes and open it again. I couldn’t believe it.”

That was Piolo Pascual, appearing a bit stunned, after ABS-CBN top executives — Gabby Lopez and Charo Santos-Concio — asked for his autograph during the recent launch of the coffeetable book, Piolo Revealed.

Gabby and Charo made Piolo sign the respective copies of the book, which contains photos taken and compiled by noted lensman Raymund Isaac.

“I have to pinch myself that my big bosses came up to me and asked me to sign their books,” Piolo said. “It was rather hard to believe that.”

Despite the dizzying success he’s been enjoying, Piolo apparently remains grounded. Without letting success get into his head, he is grateful to the people who have helped him along the way.

The 200-page, limited edition coffeetable book features Piolo’s never-before-seen photos taken by Raymund, plus short interviews with the premiere actor. There are also scenic shots in Palawan which Piolo himself captured through his own lens.

One of the highlights of the coffeetable book are photos in 3D format, that’s why the package comes with 3D glasses for the reader to further appreciate the shots.

Piolo and Raymund’s professional association dates a long way back, from the time Piolo did his first starring role in director Mel Chionglo’s Lagarista, 10 years ago. Since then, Piolo has been working closely with Raymund for the actor’s required pictorials, especially for product endorsements.

Also present during the launch at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street were ABS-CBN executives Deo Endrinal, Johnny Manahan, Mariole Alberto, director Joyce Bernal, Gretchen Barretto, Dr. Vicki Belo and daughter Cristalle Belo Henares, Ervic Vijandre of Survivor Philippines and Piolo’s now-popular nanny, Moi Bien.

ABS-CBN secured all slots in the top ten most watched programs nationwide for the same month.

ABS-CBN also continues to dominate the weekend ratings game with “MMK” still ruling all weekend programs with 25.1% followed by “Wansapanataym” (24.5%) and “TV Patrol Weekend” (21.7%).

Also included in the top ten programs for November are fashionserye ”Magkaribal” (26.8%) and kiddie gag show ”Goin Bulilit” (20.7%).

Nationwide, ABS-CBN is the most watched TV station with an average audience share of 37% vs GMA 7’s 33.2%

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, generated net income of P2.9 billion for the first nine months of 2010, as it sustained into the third quarter the strong growth momentum in regular advertising revenues in the first semester. This profit level is more than double the net income of P1.3 billion in the first nine months of 2009.

Kantar Media, a global market research group, offers audience research measurement systems in 32 countries. It started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely the National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.

Likewise I read also all the tweets of Cristine obviously she’s referring to Sarah G.

And also walang confirmation na may pinaparinggan siya.

Cristine Reyes vs Sarah Geronimo in Twitter

Nagsimula ang tweet ni Cristine last Sunday sa post niyang “I AM SO PISSED RIGHT NOW!”
Bakit Hindi mo totohanin in REAL LIFE?"
At nakamicrophone pa! Ginagawa bigamy katawa-tawa!"
"What a backstabber with a super goody goody image and super sweet smile!"
"I'm not yet done with you. MOVE ON"
"Baka naman till now, e, hoping ka pa?
Tutal show mo yun e.
Magtu-tweet ako ng kahit ano dahil sakin to."
"I'm so sure magdadrama na naman yan. Paawa effect. Very talented. Best actress! Grand slam! Mabuhay ka IDOL! Bow ako sayo"
"MAGBIRO?!?
Ito ang last tweet niya as we write this column.
“Ate Annadasig yung alaga mo pagsabihan mo wag ako! Nananahimik ako.”
“Siya nagsimula. Hindi ako! Annadasig!”
“Annadasig at kapag magpaparinig man o magbibiro make sure its true!

Erik Santos wants to go sexy

WHAT could balladeer Erik Santos’ wish for Christmas?

“I want to conquer the Asian market. My Brickman album did not meet my expectations when it was released outside the Philippines. Okay naman ang mga selections dito. It could be that it wasn’t fully promoted since I had shows to attend to in the United States. Locally, the album became gold and is now nearing platinum,” the singer revealed.

Erik has yet to do duets with top-caliber artists like Charice Pempengco or Lea Salonga. We wouldn’t mind if he swaps tunes with Billy Crawford who gained recognition in Europe. “That sounds great. I am open to ideas like this. I believe in re-inventing yourself. Haven't you noticed how foreign artists both male and female inject the sex element in their performances especially in the music videos? Kung makakatulong sa aking career, why not? Just wait at gugulatin ko na lamang kayong lahat,” he said.

Are we to see a semi-nude cover of Erik on his next album?

The partnership of Erik and SM Supermalls gave birth to SM holiday theme song “The Christmas ChriSMs Bop.” It has the perfect beat to accompany shoppers as they go through their Christmas lists. As a special treat, Erik also made his own version of the song which is included in his new album, “All I Want this Christmas.”

Over the years Erik has become an icon in Christmas traditions and in the past had a thanksgiving show entitled “Paskong Pasasalamat” ni Erik Santos. The Christmas Classic “Sana Ngayong Pasko” is dubbed as one of the most moving versions ever sung by a local artist.

Alfred Vargas balik Kapamilya

John Lloyd Cruz made Toni cry

ISANG victory blowout ang inihandog ng Star Cinema sa cast and crew ng kanilang still showing na blockbuster movie, My Amnesia Girl, directed by three-time box-office director Cathy Garcia Molina.

Malou Santos, managing director ng Star Cinema who just arrived the day before from the U.S., was profused with thanks to Direk Cathy, John Lloyd and Toni.

In turn, Direk Cathy thanked Malou for the trust and for giving her good projects na somehow ay nakasisiguro nang magiging blockbuster.

“I trust in the team-up nina Direk Cathy at John Lloyd.

“In Toni’s case, she herself always delivers kahit sino pa ang kanyang leading man,” pahayag naman ni Malou.

Why Toni was in tears while she delivered her speech was because she could not believe that through My Amnesia Girl, she realized her dream na makatambal si John Lloyd sa isang pelikula.

“Yes, I cannot thank John Lloyd enough.”

Also present sa nabanggit na gathering was Atoy Co, the basketball hero of his generation who played John Lloyd’s kunsintidor na tatay.

Playing John Lloyd’s barkada in the film are Joross Gamboa, Ketchup Eusebio and JM de Guzman.

* * *

JOHN Lloyd said what he likes most about the promo of My Amnesia Girl was that tulad ng kanyang team-up with Bea Alonzo (na kadalasan din ay matagumpay), wala ni katiting na insinuation, kumbaga, na may namamagitan sa kanila ni Toni.

“#1 I’m not under contract w/ Bench. #2 I don’t have a share in Bench ownership. And #3 shalani hasn’t done me any harm, in fact I’m very appreciative of her effort to help Noy’s campaign & I wish her well w/ her new show.

Emir wins Best Artistic Contribution Award at 34th Cairo International Fest

Director Chito Roño’s musical Emir won the Yussef Chahine Award for Best Artistic Contribution at the 34th Cairo International Film Festival in Egypt held last Thursday.

Chito was in Cairo to receive the trophy and plaque awarded by Festival Director Ezzat Abou Ouf.

Honorary Festival Director and legendary actor Omar Sharif (in photo, left, with Chito and STAR “international correspondent” Ferdy Lapuz, right) presented the Best Film Award to Egypt’s Lust.

Sharif has appeared in more than a hundred films including big Hollywood productions like Funny Girl opposite Barbra Streisand in 1968, Dr. Zhivago opposite Julie Christie in 1965 and Lawrence of Arabia in 1962 where he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the Academy Awards.

Emir was produced by the Film Develoment Council of the Philippines in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It stars Sid Lucero, Jhong Hilario, Dulce, Kalila Aguilos, Julia Clarete, Beverly Salviejo and GMA contract star Frencheska Farr in her first starring role.

Chito was very excited with the award. He would like to share it with the FDCP (former chairperson Rolando Atienza and Digna Santiago as producers), CCP (Nestor O. Jardin), Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, the actors and his staff: writer Jerry Gracio, cinematographer Neil Daza, production designer Rodrigo Riccio, editor Jerrold Tarog and musicians Ebe Dancel, Vin Dancel, Diwa de Leon, Gary Granada and Chino Toledo.

With the award that he won, Chito is planning to direct an independent film next year.

Prior to Cairo, Emir was shown at the Pusan International Film Festival and is slated to screen at several film festivals next year.

Two Filipino films competed in the digital competition section: Joel Lamangan’s Sigwa and Danny Anonuevo’s Rekrut. Ferdy is the agent for Anonuevo and Emir.

The FDCP under new chairman Briccio Santos supported the participation of the Filipino films in Cairo.

Philippine Team Wins Amazing Race Asia 4

A team from the Philippines finished first on Amazing Race Asia!

Here’s what the final three teams have to go through in the final leg of the race (courtesy of Wikipedia):

In the last leg’s Detour, teams must choose between Stay Up and Add Up. In Stay Up, teams must successfully ride a wave for an accumulated time of two minutes at the Wave House in Sentosa Island. In Add Up, teams must head to the Gmax Reverse Bungee and add up three numbers called out by the host and get the sum correctly to receive their next clue. In this leg’s Roadblock, one team member must make a tightrope walk from tower 1 to tower 2 of the Marina Bay Sands Resort to get their clue. They must then make their way back to tower 1 to finish the task.

Additional Tasks

* At the Cavenagh Bridge, teams must locate the lion dancers to receive their next clue.

* At the Red House Seafood Restaurant, teams must extract 1 kilogram of chili crab to receive their next clue.

* Teams must search one of four Caltex stations and find a vintage car. If the vintage car is no longer in the Caltex Station, the team must proceed to a different Caltex station.

* At the St. James Power Station, teams have two minutes to unlock their handcuffs and perform an escape illusion to receive their next clue.

* At the Marina Bay Sands Resort, teams must ride a marked elevator to the Sky Park Swimming Pool where teams will be tested with their memory on the race. Once they’ve retrieved seven rings, they can receive their next clue.

Pals Richard Hardin, a 34-year-old basketball player and Richard Herrera, a 31-year-old model, finished the race first and became the first Philippine team to do so. Previous PHL teams Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez finished third in season 2 while Geoff Rodriguez and Tisha Silang almost won in season 3 when they finished second.

The Richards bested the rebel pals team from Singapore (2nd) and the father and daughter team from Indonesia (3rd). They won US$100,000.00 for winning the 4th season of Amazing Race Asia.

Pilipinas Got Talent - PGT Season 2 kicks off

ABS-CBN’s Pilipinas Got Talent is set to conquer your TV screens once more as its much-awaited second season kicks off this first quarter of 2011.

Auditions started recently where thousands of hopefuls coming from Visayas and Mindanao flocked to the Cebu Institute of Technology University in Cebu and Philippine Women’s College in Davao and showed what they got in hopes of following the footsteps of PGT’s first grand winner Jovit Baldivino.

The team only visited two locations but the turnout of applicants already surpassed the combined number of applicants who auditioned in almost 20 cities during the first season.

“The number of people who auditioned is very overwhelming. We can’t even take a break because the number of hopefuls to be interviewed and to be watched will surely pile up in a matter of minutes,” said Rancy Recato, PGT executive producer.

Pinoys showed better and more intense talents be it singing, dancing, or even unique and unconventional acts.

Even applicants during the first season auditioned once more and trying their second shot at stardom.

Pilipinas Got Talent is one of the most successful and most watched talent-reality show on Philippine TV and its grand winner Jovit is definitely soaring greater heights with the break given to him by the show. Even finalists like the breakdancing Velasco Brothers, Ezra Band, singers Sherwin Baguion and Markki Stroem, magician Alakim, ventriloquist Ruther Urquia, and guitarist Keith Clark Delleva are already making their marks and taking their respective paths in the industry.

The show also performed very well in ratings. It was able to hit a high of 43.1 percent only on its second week of airing based on national ratings data from Kantar Media.

PGT also trended a couple of times in the famous social networking site Twitter, which only proves how widely viewed the show is by Pinoys worldwide.

To all PGT hopefuls, you can audition on Dec. 15 and 16 at the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan, and on Dec. 18 and 19 at the ABS-CBN complex in Manila. Everyone is welcome to join, be it young or old; solo or in groups; as long as you have the talent to sing, dance, do magic, do extreme exhibitions, and any other possible form of talents. Other audition legs on other parts of the country will be held on January 2011.

Ai-Ai's next target: A Best Actress award

Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ’To, Star Cinema’s entry to the Metro Manila Filmfest.

“I think I deserve it,” she tells members of the press.

After all, playing a widowed mother of 12 who discovers that she has only six to eight months to live in Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ’To is not easy.

The challenge of turning something grim into something hilarious in the tradition of the three previous Ang Tanging Ina Mo films (which started in 2003) series is enough to make even a seasoned comedienne like Ai-Ai think many times over.

Eugene Domingo, Ai-Ai’s reel and real-life friend, again comes to the rescue.

“Master na namin ang isa’t isa,” says Ai-Ai, looking at Eugene beside her. This explains their knee jerk reactions to each other’s punchlines; the chemistry that makes their scenes look so spontaneous.

So at home are they with each other Ai-Ai and Eugene plan to carry over their friendship outside the set by producing “the really last Tanging Ina Mo movie.”

Ai-Ai is taking the cue from co-stars and real-life friends George Clooney and Brad Pitt. If they can work together and remain friends at the same time, why can’t she and Eugene?

Speaking of why nots, German “Kuya Germs” Moreno came up with an idea while attending Ai-Ai’s presscon. Why not give her a star in the local version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame?

“I will include you in the Walk of Fame (in Eastwood, Quezon City, where showbiz bigwigs have their own star),” he told Ai-Ai. “Just promise me you’ll be in the awarding ceremony in December next year.”

Ai-Ai didn’t think twice when she replied, “I’ll start going there right now!”

Ai-Ai need not start anywhere when it comes to her priorities.

The self-confessed adopted daughter (of her paternal aunt) admits she is grateful and overflowing with respect towards the lady who looked after her. But Ai-Ai’s biological mom back in Calatagan, Batangas still reigns supreme in her heart.

”I wouldn’t have gone to school and become the actress I am now without the aunt who bought me diapers and gave me milk as a baby,” Ai-Ai relates.

She discovered who she really is by accident.

“My aunt’s officemates at the Bureau of Lands kept on asking me, ’Is she (Ai-Ai’s aunt) really your mom?’”

One day, the then seven-year-old Ai-Ai got sick and tired of all the nagging and asked the lady she thought was her real mom for the real score.

Her aunt’s admission that she was adopted as a baby hit Ai-Ai like a lightning bolt. That’s why she advises adoptive parents to tell the child the truth as soon as he understands. This way, the child will not be as shellshocked as Ai-Ai was when the truth hit her hard.

At first, Ai-Ai admits she can’t call her real mom, “Nanay.” It was always, “Kumain na po kayo” or something like that. Young as she was, Ai-Ai couldn’t understand why her mom had to give her away for adoption. Her real mom was crying, but Ai-Ai still couldn’t fathom why she couldn’t buy milk for her sixth child.

But blood is still thicker than water. When she grew up, Ai-Ai finally understood that her mom had to do it because she gave her word to her spinster sister-in-law. Ai-Ai’s mom promised the childless lady that should the baby in her womb turn out to be a girl, she (the aunt) can adopt the child.

Having been deprived as a child, Ai-Ai wants to make up for those lean days by giving her family whatever they need and want. She gives a monthly allowance, not just for her mom and siblings but for her aunt.

The generosity extends beyond her family. Ai-Ai wants it hush-hush. But other people are talking about how she helps send priests to school.

“I have an ATM up there,” her eyes look heavenward.

Her ATM up there has been oh-so-generous so far.

Ai-Ai has proven again that she is to showbiz royalty born when her concert, Akin ang Tronong ’To, packed them in at Araneta Coliseum.

She’s not about to take it easy, though. Ai-Ai wants to enter the independent film scene next year by starring in an indie.

“I want star in a serious role this time,” she explains.

Ai-Ai knows that like indies, animation, offers financial challenges, but she’s above that now. Ai-Ai can already try things that don’t exactly bring box-office glory. But the psychic rewards outweigh the money concerns. So she wants to try animation as well.

2011 is also special for Ai-Ai since she will hold a big birthday concert on Nov.11, or 11-11-11 at Araneta Coliseum. To her, no number combination can be luckier

Speaking of 2011, is there anything Her Comic Highness wants to change about herself to make the year even brighter?

“Probably my being that generous,” she replies after thinking hard.

But then, God will provide, she quickly adds.

So Ai-Ai will continue to turn the wheel of generosity for others. In so doing, she can’t help but turn it for herself as well.

Kris and James back in each other's arms

Yes, Kris Aquino and her estranged husband James Yap are lovey-dovey again, but it’s only for a scene in Dalaw, Kris’ latest movie (for the 2010 Metro Filmfest) which she’s co-producing with Star Cinema.

James is acting as the double of Diether Ocampo who couldn‘t make it to the shoot because he flew in late from Australia last night.

It was easy to convince James to do the scene, according to Kris.

“It’s because we’re okay already,” explained Kris. “We are both resigned to the fact that our marriage didn’t work. We’re better off as friends, mas nagkakaintindihan kami. James accepted the offer right away.

According to earlier reports, Kris and James would be doing a love scene, with James naked from the waist up, shot from the back. Kris was being teased that she and James might continue the scene long after the shoot was done.

Laughing, Kris said, “I won’t say what that love scene is. Basta, surprise!”

James was expected to report to the set after an afternoon game. Their sons Joshua and Baby James were expected to watch the shoot.

Incidentally, Kris has nipped in the bud the “weird” report about her and Ted Failon, a widower. It started when Ted interviewed Kris on TV Patrol the other day about her case with James. As a side comment, Kris plugged Dalaw and invited Ted to the premiere and perhaps sit beside her and her Kuya Noy, reminding Ted about a possible dinner date, and adding, “Malay mo, baka maging brother-in-law mo siya.”

Still laughing after the gossip-hungry public on a fun ride, Kris texted Funfare, “Mahal ko ang mga Waray. My top three are you (That’s me! Hehehe! — RFL), Boy (Abunda) and Ted.”

Sharon Cuneta vs Lea Salonga?

“That’s really weird. I really don’t know how that came up. I came off the stage from Ai Ai’s concert, I saw her and we hugged each other,” paglilinaw ni Lea tungkol sa isyu, na talagang nagalit nu’ng lumabas ang ganitong balita.

“It’s totally untrue. There is no issue between me and Mega.”

Kung ‘yung ibang tao nga raw na hindi niya gaanong kilala binabati niya, what more pa si Sharon na kaibigan niya.

“I’m even getting tweets from total strangers, and I’m like, What the heck, paano naman ako nasangkot dito?”

Samantala, isa si Lea sa celebrity judges para sa Avon Voices, ang global on-line singing talent search for women and songwriting competition for men and women. Avon will mark its 125th anniversary sa 2011.

Makakasama ng Pinay international artist bilang judges sina Fergie ng Black Eyed Peas; Grammy award-winner and legendary songwriter Diane Warren; Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Natasha Bedingfield; Australian Artist of the Decade Delta Goodrem; Brazilian pop star Ivete Sangalo at Russian sensation Valeriya.

Dolphy and Zsa-Zsa's youngest daughter to enter showbiz too

“Walang isyu diyan. I can put up my own company.

Unlike their youngest daughter Zia, na mahilig kumanta.

Posibleng magkasama raw sina Zia at Karylle sa isang show.

“Yeah! It’s a great opportunity for Kim also siyempre si Piolo Pascual ‘yun eh.

“She’s been with Gerald for the longest time and I even made paalam kay Ge and ako naman I just love to be working with different people and Kim is one talented young actress. It’s gonna be a privilege for me to work with her and alam kong magaling siya at alam kong mag-e-enjoy kaming magtrabaho,” kuwento naman ni Piolo.

Nasa London kami, nasa eroplano kami noon. Siyempre out of respect gagawin talaga ng isang lalaki ‘yun. I respect him for that,” nakangiting pagtatapos naman ni Gerald.

2 more Kapamilya turning Kapatid soon?

A few days ago, Funfare published a blind item about two Kapamilya stars who are contemplating on turning Kapatid as soon as their contracts expire. They are both, uhm, male. I didn’t give a clue. I simply said it’s a MESS!

Don’t look now but two other Kapamilya are doing the same — if the negotiations turn out okay.

The first, (a singer-actress) is, according to the Funfare DPA, “sure to quit ABS-CBN and sign up with TV5.” That’s what the company managing her wants. The other Kapamilya (an actor) is being wooed by TV5, giving him offers and options he may not be able to refuse…for long? Clues? Ask the Presidential Security Guards of the Philippines!

Should ABS-CBN management do a loyalty check? No need. All the network has to do is give the four stars a good reason to stay.

Willie uses elderly for his show

Angelica Panganiban and her father meet in US

According to her, kulang ang limang araw na magkasama sila ng kanyang tatay.

Sarah Geronimo to transfer to TV5?

Willie Revillame revealed last Friday in his controversial program on TV5 “Willing Willie” that the Popstar Princess Sarah Geronimo, one of ABS-CBN’s biggest stars, is transferring to the Kapatid Network.

Just September of this year, Sarah Geronimo signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN shattering rumors that she will transferring to GMA-7.

Immediately after that, Sarah starred in her new TV project on ABS-CBN, the kantaserye “1DOL” which only lasted for 35 episodes due to poor rating. Some felt really bad when people blamed her for the cancellation of kantaserye. But despite that, she is reportedly being offered a movie opposite Gerald Anderson. But Sarah said she still doesn’t know whether it will push through or not.

But in last Friday’s airing of “Willing Willie”, Willie Revillame, who is now in partnership with Viva’s Vic del Rosario, Sarah’s manager, announces with conviction that Sarah will soon transfer to the Kapatid network and will host a reality talent contest titled “Born to be a Star”.

Kuya Kim begins new adventures

When Kuya Kim Atienza had his recent heart procedure, he decided to share a very important part of his life with the public by showing it in his program Matanglawin on ABS-CBN.

In last Sunday’s episode, viewers saw Kuya Kim writhe in pain when a needle was inserted into the outer layer of his skin to check for allergies. He was then placed on anesthesia so the doctor could insert an eight-inch catheter to his groin area and put a device.

Kim said he was presented with three possible scenarios by his surgical team before the operation, and that an open heart surgeon was on standby in case his procedure fails.

Fortunately, the latter didn’t have much to do as the procedure went well.

“God is so good! The best case scenario prevailed and I was again in perfect health just a few days after my procedure,” he said. “I’m physically 99 percent back. Kuya Kim 2.0 is just as energetic, triviatic and alive.”

It was just a few months back when people were stunned by the news that the Kuya Kim suffered a stroke due to over fatigue.

“I love this job so much, I could kill myself doing it,” he said. “I was working four weeks straight going out of town on weekends for Matanglawin the month I had a stroke.”

Still, his condition didn’t keep him from connecting to the outside world. While Kuya Kim was temporarily out of the TV screens, he was all present in the cyber world engaging his followers and the online community.

He spent six days at the Makati Medical Center’s ICU while being connected to all the machines and no television. He read four books and developed 30,000 followers on the micro-blogging site Twitter in just a week.

“Twitter is my post-stroke therapy,” he said. “The tweets kept my mind constantly working. This is the reason why I answer all the trivia questions tweeted by followers. Tweeting all my trivia reconnects all my brain neurons affected by my stroke. It’s the perfect therapy and better than the puzzles and mind games that were recommended to me.”

Kim is now back in TV Patrol and the noontime talent-variety show Showtime. Today, he returns to an all-new and hi-tech Matanglawin with PBB Teens finalist Ryan Bang joining him in sharing knowledge and information in fun and stimulating ways.

Kuya Kim recently won at the recent Star Awards for TV as the Best Educational Program Host for Matanglawin, which also won as Best Educational Program.

Prior to his successful career on television as a weatherman, broadcaster and TV host, Kim was serving as a councilor in Manila. But instead of following in the footsteps of his father and former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, Kim decided to pursue a career in broadcasting.

“I would have suffered a stroke earlier if I was in politics,” he said laughingly. “I love what I do here. I was made for TV, which keeps me alive and wanting to live.”

Given a chance, he would love to have a talk show. He said, “I want to be like a funny male Oprah Winfrey bringing out the best in people in a show that will make people cry, laugh, dance, sing and even pray.”

When Kim was recently honored in an awards ceremony for ABS-CBN employees, he told the audience that the best decision in his life was turning back on politics and joining ABS-CBN.

“The hardest thing I ever did was to tell my dad, ‘Ayaw kitang palitan. Gusto ko palitan si Ernie Baron,’” he said after receiving the award that recognized him for achieving his icon status not because of his family name but rather for his passion for work.

Reinventing himself from being a politician to a weatherman wasn’t easy in the beginning because people were skeptical that he was on TV to get elected.

But now, the public knows that their favorite trivia king and champion of animals and environment really loves TV.

“My dad has always been supportive of my TV career. He now introduces himself in public as the ‘tatay ni Kuya Kim,’” he said. “I am happy that my public allows me to be myself while handing out my trivia, kahit pakanta, pasayaw o lumalangoy sa Pasig. They accept my trivia 100 percent. I love them.”

And through the new media, Kim has found an avenue to engage the public just like the other multimedia journalists at ABS-CBN. Those on Twitter could attest to Kuya Kim’s accessibility as he readily takes questions and provides answers to questions posed by his followers.

“I genuinely feel for my supporters. Twitter gives me positive reinforcement. It connects me to my public and as is said, sharpens my mind post stroke. Twitter can be so powerful, just like media. I can inspire, inform and even change lives by example.”

With his second chance at life, he thinks God has a deeper mission for him to fulfill in media.

“I am waiting for His signs,” he said.

Sharon and Aga now okay-- Ai-Ai

“In any relationship naman, may tampuhan, eh. Friends, mag-asawa, mag-boyfriend, magkaibigan, ganu’n talaga,” pahayag niya sa presscon ng Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ’To.
